I make stuff
1 Attachment(s)
Decided to start a little overworld so I could take my mind of other things and I didn't feel like making graphics.
This time though I decided I actually wanted to finish it. My older overworlds I had absolutely no expectations and I never planned to actually finish them, but I liked designing the world. So now I figured I'd make a small one I could realistically finish. |
Looking good so far :D
|
Wow! I can't wait to see the end result, keep up the good work Dusty!
|
You make good stuff
|
Great stuff so far. I'm glad you're utilizing every part of the map so far. Too often I see extravagantly detailed cliffing and shorelines that have no purpose gameplay-wise, thus the player can't even get close enough to see them, or they are generally ignored.
Already I can see your ideas through your leveling. |
That's some pretty neat stuff.
|
I like it a lot, smashing work on the cliffs - nicely done!
Lovely work on the customs too +rep |

How much work did you put into the custom tile set and would you be willing to post it?
As for the map, it looks good. I am happy to see that you've put some planning into the map, I can already see areas where a player would have to revisit after obtaining a certain time to access alternate areas. Would love to see more. |

And yes, there is going to be a purpose to the map, and a gameplay flow, even though it's not meant to actually be played. It's always good to approach a map like this imo, even if it will never be played as it's good practice for world design. |

An update before bed.
|
Looking supersweet :)
|
A lot of grass cliff tiles on dirt.
|
top half, esp top left - love it
bottom half, not feeling it yet. we'll see how it turns out |
I like your work, interesting tho to see your perspective in relation to how cliff's look at different viewing angles? I'm assuming exactly top-down?

Didn't get too much done today.
|
I like the work I just don't care for the iClassic style of structuring, I was hoping to see this end up a little more unique and something we haven't seen before.
|
iClassic style of structuring? O.o
|
The huge cliffs that surround the top portion is near exact to the cliffing on iClassic.
Actually, almost all the cliffing is comparable to iClassic. |

I will log on iClassic sometime today and take screenshots to compare the overworlds because I don't know how I can explain it in words.
|
I like it. I dont know if its just me, but the town looks very closed in. Good job though.

Before I post my examples I want to make it clear that I'm not trying to say that the leveling is the same and/or copied in any way. I'm just trying to show how it has the same tiling strategies that we see on iClassic, not that it's a bad thing.. I just had higher expectations for your gmap.
I lettered 3 area's on your gmap image; A,B,C. and they will go accordingly to each one of my screenshots I took on iClassic. |
Love the cliffwork, though I'm not such a huge fan of the entire bottom right sector. It's coming along very nice, Dusty, good work. :)

Tbh it just looks like a more old-fashioned way of cliffing. A bunch of classic servers used to feature those kinds of cliffs. Babylon did, Classic did, I think Delteria did too. |

Not much to show for tonight because I ended up redoing an entire portion of cliff-work that I wasn't happy with. Then I ended up making some custom graphics.
|
looks nice ^^
|
Those cliffs are nice!

You are examining the tiles which I thought I made clear not to do. It's solely about the strategic structuring and placement that is way too familiar with this age of development.

I am really enjoying this WIP.
Nice cliffing too, I am eager to see how this turns out. Keep up the good work! |
