Backups from recent downtime
 

Apparently a few DB NPCs have been blasted into oblivion with the recent server down time, and examining the npcs/ folder to try to find them yields to awful results

this issue has presented itself with DB NPCs and Classes and I'm extremely uneasy at the idea of other important scripts being missing without my being aware since I'd have to individually check everything.

I really hope this can be addressed

Well apparently a lot of cars on Era disappeared after the last crash. Maybe they were unhappy with their owners.

Hey, so after the today's downtime a fewmore DB NPCs, including two very important ones, were deleted from UN. This is a pretty big problem.

Can you clarify "deleted"? Are the NPCs still there or completely gone?

One of our NPCs lost its entire script (flags and such are still there), for the second time—happened as soon as the server came back according to our version control logs.

Completely gone. Last time we had a one NPC completely delete script like you said (flags still there), but this time I can count two NPCs (for sure, probably more) that just are completely gone.

in the case of the first thing I posted the NPC was no longer accessible in the DB NPC list or accessible by script.

The list of flags I pulled came directly from the filebrowser entry for the NPC I found missing, and this seems to be the case for most of what's happened on UN so far.

This isn't a good scenario at all since there's a big number of scripts I or Starfire2001 might not have even noticed gone that could be significantly important, and when Stefan logged on to UN after the downtime this morning and I indicated the at least one missing NPC I saw, he left shortly after

Well bump. Just found out the control NPC that allowed for UN radio is gone. Pretty hard to recreate. :/

Why aren't you guys doing your own backups? It's pretty inexcusable for Graal to have such terrible and inaccessible backups, but as a server staff member, I'd be more interested in protecting my work than in pointing blame.

Era has a Mercurial repo of every change to scripts for the past 4 months. We've found it to be incredibly useful not just in the case of errors but also in case we need to need to look at an old script.
