GC Studio Events
 

As some may be aware, the new GC Studios were made public a couple of weeks ago, its new location being the level above level14/bank & burger refuge. The first studio event, Drunken Stupor/Make Your Luck has also now been made public.

While it is new and improved, and can be publicly hosted by any player likewise to the past, the new controls have been made in such a way that will allow them to be easily applied to most, if not all other single player events in future.



As said previously, I hope to publish specific plans regarding events, however I hoped to do so on a separate Classic specific forum, which is now just being delayed by a small technical hitch.

Atleast the location is at a better spot.

Also:

I don't like the location of the studios, I would prefer a larger castle type level north of the city. The outside is very misleading and does not fit.

As for your progress, I am very happy. I remember a time when there wasn't GCs and all events were player hosted. Allowing players to host gets back to Classic's roots.

If this thread were to be in jeopardy due to this rule, I wouldn't know whether to laugh or cry. Promoting the real life use of alcohol via conversation or photographic flaunting is a lot different to promoting harmless consumption of a (cartoon style) pixel beverage in a game, towards purposes of fun.

I don't think a large castle type building would fit along side the Graal City Castle within the current map, and we do not plan to expand the map for a while yet, which would also not be towards the north.

Well the building does not really match the other buildings and looks extremely out of place. It's almost UN styled.

It never did, and was always supposed to stand out as something different. Just because the outside is not a traditional simplistic level does not mean it is a UN style level. If you mean this on the basis of it not being medieval, Classic is not strictly medieval.

This did stand out as something different at the time of the Studios first incarnation, but not after all these years of this type of tiling being adopted as the common style across almost all of Graal. I recall Night saying he wanted to redo the studios.

It certainly looks better than the old image, but I was mainly referring to the outside: the level just doesn't seem right to me. It may have something to do with the hedges.

I'm not sure how hedges could be interpreted as being UN style above a metallic/stone structure, but the reason they're used is actually a testament to what was in this location throughout the post NPC-Server years:

No, MattKan is absolutely right on this. It is one thing to try and make something stand out, it is another thing to make something that clashes. This is what I meant in my previous post. The GC studios just doesn't look like it should be there. Basically the GC studio exterior is equivalent to a hot pink and you're trying to put it on a painting of green rolling hills and saying it is an improvement.

Since you're all for modern design here is my suggestions. I always pictured something like this to resemble a movie set within a large warehouse. Maybe a reception area leading into a large area with moveable walls that pieced differently based on the event (like a movie set), or separate rooms for each individual event (basically like the interior is now). The exterior would be large and since it is supposed to be huge attraction it would be treated as such. Maybe it would resemble a large theater with the studios on a big sign, maybe even different posters with the event in progress on them. If I were to have simple text, I would have it in stationary black lettering on a white background like you see at the theaters. I would have a GAT do this though and not have it scripted because the results are usually ugly. Most of all, I would try to stick with the pallet in use. Personally I would have browns or blue with red accents for the roof.

It can eventually be improved to look both more unique and fitting, right now the exterior is essentially the same as it always was, except with a perimeter of hedge to allow it to blend with grass, and also retain that little bit of familiarity due to Tony Montana's house being there previously. Yes it is far from ideal, but I don't see it as a huge clash in the way that is being made out, if anything the Studios are meant to be something of a quirk.
I would also place more importance on the location of the building over the size of it.

I don't see the difference.. I believe if every game used this comment as their own many games would allow alcohol, cigarettes, drugs, and sex..

You'd be amazed with how much the media can influence people lol..

Especially making a game out of something that isn't necessarily good.


I think a better argument would be that the graphics were used in the past and thought of okay, they should be okay now "then leave it at that". Since it really isn't a good thing. o.o

Or better yet, have the liquid in the cup unnamed, which would fix everything..

I think you have to consider whether the in game visual is comparable to the real life equivalent.

Sexual intercourse is in general morally wrong for a young child to witness in real life, so regardless of whether the first person character of a game is invoking such action, it's obvious that a young child should not be witnessing that.

In terms of drinking a beer or smoking a cigarette all that's happening in game is that you're seeing an avatar consume them. Is it wrong for a child to merely see another person in real life drink alcohol or smoke?

According to this forum yes, because pictures that include alcohol/smoking tend to be deleted for a very stupid reason.

The no-alcohol rule has been ignored by many servers on Graal, and mostly just applies to the forums these days. Just like the no-profanity rule, it kind of assumes that Graal's audience is unable to deal with the subject in a mature manner.

Instead of having a rule against it, there should be a disclaimer instead which states that Linux Cyberjoueurs does not personally support these things, even though their users might.

Well, that's kind of a big assumption. Especially considering the age required for players to join is 13. We don't have any actual numbers that prove the majority of Graal players are adults, even though I personally agree with you there.

As a safeguard, Graal ought to do what most other MMOs do and just use the phrase 'Game Experience May Change During Online Play' in their EULA. It's a very useful clause that effectively distances a company from any negative content presented in their game.

And then if you take into account the desire to have what they are told they cannot have... Yes..

I do believe people who don't have others drinking or smoking around them are less likely to participate lol.. Unless of course they see it in the media, and I'm not saying they won't see it in stores, but I don't think they would have the desire to want it if it is seen in a store.

But I also believe sex would be less of a problem if parents were more open about it, and it started younger while the parents are more knowledgeable of the happenings.. Since it would be better for one to have sex in a place that is safe and known, than out somewhere random, or in a car lol.. Not saying the parents should watch them or anything...

Kind of like drinking, if kids started around 18, they would most likely be around their parents and less crazy with it while they ARE out on their own.. Since they have already experienced it..

So what about Graal having swords and guns?
If showing cartoon beers being consumed influences children to try it, I can only imagine what having a game that revolves around killing people with a sword or gun might do!

I believe if some kind of message was being conveyed to people under the legal drinking age on graal it'd be that beer is bad for you :D

unless they see it in the media...drinking and smoking is in tons of TV shows and movies, not even rated MA or R TV/movies. seeing someone drink a beer and have a good time in a tv program/movie will be more influencial than seeing a character in a game (graal) drink a beer and have no effect on the character.

In addition to Drunken Stupor, Sumo Island is now released, and likewise is publicly hostable by players.

The studios warp room contains 2 slashable plus/minus buttons to alternate the subsequent event level, eventually there can be a scrollable GUI to accompany these once they become time consuming. The warp is automatically set to the relevant level whenever a GC begins summoning for a studio event.

The important progress here and with Drunken Stupor wasn't so much about making events themself, but preparing the foundation resources to be re-used among all of the events.
Notable resources accompanying Sumo include:

• The ability for the host to set points to or warp out players via middle click GUI.
• The top 3 point earners being displayed on the screen, in addition to your own tally.
• A GUI containing the ability for the host to enable/disable health loss (PK mode) and weapon usage, both of these have a bearing on HP + HUD display. Also included is the ability for the host to heal or strip guild tags among all players.
• A bottom right display options button for disabling nicknames/HUD, similarly to within Team Events.
• A start/stop button for the host, which invokes an automatic countdown.
• Screen message displaying eliminations, plus eliminators where applicable.

Graal doesn't use much blood from what I've seen.. Nor do I think people carry swords as often as Guns in real life lol.. As for guns, that is another story. Era could easily put blood upon death.. I don't know, I guess I see more games with swords and guns than I do drinking.

Drunk.gani back in 2005 was definitely a pretty cool effect in my opinion.

I suppose it depends who it is okay for. Honestly, at least in the state of Maryland, kids can drink with their parents before the age of 18 since it is legal in religious and parent supervision situations. Do I think it is okay? I couldn't care less what others do, honestly kids going out getting drunk, raped, receiving an std or sti has nothing to do with me. However it may affect my kids, I think the less people in the world is better. Our ecological footprint is out of line. :[

But do I think kids going out, drinking in places they don't know, around people they don't know, who are willing to take advantage of them, or them going out and doing things stupid and unsupervised is alright opposed to a legal guardian keeping an eye on them is better... No I do not.

Honestly, coming in here, I wasn't in here to debate, only state that yes it is an influence, but don't get me wrong, I will debate. However, I could care less if Thor has anything about alcohol on his server.

I use to think Graal was an RPG like game, and the yellow glass mugs had Ale. Something used in games, and what I believe is not served anymore.. Or I haven't heard of anyone drinking Ales..

I forgot to mention, I collect swords and knives, probably because of video games.
I, as well as someone else, was almost kicked out of the school for bringing in military clothing and I had a knife, he had bullets and whatever.
Of course I am the only one to get in trouble for it since I was putting the knife away since I didn't believe it would be be good to have with me.

Since I'm not trying to take spotlight from your post,

I love Sumo, one of my favorite events in Graal aside from Gravity Race and Shaded Legends Hold The Briefcase. ^.^;;

I guess we should ban all video games, tv shows and stuffs like that to protect stupid people from doing stupid things :P

I think we should just drop nukes on every so many square miles of the earth, if we all die then we surely won't be doing anything stupid any longer.
Or perhaps we should ban reproduction, it would accomplish the same result and be a more cost-effective solution, just spread over a hundred years or so.

Joking aside, the real issue at hand is that we live in a blame-pointing society, where some people aren't taking responsibility for their own or their children's actions, or some potentially dangerous or vulnerable people aren't being given the help they need.

Until I stole a 2'x1' box of Digimon cards "opening and taking packs out and taking them out in the store bathroom at a store, that I lost a LOT of pokemon cards.. Back in the day.. That was a pretty good deterrent lol..

However, I'm not sure that stopped me, I think I just decided there were too many cameras, and it was pointless to do. I never stole from people, but doing it from stores that sell things at a higher price isn't very moral either. :/

Another Studio level has been added for publicly hostable spar tournaments.
GC spars themself work pretty much the same as the normal spar within Supernick's minus the queue, normal exit & entry.

The main feature would be the addition of a tournament generator, which can support tournaments of any size for any event, can be viewed by players and modified by the host:

Just played the sumo event, was pretty fun :)

Does it go by accounts, team names, or names? What happens if someone has a long name o.O;;

It generates a tournament for a provided array of any name, so it could be a players account, team, guild, whatever.

The next round display would just be offset by the necessary length. The GUI is within a scroll but this is only really necessary should the tournament somehow be really big.
