FPS Lag

Anyone know how to fix this? I'm using v6. (v5 lags even more)
Will give any information needed.

I have Windows 7 home premium
Processor: AMD Athlon X2 Dual-Core QL-65 (2 CPUs), ~2.1GHz
Memory: 4096MB RAM
Name: ATI Radeon HD 3200 Graphics
Manufacturer: ATI Technologies Inc.
Chip Type: ATI display adapter (0x9612)
Driver Verision: 8.872.0.0

Here's some things you can do:

1. Try running V6 in Open GL Mode.
Go into your Graal folder and Send-to Desktop Graal6.exe to create a shortcut.

In the properties of the shortcut put -opengl at the end of the shortcut's target.

Optional: Drag the shortcut back into your Graal folder and pin the shortcut to your Task Bar.

2. Try Disabling Aero
3. Update your Video Drivers

I can't say I know how to fix it, but usually I just set my screen res in-game to about 800x700 or what ever.

I think it might be the Anthlon processor, I have pretty much the same specs as you do or close to it and I have had terrible fps lag since it came out of the box. I have tried everything but good luck.

Except that computer is perfectly capable. So no, just buying a new computer should not be a solution O.o

jkldogg 11-01-2011 05:00 AM

Tried the -opengl thing, didn't fix the lag. Thanks for the tip though. Disabling Aero slightly helped, and updating my amd drivers had no effect.

Another thing you can try is setting Graal.exe's processor affinity to one cpu.

How-to:
Ctrl+Alt+Del -> Start Task Manager OR Start -> type taskmgr and press enter.
Click the Processes Tab
Right-click Graal6.exe
Set Affinity
Uncheck and then check a single CPU.

If that doesn't work do this for me.

Download and Run HijackThis: http://www.trendmicro.com/ftp/produc...HijackThis.exe

Click System scan and save a logfile.
Save the log file to your desktop and attach it here for us so we can see what kind of programs you have running in start-up.

First off, my Graal v6 is simply named Graal.exe, not Graal6.exe anymore. This changed a few months ago in an update, not sure if that makes a difference. Setting Graal.exe to one affinity didn't help.

Hijack attached.

Try uninstalling BitDefender and see if your performance improves.

Unkownsoldier 11-01-2011 11:01 PM

I find that the lag is caused by text rendering, try putting your font size to zero. If the lag is gone then its probably a text rendering problem as well, in which case there is really no solution that is openly out there.

Graal used to have alternative font rendering options, but that is no longer the case.

Also, make sure your graphic drivers are up to date. It should be fairly easy to find the driver you need if you go to the ATI site.

Also, try loading the GraalEditor and playing in that, does it lag for you there?

jkldogg 11-03-2011 08:56 AM

Really don't want to uninstall my antivirus....how does that effect fps lag? I set the font size to zero, still lagged. GraalEditor doesn't lag at all, but did you want me to load a certain level? I only played on a plain grass level.

I've seen BitDefender and McAfee drastically slow down computers before.

If you don't want to uninstall it at least try disabling it completely if possible.

Can you login somewhere with v6 and get a /clientstats of 10 seconds or so?

Crono 11-11-2011 03:12 PM

another interesting point is when my cpu (intel q9450) is running at stock speeds (2.6ghz) i'll get the infamous stuttering problem on graal but when it's running at 3.4ghz it runs just fine.

bloodykiller 11-11-2011 07:28 PM

I don't understand what you're trying to say, but i said "/clientstats" on Era and nothing happened. Please rephrase your question.

Anyone know what stefan meant....?

1.) Reduce nickname size to atleast 5-10
2.) Play in fullscreen mode
3.) Close all background applications running
4.) Reduce chat size to whatever is smallest but yet still visible (duh)
5.) Restart Graal every 45mins-60mins

I do these 5 things and it raised by FPS from an average of 16 or so to 20. Unless 02901581285 bullets are flying or there are a crap ton of players in the room.

With his specs he shouldn't have a problem. The underlying problem should be resolved.

TheJames 11-14-2011 06:21 AM

I'm running the same specs brospeh and Graal still lags. I have my laptop bored the hell out with a I3 processor, 4gigs of ram, and it still lags to hell and back.

TheJames 11-14-2011 06:22 AM

And I just reformatted..Running Windows 7.. I mean honestly Graal has such poor quality of graphics it shouldn't take more then a pentium 4 to run it?

DustyPorViva 11-14-2011 06:36 AM

Well the problem is laptops tend to have very crappy video cards(integrated instead of dedicated) which could be the problem, but I imagine that Graal should still be able to run smoothly on any modern laptop without problems, integrated video or not.

Supaman771 11-14-2011 05:47 PM

Graal runs better on my ****ty labtop or even Chris's 2G iPhone than on my desktop which has better specs than JKLs.

Everyone says buy a new cpu, or upgrade past windows vista but I see no reason to. When in doubt I just shrink my screen when I'm in events or at unstick.

JKL, have you tried using something like Game Booster or Advance System Care's "Turbo Boost" it helps sometimes get rid of all the bloatware processes and services that don't need to always be running. If those don't you should message me on aim and I can take a look further into it your computer might just in general be bogged down even with those... specs... you should still be able to run Graal.

This option was only added to the F3 options window within the very latest beta client, so yes for a long while this was necessary.

That's nice.

*Reaches in pocket, pulls something out.*
*Hands ffcmike a cookie.*

OpenGL works great for me though anyway my graphics card seems to support it better in the first place for everything so I'm glad there is an option there now my Graal even with tons of applications running I'm hitting 24 FPS and it doesn't drop no matter what I'm doing, least I only play it on my laptop I don't know about my desktop, and the laptop is freaking ancient as it is I got it the day after Vista released if that tells you anything mine isn't much better than JKL's.

So I mean... I don't know why he has problems.
