Preview: Castle Quest Preparation
This video shows a few baddies and a cannon NPC among other small resources, which will be part of the upcoming Castle Quest.
For those wondering why it looks like a mine this is because the quest begins as a tunnel that leads beneath the Castle. As usual this is entirely for demonstration purposes, the contents are subject to change. There is still quite a lot of work to do towards the meat and bones of the quest so a release should not be expected for a while yet. |
looks neat, really should find a new outfit for the videos though. ;)

New baddies look neat, as does the new tiles. Looking forward to that next release.
|
Neato!
|
Smooth pushing
|
One thing it needs is a moving feet animation for pulling. I don't know how much of a hassle this would be without the body images for it though.

Here is a preview of the new mine cart system primarily intended for use within the Castle Quest:

All of my love. Are you going to have a thrilling minecart ride where you have to jump over obstacles, change to the correct track, and maybe have baddies come after you? Because that would be awesome. Stefan and Unixmad should really be paying you to make such quality work
|
Very cool system!

I wasn't really sure if I wanted to add the whole "press key to decelerate before hitting a corner, or fly off", I think that would have been more of an inconvenience than a challenge. On the other hand sword and other weapons are supported, for instance we could also have arrow firing from the cart. |
You can only figure out how to slash in one direction, yet you can manage to hop that 800lb mine cart off the tracks and land it back down flawlessly.
So Freaking Qt. |
Classic always had cool adventure segments that took you from point A to point B, really setting itself apart from Zelda and definitely reminiscent of Super Mario RPG.
I remember when you beat the quest at the Ninji fort you would go on a barrel ride. and then there was another barrel ride that took you to Avalon (right?). and you ride in the canon to get to the place where you got the ratform |

The pirate canon to Nimda is part of the storyline and only happens once. You would need to go there by boat or spaceship after that. Can use a jet ski (horse on water) or swim after you get Zorbi Ring, too. |
Yes. The best version of Graal Castle featured all of the above, plus you would find many players riding around on jet skis, especially in the western seas between the mainland and Nimda. The only reason I used to take the boat around is to enjoy the fishing while getting where I wanted to go.
You also would find lots of NPCs which were simply a graphic like a pizza or a pie or a beer, that were scripted in the simplest way in gscript1 to allow the player to pick up, throw, and hide under them like a bush. I would like to see that return. One of the best adventure games ever made. |

The boat was the best fishing spot!

either way looks great! The whole decelerate part could be good if used the right way, but I don't see a need.
unless you fall off the side into some sort of bottom level where you have to walk back and restart. |

Could be a draisine since you have to control the speed of one yourself.
|
Lots of progress made, yet still a lot more to do, definitely the biggest quest project I've attempted.
So here's another small teaser: |
