The water is horrendous

So I logged on Era today while waiting for the next heat in ECSC and I saw some water at the unstick and thought it looked pretty nice (picture 1) so I decided to visit the beach and my eyes threw up on themselves (picture 2). The shallow water-> water is so square. This should be fixed, do it.

Also there is a tile error on the right of the puddle at unstick.

Using dithering as a water transition... smooth.

Supaman771 08-25-2011 09:34 PM

Pretty sure it's always been like that, just not as noticeable because before all 3 shades of water were pretty much the same... now it has the really bright seafoam+sand shallow into a totally different color. And as dusty said the transitions could be worked on.

But it's pretty much just how the tiles are laid, I worked with them a bit on Dev and it looks better if u don't make a straight line across 20 tiles...

Disgusting

Nope.

In their defense it will be hard to pull off decent looking transitions. They're using a TYPE1 tileset and it only has... what, 20 or so tiles for water? That doesn't leave a lot of room for the water tiles themselves AND a smooth transition. The dithering is unacceptable, but they're not going to be able to pull off a smooth transition that the clear water is implying it should have.

I redid like half of the beach when I was a LAT on Era and fixed a lot of the tile errors which are apparent in those levels. Throw me a forum PM if you guys want it and I'll go look through my portable hard drives and see if I still have it not going to go through like 9tb worth of files otherwise.

Uh yeah? The tile placement.. beach > swamp > water transitions..
They haven't changed, however the tiles themselves have.

Well we sort of have a new gmap (well same gmap but super edited), so not sure if your beaches are still useful (not sure how longs its been since you got a backup), but i always welcome a chance to fix errors
