If there is something else that should be added just tell me.

IMO you shouldn't buy a server until you have solid plans, not just an idea.

Your checklist left out the essential parts of creating a server, which is because im assuming you have never been one. Zodiac had none of those 3 in the beginning. The Jerret you know was not nearly as talented as he is now. While a prepared person would have the items on your list, it takes more than that. It takes dedication. Nearly every private server owner has experienced rebuilding numerous times, especially after those abusing staff erase the server's content. Or the fact that you are hiring people to a private server with nearly no chance. Being a talented Dev will not make your server more likely to succeed (in fact i'd argue it does the opposite). Nearly all of the devs here have started their own server at some point and failed.

While I understand where you come from, everything you listed is on my list.

-Dedication, meaning you devote your time and money into your server to see it succeed. Listed above. Includes failures as well, "some projects can take 3 years" etc.

-Abusive staff, "can you trust them with your content". Listed above.

I agree with the developmental part though, just because you are a good developer doesn't mean you can make a good server. Yet you are still competing for players if your server succeeds in becoming classic, so you do need some strong developmental background/foundation. Also this list isn't for those who are just starting to develop and learn how to do things, its for those that want to make an actual functioning server. Just for preparation purposes.

You forgot "does your mother say you are special?".

I'd say the key checkbox for having a successful server is "Could you finish your server entirely by yourself with no help at all?"

It better be checked, because that much willpower and skill is required, even with staff.

Having staff means raising server quality; it rarely means raising chances of finishing the server.

build a complete server before you buy hosting for it $___$

Yes, I have never developed a server. But when has that ever been a requirement for knowing how things work. Look at sports, there are a ton of coaches in college and professional football/basketball etc. that have never played the game at that level. Yet they understand the game. Just like I feel I understand what it takes to make a successful server.

This is very true, since its typically your project you can't expect a high level of interest or development from anyone other than yourself.

I don't think people even play servers that contain good content anymore, really. (Player servers that is)

Also, bumping an old post! uh oh
