Basically depends on your definition of "dead", in-which case if it is defined by playercount alone while you could argue UN is slowly dieing, it is some way off being dead.

I wouldn't say you can define dead entirely through playercount though, dead would imply that there's absolutely no chance of coming back to life, and as has been seen many times playercount does fluctuate and server playercounts do undergo mini revivals.

Playercount is also highly influenced through external factors such as subscription prices, advertisement and accessibility, all ofwhich are things that may be improved within the not too distant future.
It would be too early to disregard PC Graal as being dead right now.

I will say this though, sometimes Stefan refers to the fact that people often said that Graal would be dead by now 10 years ago, and that in it still being here 10 years later this is proving them wrong.
I think it should be said that this has little to do with the quality of Graal as a game and how well it has been ran, but more to do with the countless players and developers that have stood by it.

I agree with you totally, and maybe I should of said this differently. But I do feel there is wasted amazingly created servers out there, and when I say "dead" I purely mean player count.

Basically, I disagree.

ThomV 07-26-2011 10:36 PM

Technically it's not dead.

Moreso suffocated to near-death, the spirit it once had is long-dead. It lives on as a lifeless zombie. But with a very very small flame inside of it which could possibly ignite life again once proper action is taken. (Which according to popular belief will never happen.)

It may seem very extreme, but that's my view on it.

I don't think people understand. Graal is not dead, there is actually about the same amount of players there were before. Yet, with the current subscription system there are a lot less trials that play routinely. So it seems like the player count has gone down, but the real players, the ones that have life-time classic or buy gold are still around. They are the core, and the trials were just the players that made the game look more popular than it was. Yes, players have left. But new players have come in an taken their spots. Yes there are still a lot of trials that play, but not as many as their once was. - Due to observer mode I guess. So stop saying the game is dead, the game has just gotten rid of a lot of the non-paying players.

And you notice a lot of servers have disappeared, well that's because they failed to produce content. The players from those servers just migrated to other servers or have halted playing until they are fixed. So of course the servers have fluctuation of numbers all of the time, but the core number of players are still the same.

I think players and developers are more prone to consider Graal dead due to their personal loss of interest and hopes rather than a statistical decline.

Observer mode has not existed for quite some time now.

Graal has one of the most dedicated communities I have been a part of. The fact that I can log in today and see people online that I met when I first started playing is a good demonstration of this fact. PC Graal just isn't getting very many new players.

However, I could see this turning around eventually if pricing becomes more reasonable. The interest in an online snes Zelda like game is huge. Graal just isn't capitalizing on this interest as well as it could be.

fowlplay4 07-26-2011 11:31 PM

littlekinky, you're dead.

Come on UN sometime, it's alive and kicking, shamelessly doing its thing.
