I was talking with my friend, and we were wondering if it was possible to make a Dragon Ball like server?

Of course by changing some words and expressions, AND using our own graphics.
The Dragon Balls would be Graal Balls, Saiyans would be Seyans, Nameks would be Nemeks, etc.

Is that still copyright infringement?

Have you ever played the 2D Legend of Zelda, then played GraalOnline?

I wouldn't call it a parody. A parody is kind of a one-time off thing, intentionally poking fun at something. In fact, if it was a parody you could use the names/likelihoods without legal problems. For example, Robot Chicken is a perfect example of parodying something, such as their skits with Mario. However, they couldn't make a show all about Mario and his adventures, which is what this server would be attempting to do. While a show like Drawn Together, which obviously parodies things like Zelda/Pokemon/Betty Boop, still can't use their names because they've built an entire show around it.

Honestly, I'd avoid this premise alltogether unless you want to borrow vague ideas from it. I can't see it hitting it off at all.

Malinko put Dragon Ball stuff on UN and had to remove it. I realize you're saying you want to just make it like it but eventually you'll end up using their sounds, their graphics their names and you'll then end up in trouble with it.

Can't copyright gameplay. There is no hint of Zelda in Graal anymore, other than servers doing their own thing(that they shouldn't be).
