I've been experimenting...

So, as the title suggests, I've been experimenting. I've been making my own tiles , and have had many attempts, but I've finally gotten somewhere I'm almost semi-happy with.

I've made some walls, and some flooring. Not very much, but its the best stuff I've ever done XD

I'm not very good at shading, or anything, really, but, here it is:

So, advice please for shading and stuff. Please only helpful stuff, not all the 'YOU SUCK HAHA!' stuff you usually say.

Oh, and its meant to be kinda Ancient Greek-themed, so thats why theres no glass in the windows. Also, I realize that the door part is mucked up.

I know it sucks XD

I like it (:, If you've ever seen my attempts at graphic design, I'm not very good either and I'm opening up a modern server, sooo. (: Keep practicing, you'll get better. :D

"Walls need shading." I know that, read my first post. And, please explain more. How far do you think it should go down? Should I do some down the side?

"Windows need to be NPCs not part of the actual tileset." I might change that later, or possibly just add some more window tiles, without the frame, so I have both.

Well I thought I would try and give a little example about the "Ancient Greek-themed" and here is what i could come up with.

For come C.C. let your mind go. I'm not fully aware of the task your trying to pull off so I can't really say much. :P For some shading tips, try to use some A.A. like I tried to demonstrate in the line of rocks along the top. Showing edges using a lighter color will also help with the flat walls.

imagine this as a brick.
|------------ | <0
|-----TOP----| <1
|------------ | <2
|----FRONT---| <3
|------------ | <4

0: can be a variation of color, depending on the background
1: top face = light toned
2: edge of the brick , should use a bright shade of ur colors
3: front face of the brick = mid toned
4: bottom line = dark toned

Hope this helps ya mang.

I suck at this, so Ancient Greek will be my inspiration, not my theme. I've also decided I'll get some stuff done now, but better the shading later.

I've fixed some of the wall, and made the windows better:

I've started some outside stuff, too:

I'm going to try to put your advice into the next things I make, and when I edit more detail in later. Awesome advice, though :)

Did you make the stuff you edited into my pic yourself? Because what you've done is freaking. Awesome.

I was hoping you meant experimenting with drugs and then you drew the results.

Now I'm disappointed :[

Anyway, I like the design of it, just needs something more to it. Like what racycle started drawing. Something with shading, texture, color, etc.

Haha yea I did. Here is another simpler example I did to the same corner. I used one of the yellows from the flowers on the wood. Showing the edges will help it "pop". Also I did a isometric design beside it showing the brick idea I tried to explain.

Some more stuff...

Some stuff...

The grass-dirt tiles, water-dirt tiles, etc are not my own creation. Whoever made them are awesome. Please remember that they are temporary and are only being used to demonstrate some other stuff I've done.

I've used the pics1 cliffs for it, as they seem to look the best when tiles. My edits of them aren't finished. There's no roof yet, and I'm not very eager to work on it yet...

Anyway, more of my terrible experiments:

I realize the screenshot is small.

This is mainly showing off the cliffs. (Not much, I know).
