IWD's/EA's/Over-powered items
I believe that the whole point of decreasing the spawn rate on IWD's and EA's, as well as releasing newer items that are a lot weaker then the items released in the far past, was a attempt at balancing the game out because some one thought the current items/level of EA's and IWD's out there was giving GK a problem with balance issues, I guess there were a lot of over powered players and a lot of players couldn't compete. But, this creates a lot of problems for people, I will explain;
What's the point in attempting to balance the game out by removing the IWD's/EA's and releasing items that don't stack up even closely to older items, if the only people who really play GK are the people who have these insane items, and weapons/armor that are maxed out already? I could understand trying to balance the game out, but not if all of these powerful items are still floating around. You now also create a problem with players who haven't played for a while, or have stacked up EA's and IWD's when they were cheap, who can come in and either devastate the EA/IWD economy in a matter of minutes and became insanely rich off of it. So, now you have a player who has played in the past, where all of these over powered items were created, has all of his gear maxed out already and is also making a killing on scrolls. This system with the reduced spawn on scrolls and weaker items being released has been going on for too long now. The only option is to either start releasing items that compare to the older ones, release the older items again, increase the IWD/EA spawn rate, or remove every single over powered item from the game and start fresh. I know people who have a lot of expensive items wouldn't take to kindly to their items rarity and tradability being reduced, but I think GK needs to be more then just a trade room. We can still have the ability for plenty of trading, you don't have to give every one 5 Blood Rings and 10 AsoD's, but to release some items for the community to actually trade around would be nice at the least. |
some of the new items are way more powerful than old items. just look at ice shield/shield of the moon/etc.

The scroll-spawn changes have left us in a very crappy situation. Changes should have been made in hindsight that weren't and the effects are too far gone now to make much of a difference. But what i do know is where things are now, are completely unbalanced. And so there are three roads:
A) Change nothing, keep on as we are. B) Reset all armours and weapons making sure to not damage those items which revert to their lesser forms such as Crown of Leuc cleaned becomes Crown. Also make redundant or remove all existing EA's & IWD's. Players that are hurt are those who EA'd and Prepped after the changes, or invested in EA's and IWD's after the changes. This should have been done at the earliest moment possible to nullify the damage, now the damage will be great. C) Return to the old spawn rates or place EA's/IWD's in the EC shop for a decent price. Those hurt are those who like with option B, invested after the changes. |
Something else to keep in mind. I'm not entirely sure we have a high enough player count to balance stuff easily. Whatever balance we strike up now will probably go all to hell with a player count 10x as big.
Generally you either make it impossible to get top tier gear with "reasonable" time and effort and discourage new people. This way it'll give "progression" real meaning and a sizeable challenge. Perhaps too much of a challenge given limited content, ultimately stifling growth. Or you make it easy to get top tier gear with no real unobtainable "special" items and make it easier for people to advance in the game and after the server sits around with a lower playercount you will have an elite tier of everyone who'll trash everyone and whine that there's no longer any way they can become superior to everyone. |

Trust me, try fighting a war with 10 or so new, excited, players vs 1 oldbie who's spent the last 6 years level grinding and was around for a bunch of special high-tier irreplaceable items that are downright unobtainable to most new players. It's kind of a one sided slaughter. I don't think many people are going to be willing to play a game for a full year of daily grinding or 5+ years of casual play to reach a point where they don't horribly, horribly suck. So yeah, making it a challenge to work for stuff does make it "worthwhile" when you actually get it, but it does kinda stifle growth. One of the only reasons why I keep coming back is that even though I'm far from being great I'm still "established" skill wise and "decent" gear wise so I don't have to repeat that soul-crushing gauntlet of getting from "noob" all the way up to "someone of relatively minor importance." |
Recent seasonal events have added the best caster items in game. wats the proplem?
