Hey Linux users!

Okay, some of you may have known this, some may not, but I figured it could be useful for some people.
Those of you on standard Ubuntu Linux, which I figure most people should, may have figured out there is technically no level editor out for it yet. Most of you have probably also heard of gonstruct, the...replacement of sorts for it. If you haven't, take a look at this:
http://londeroth.org/~fry/gonstruct/

Now, there's a whole set of annoying things to get it running on Linux.
Forget all that.
Go download wine. It allows certain Windows applications to run on Linux (Zeke you are a GOD for showing me this). Download the windows executable file for gonstruct. Then, if you don't want to search around for it, drag the .exe onto your desktop. Right click it, under properties check, "Allow execution as a program" or whatever the right phrase is under the rights tab. Then run it using wine. It should setup just like a windows program, and it'll work fine. Much easier. :)

By the way, after you're done, look under applications, there should be a wine tab. Go into that, programs, gonstruct, and gonstruct again should start it up. Have fun!

I really don't see the point of using Gonstruct in Wine when it runs perfectly well on Linux already.

For those who are newer to Linux. Less tech-savvy. Of course they shouldn't be using Linux anyways, but I see this as a faster way.

Anyone can feel free to use Linux. You don't need to be a developer to understand its basics and feel just fine using it.

RegretZ is only showing a simpler way for those who don't understand Linux to its entirety, Sheesh.

Don't expect any support from Fry or Loriel if you run it like this and hit bugs though.

Deas_Voice 01-19-2011 11:47 PM

i would never, i repeat, never, use something that runs on linux perfectly fine, in wine.
if someone is going to use linux, they better learn the methods of using it too, not walk around with windows behavior and use .exe in wine all the time (i saw a screenshot of someone trying to run graal in wine instead of using the linux version recently...).

Honestly, do not expect any support anymore either way.

Why shoul dmost people run Ubuntu?

Ubuntu isn't the only distro available...i've ran plenty of other distro's, and I know people who can't stand ubuntu.
Personally, I run KUbuntu, but thats because I simply cannot stand gnome.

Also, why shouldn't we be using Linux? Its a perfectly fine OS that runs as it should...not to mention there are tons of distro's available to those new to linux, and for those who are more advanced computer users.

And like everyone else said...why run a program in wine when you can run it normally?
And if its a matter of not knowing how to compile a program, Google is your friend.

Edit: After looking through the Gonstruct site, he even has instructions for compiling Gonstruct...

Yea, It takes 5 minutes tops to install the dependencies and compile Gonstruct.
