Player Density

Hello all. Just a quick question.

I'm considering coming back to dev'ing from a rather prolonged absence, something like 5 years. I was curious what the current community is like. How are the player counts and such? I've looked at the current classic servers and there are literally no people on them. The levels are all messed up and full of broken links. Is that pretty much the norm now? Ghost town servers? Is there a certain peak time where players show up these days?

Is it even worth coming back for anything other than my own amusement? Kind of seems like a waste to make things no one will ever see.

I can answer your questions.

Yes it's pretty much normal now unfortunately, Yep ghost town servers, and yes and no on time peaks for players for it depends on the servers you go to.

As to your own amusement as a reason to come back.. I'd say maybe if you just want to mess with people or something.

Playercount is lower than it was 5 years ago (don't let the padded iPhone numbers and irrelevant poker counts tell you so otherwise) but I think it's improving compared to last year.

I recommend working on UN, Zodiac, or Era and not bothering with dev servers or 3 playercount servers. It's rather pointless and you're better off contributing (no matter how little) to servers that are actually up. :]

As much as I don't care at all for 2/3 of these servers and one I feel has potential but needs more help. Crono is 100% right.

Players are about 61% water, 37% hot air, and 2% ****ty attitude. Do your own calculations.

I'd be more liable to just work offline for a while and make my own server overworld then attempt to get scripting help later. I make custom tile gfx and do level/map design myself, just never did learn to script. At least then I'd have the enjoyment of making what I actually want to make instead of what someone tells me they want made.
