The mining stuff looks edible, soft, and easy to chew.

Tell me about it. I want a chocolate bar after seeing the brown one.

I like it, but I also agree with the above posts about the mining images...they look like bars of soap

Brown? you mean bronze.

And yea I used a deep/blackish color of the base color to make the border, it adds a softer appearance.

A very important factor for metallic surfaces is contrast, and lots of it. Just a suggestion.

That's brilliant dude, light reflection on a rounded shape like that is definitely something interesting to explore.

I would like it without, but for the sake of smoothness I decided to use dithering...

Yep...but it's not a typical game goldbar, still hes rightish ^^

DustyPorViva 11-04-2010 07:57 AM

I'll be serious and just say that metal is mostly reflective, so what you may actually perceive as proper shading from light are just reflections of the surroundings. So if there was an object in front of my gold bar, the darker side would be completely appropriate. Now I'm just justifying shoddy technique like mine, but just saying :) In fact, these reflections are mostly what cause the contrasting effects in metals(from an object being reflected, but being "dark" on the metal against the natural colors of the metal and reflecting light. Pretty much silhouettes, almost.
