Some thought needs to be placed into the UI for once.

Attached what it looks like by default. I can't see how anyone thinks this is acceptable presentation.

Chakrah 10-05-2010 10:07 PM

looks pretty cluttered imo

i'd hardly call any of that useful, especially when it gets in the way of the world chat

World chat is unimportant and cements Graal's place as nothing more than a glorified chatroom

fowlplay4 10-06-2010 06:44 AM

I hate UN but it really makes me angry that they are doing nothing about their obvious UI problems and the complete lack of guidance for any new player.

how does having a short history of what player's around you have said boil graal down to a chatroom?

You suggested getting rid of parts of Graal's gameplay elements in favor of something that requires no gameplay and effectively serves as nothing more than a means to make Graal a more streamlined chat client.

how is talking to players not a part of graal's gameplay? almost all anyone does on graal is talk amongst their friends, guilds, etc. and to say that it doesn't make up a significant part of why we play graal, hence why it's been focused on and refined with the world chat, then you are just dumb

besides, i'd rather see what people have said around me rather than knowing how many bombs and arrows i have or where some random person is on the useless minimap. and guess what - you can just turn off the world chat instead of turning off the minimap and GUI. it's like it was designed to be customizable for player's who don't want to focus on the history of conversation - just like you!!!

i can have space for my world chat, and you can have room for your useless crap that "enhances" your gameplay

'nuff said

Kinda veering away from the topic's point, how can UN keep that as the default UI/representation of the server. Every server on the public serverlist has a proper 'default' UI except UN.

All you have said is pretty much "i like graal better for the talkin' than the playin'"

Which goes back to you/UN treating it more like a chat client than a game

70% of what i do on UN is spar, the other 30% is spent talking to friends. stop trying to stereotype me with your biased agenda

UN should die while attempting to become an RPG server like Delt and NP.

DustyPorViva 10-07-2010 02:13 AM

They should merge the notification system and the chat system when they are both active... somehow. Dunno, notification system is all fancy-shmancy, so people might not like having it simplified to just looking like the regular chat history.

hurr durr

i gave you a way to fix the clutter, you're saying it's unnecessary and should be fixed by staff instead of having to input simple commands. you can say that without pitting people against people for no reason

Crono 10-07-2010 02:56 AM

rufus is right, but its not that hard to fix it so what's the fuss?

The chat thing is a bit hard to fix because it occupies a lot of screen, and all the corners are already occupied. Upper-left is occupied by ASD and other info, upper-right is occupied by HP and such, map is in the lower-left, and the notification is occupying lower-right.

However, what can be done is, because notifications go away, chat can be placed in the lower-right and whenever notifications occur the chat can fade away until the notifications are done. The problem is notifications MAY occur often enough that this will annoy people.

Alternative notifications can be moved under hearts since they don't steal too much screen space... but that might just look bad.

or you can just remove the minimap altogether

Cubical 10-07-2010 04:12 AM

Why not turn it into a multiline gui control and make it a fixed height based on the graal control size and add a scroll to it

That doesn't really resolve any issues with it occupying space, though...

Cubical 10-07-2010 04:27 AM

I don't know how it works right now but from the pictures it seems to go all the way up your screen so I don't know how it wouldn't cut down on the space when you can make 4 or 5 lines visible and the rest hidden.

That's not really the problem though, the problem is that it's overlapping the minimap, regardless of how large it is. You can't move the minimap, and the chat being in the center of the screen(above the minimap) would just look weird.

/alignchat left /alignchat center /alignchat right

that way it can be wherever anyone wants it

Left is occupied by the map, right is occupied by notifications. The only place left is the center... and I dunno if centered chat history is the most appealing thing ever.

Cubical 10-07-2010 05:03 AM

combine notifications and chat

You can already do that by clicking on the arrow button. It moves the block to 4 different positions you can pick from, but the problem still remains.

you can also change how much history it shows. mine looks like the picture all the way to the left, except it doesn't show as much history

What about remaking the minimap and disabling the default one then move it to the right and combine the notifications with the chat and keep it on the left?

Minimap is pretty useless unless you use it open PMs but that thing can be replaced quite easily.

Cubical 10-07-2010 07:00 AM

I used to use it on classic, gk and older zodiac just to hover to see where people were. It was sometimes glitchy though so you'd get half way to where you thought someone was and then it would update.

MysticX2X 10-08-2010 12:34 AM

what is the point of having a clock on your graal screen when about every OS has one on the taskbar.

Luda 10-08-2010 12:36 AM

Or they could just remove the chat system and we wouldn't have to think/comment on what would be a better solution to fix it from being cluttered.

Mark Sir Link 10-08-2010 12:47 AM

I might just be too used to world of warcraft but I like the chat system, it should be changed to allow players to resize/move it on their own though.
