Drastic Playercount Drop

Woah, Era's extra boring these days.
What happened to the playercount?
Everything looks so grim and slow.

Supaman771 09-13-2010 10:53 PM

Well for starters 30 of the average players are staff or RCs, what you see as 80 is really 50.
Then you remove the 5-10 random trials/guests with no clue how to play, 40.
Take care of the 10-20 people idling or working in a business/mine or w.e, 20.
Active people randomly banned (Ie. Wil and myself) 5, 15.
Not discussing ban, using for pure statistical purposes.
Then those 15 are spread out between events, raids, jobs, talking, and w.e else you guys do on Era.

While before the breakdown was more like... 5 staff/RCs, 75.
5-10 random trials is a given, 65.
Chris/Exolia dragged around or abused you if you idled >_<, so just 5-10 for working in businesses/idling, 55.
Thats 4x the active playercount if you do the simple math, gg.

That's if they both start with the same amount of players, so it's not a drop in players per say, it's a drop in players actually playing. And given the fact that we had more updates with the 5 staff/RCs (Minus the best update of the year: Teddy Bear!!) AND more active -players-, I think something needs to seriously change.

Tim_Rocks 09-13-2010 10:57 PM

Well, the answer to that is actually very simple. Most of the players are either back in school, college or have a job.

Mostly this though.

Yes, it's hilarious.

//Edit: First Post Nice!

So, I was going to reply by quoting TSA's post where he announced he fired Chris...

but he deleted the thread for "no longer relevant" :fro:

Yea I was going to mention school too in my post but I instead made both examples have the same player count, and its a pretty accurate example imo.

Yea I know right? I wish I could hug mine till it broke again:cry:.

jkldogg 09-13-2010 11:05 PM

nothing new happens..the only thing i ever really do on era is trading, running gun point, and talking to people.

sometimes raid era mafia, but that's about it

MontyPython 09-13-2010 11:19 PM

I have a special place in my heart for people who act like lack of interest and engagement in Era is some sort of new development.

Idling's been the only thing worth doing for years.

Blaming this on some recent staff change is a popular one for people who are dense/in denial. No manager has finished their "big change" plans and released them for some time now. They always get replaced before they can finish them, then the next manager scraps at least half and the cycle begins all over again. And that's what Era would need to really be brought back to life: Drastic, drastic change. Even then, I have strong doubts that anything would take off.

Graal's final breaths (in my opinion) reside on platforms like iPhone where expectations are low and it's a fun diversion when you're not near a console/decent PC.

100% agree

Yeah, even if there is the server itself to blame, there just aren't many players on Graal to go around anymore. As was already said, the game costs too much considering what you get back. Servers that are run by players with few updates and poor customer service. Add on top of that the fact that the game itself isn't very impressive (besides the developmental aspects), and you have a dying game.

It works for the iPhone, because it is a cute little gimmick. You're on your phone and it's cool to play with other players and have fun and all of that. But, for someone to actually sit in front of their computer and commit money to playing a game, graal can't compete with the big boys. Add to that the non-existent advertisement (outside of word of mouth). Graal is just a poorly run game that keeps most of its current players because of nostalgia and long-term internet friendships.

scooter123 09-14-2010 11:54 AM

Yeah @Mykel. Ima be on Reach today :(

Catbert 09-14-2010 02:10 PM

They kinda banned all teh good players from Era... kind of funny how stubborn they are about banning certain people, like they really have a personal vendetta against them. Meh, what can you do? There's always usding, just get some EP on UN and trade it for some gelat codes. Buy a new acc, unbanned

Dnegel 09-14-2010 06:01 PM

Summer vacation has ended, that's why.

Exactly what Ocelot said we've all grown up, either have a job or a family to look after like myself.

FrozenLies0 09-15-2010 10:56 PM

alright summer vacation has ended, true.
in my opinion, the thing that's making era really boring is this idea of OH LETS NERF EVERY SINGLE GUN AND THEM ALL EQUAL FOR THEIR WORTH....
haw.
haw.
hawwww.

yeah lets play era with ****ty weapons.
i say we bring back the good ol' laming days and events worth playing o.o

Are you serious? The "nerfs" are heading balance in the right direction but some guns are still blatantly overpowered. The tommy gun, for example, is still absolutely absurd, don't know how it's been ignored for so long. The "good ol'" laming days are still very much alive and well.
If imbalanced, unfair gameplay is a plus to you then I don't want to be anywhere near a server where you actually have development influence.

Arakonda 09-16-2010 07:12 PM

There have always been overpowered weapons, but there used to be only a few of them.

Dnegel 09-16-2010 07:54 PM

The overpowered ones; All World War 2 weapons.
The underpowered ones; Ak47, Famas, Colt m1911 and so on..

This. +1 Rep. Hey also, mykel.. You live 20 minutes from me lol

Yea plus kids are going back to school, so they can't devote entire summers to slaving away on Graal.. Plus as Rogue said alot of oldbies are banned now.
(Not discussing bans so don't even try admins)
