Horrible Playerlist

Here's some background. I've played Graal for ages and I've never had this problem or anything like it. Recently, I reformatted my computer.
(Before you mention, I have the most up to date service packs, Windows updates, graphics card drivers, DirectX)

With my fresh installation of Graal on my fresh installation of Windows, the out of game playerlist (don't suggest use in-game, if I wanted to even consider that option, why would I post this?) slows down my Graal (and other programs) beyond reason.

-Whenever I select players for a mass, it scrolls down and has to re-render every single name on the playerlist, and this takes about 4-5 seconds.
-When players sign on/off the server, it freezes Graal momentarily to render their name on the playerlist.
-When I open a PM, there's momentary freezing once again.
-Scrolling down on the playerlist also has to re-render all of the names.

I have the same Windows settings as before (best performance, no smooth-scrolling or resource sucking bull**** like that) so I don't have a clue as to what's causing this.

FYI: Running Windows XP

*Download HijackThis (Google that) and see if their is any background programs running.
*Also are you on wireless? If so make sure your router has a open port just for graal.
Other than that I would just reformat my computer. and see if that does the trick.

I don't know if you read my post... but this happened JUST after I reformatted. Working fine beforehand, now it's not. And I'm on the same router I've always been on.

May we know the specs of your computer?

I've had this problem, especially with Adobe programs like Fireworks (possibly Photoshop). Selecting certain things will "refresh" the playerlist and it will go blank for a few seconds then the names will reappear, which lags the entire computer while it "refreshes". Only happens with Adobe programs, though, so I just close the playerlist when working with them.

Sounds like the same problem but with different triggers.

Fix a compatibility issue with Graal? lol

Itachi 06-17-2010 08:05 PM

Or fixing the menu. What are those kind of menus called that are lagging? (The Graal playerlist style). Maybe I can research it...

Double post, but I SOMEWHAT fixed the problem:

I took the "Hardware Acceleration" (in Display -> Settings -> Advanced -> Troubleshoot) down one notch, but it seems to lag client a bit more. Interesting...

Might be some internal windows problem or using hardware acceleration for the desktop when the graphics card doesn't have enough memory for it. In v6 this should be better.

I wouldn't use hijackthis unless you know what your doing and you're willing to take the chance of forcing yourself to format.

HijackThis can be a good tool to see if there are bad processes running on your computer. It doesn't make any changes unless you ask it to.

So how long do we have to wait for V6...? I've been asking to get a Beta version multiple times now and have yet to receive it.

Do you even need the client though? The client becomes unplayable after 78~ minutes, and you don't seem to be someone who's going have to fix a server so it's working correctly before the client is actually released either.
