I've been busy lately.

Some of you may know about me, but some others just don't. I'll make it clear for everyone.

I've been extremely inactive lately due to exams. I will not justify myself over and over, but some strange and sad events occured.
First, my exams are pretty much like a bachelor. Even if I keep succeding in them, the 3 schools I asked to be in next year for my studies refused me. Why? I don't know, seriously don't know. Those schools are public and I know there may be quite a lot of people willing to go in, but looking at my results, I can't understand why they would refuse my applications.

Being refused means I will not have any school to go in next year, which sucks.
So now I'm forced to enter a private school. Yes, a private school costs money. Do you know how expensive? 7.000 euros a year.

Now you know, and I would like to sincerely apologize for my inactivity.

Just a little question. Would you guys like to see a Graal World Cup event?
I know the World Cup started yesterday, but it isn't that bad if we don't run it in the same time, and I believe setting up this kind of event would only take a few days, or maybe up to one week. What about it?

Let the ideas and comments flow freely.

If it's just going to be go to X server and play Y event, rinse and repeat until we've visited quite a few servers, not really.

Soala 06-12-2010 07:13 PM

Actually, it would be only one server set up where players can log in. The player then choose the server he wants to fight for. We let some days for players to sign up for the event, then the first rounds are organized, just like a real world cup, untill one team (server) wins the cup.

That certainly explains a bit in regards into what we were working on, thanks for the update. But yea, if planned right, Graal World Cup could be a great event for players to enjoy.

Considering current circumstances within the game I'd personally prefer to pass. I'd rather start seeing server/game-play issues addressed by the GDT rather than the habitual maintenance of the status-quo (no offense intended to any GDT members who actually do what they volunteered to do in the first place by becoming a member of the team).

How many years in a row now have the Graal Olympics failed to happen, even with competent developers/server management willing to be involved?

I fail to be optimistic about the GDT's response to that.

That's completely understandable, but I would like to give it a try still.
It's not because many people failed in the past that such project should never be attempted to be done anymore.

The Graalympics have failed in my opinion, because there's a nice chunk of players out there, that for some reason would not like to see that happen. On the other hand, i see no down falls. We just need someone to actually go about it, and stop listening to a few members (Mostly forum posters, and not in-game players, i might add.)

Just host it, nobody should need to ask us if it's OK to host a game-wide event.

So basically the event is screwed if you can't get the server and it'll also need enough quality events to make it worthwhile as well.

I really doubt that the GDT could start working as a team (not a group of volunteers) to get this done.

I do have one server at the moment for this project, and I will not need that much people to make it.

I see no reason for Stefan to decline a request like this, especially if it's for everyone.

Yeah but people have been burned before putting all their eggs into the Stefan basket, and it's not just him that you'll have to convince there's the PWA who will have to be on board with it as well.

I don't see why they'd need to be convinced, still. The only other factor(s) i think that would interfere are Classic iPhone development, and V6. The last big event i remember was the Ol' West challenge thing which Stefan put together, and that was years ago.

I was more so referring to them actually having to do the server inspection.

100% agree.
