New Server?

Hello Graalians,

I am actually wondering what you would do..

The current servers are having a pretty low playercount already, And i'm wondering if it is worth buying new time for my server..

Would you do it?

MrName 05-07-2010 04:04 PM

I mean like, Is it worth the money.. Are there actually people which can Develop on the server and are there actually enough players..

People that are capable of developing yes, people that feel like it or have the time for it, and also have a decent quality of work, not so much.

Players, i guess that if your server is good enough, and you advertise for it on your own, you could draw players in.

Would i buy servertime? no, then why did i? I'm crazy.

I prabably wouldn't myself. But depends on how much you really like making things.

fowlplay4 05-07-2010 04:22 PM

If you have a strong enough idea and you can actually contribute to a majority of the development, go for it.

However if you don't enjoy developing, don't because you are going have trouble finding quality people to work for you.

That's Jigga, I believe

Soala 05-07-2010 04:48 PM

I voted yes, but it really depends of the situation you are in.
Just like Jerret said, if you find yourself being able to do quite a lot of work on it and only need a few developers, then you could probably give it a try. But it still requires strong ideas, concepts and much more.

It's up to you :)

As for whether or not there are players, potentially yes, but not if you have to pay to play. so no. lol. Just look at the iPhone regularly is over 1k players.

Rufus 05-07-2010 05:13 PM

No, unless I had a large portion of my server already done and a strong direction in which I intended to go in.

MrName 05-07-2010 05:36 PM

Well, The graphics are done, So are the systems and levels.. You can actually play on it already.

The only problem is that i want to change the gameplay but i need scripts and level makers for that.. And it is pretty hard to find very good scripters / level makers which actually work..

If I were you, I would focus on learning how to level and/or script first

I can make levels, But i ain't good with my own tileset.. All my levels are based on the Era tileset and images..

You're obviously going in the wrong direction if you start like that =/
Try to think about custom tiles yourself and find a decent graphic artist, you might then come to something satisfying for everyone.

I didn't say the server is like that, We already have a tileset and levels.. I only said that i learned making levels with the Era tiles and that it looks like era when i make them.. Thats why i dont make levels on my own server ;p

I'd plan things out (thoroughly), present it to people you know, try and see if some people are on board and see if people like your ideas and plan...then decide.

with what i know now, if i was to ever purchase a server again, i'd try to do most of it offline before purchasing server time. I would get a gmap outline, maybe some quest levels done or outlined. That way when the time comes, all i need to do is add scripts and change things here and there.

I'd outline the levels and do some graphics, but mostly it should all be planning and ideas and expanding on those ideas. That's what you should do before ever starting a project.

No point in starting a new server when there are plenty out there being worked on already where you could join thier team and actually produce something rather then making a server from scratch, draining the pool even more of what developers we do have left. Also it seems the PC version of Graal is dieing, best bet would to learn how to make an iPhone server.

Isn't the way graal is charged going to change, as well as players pc can play on the iphone server, all in v6?

All of it is hear-say. There are no actual announcements. It's been spoken of but nothing set in stone as far as this goes.

On that note too, graal has been dying since like 2006, so that is nothing new. Unfortunately it will be up to the developers most likely to get graal out in the open again. I try to be optimistic about the game, and v6, and with v6, there is something very slowly to look foward to. Even though there are GDT, PWA, and Forums admins, mods, ect, they don't do jack about getting this ******* game out there. So again, the community will probably have to pick up the slack if they care.

Well, Stefans mentioned the possibility of it. But that doesn't mean much.
