Graal 'Classic' 3D (picture heavy)

I made this because I would have loved to play a Graal (Classic) 3D game.

These models are extreamly low poly, and the textures is as you can all see mostly taken from pics1.png, although since it's all 2d, I had to make some alterations to make it fit to the 3d models (harder then it looks, lol). That means it would run super smooth if converted into a game correctly.
Since Graal is mostly about pking, sparring and events, it would be awesome to have a 60fps + gameplay.

Anyway, hope you like what I have done so far.

Good job. I love them. :)

The grass is a bit odd but I can't think of a better way of representing it in 3D.

salesman 03-22-2010 06:15 PM

Cool. I'd love to see a character in 3d

Cloven 03-22-2010 06:18 PM

Very nice. ^^

Crow 03-22-2010 06:38 PM

You got the wrong tiles for the fence post connection. Besides that, awesome work. Requesting a classic Graal client, behaving exactly like the one we know and use, but build using your 3D stuff, so we can rotate and tilt our view.

Door 03-22-2010 06:46 PM

hahaha that's pretty awesome pal. I can totally imagine a custom Halflife level tailored to look like Graal with this stuff. It would be.. surreal. LOL imagine.

Crono 03-22-2010 06:52 PM

neat

No I was referring to two different types of surreal. In this case it would be a totally personal subjective surreality. In YOUR case I was referring to the art movement.

Umat 03-22-2010 10:03 PM

I'm getting N64 wibes over here. :>

I think the middle part of the fence should have some thickness, but other than that it looks nice.

It's a 3D thing... a very, very useful way to save polygons. Establishing any sort of depth on such a thing like that will crank up the polygons fast, especially when you consider the fact that same polygon will be shown a lot(fences are long!).

It's why you see the same effect on n64/PSX games... and even on the PS2/gamecube games in some areas.

I figured it had something to do with that, but I didn't really think he was planning on using these in a game. Good work nonetheless.

Fun. The biggest problem is making an acceptable 3D classic-style character, and after that, presenting the 3D world in a acceptable classic camera-angle.

I think the only way you could present the 3D world, as far as camera angle goes, is some sort of close-crop light fish-eye effect. I've never seen any of it done though.

The style of the DS pokemon games would suit Graal insanely well.

Looks very nice to me. The character is sprite-generated?

DustyPorViva 03-22-2010 11:43 PM

Well actually, most of the overworld is sprite generated(characters, trees, fences). :)
It's just the camera is mainly from one viewpoint, thus they can get away with it.

Dnegel 03-23-2010 12:03 AM

Swwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwweeet!

Make more! <3

I will try and make a character soon. It will be challenging, but not impossible (I hope).
The biggest problem with graal characters is that they are taller then 32 pixels, but the doors are not, lol, but we don't care because of the perspective. But in 3d it would be strange to have a door the half of someones hight.
Will probably have to make the doors be like twise as tall and 50% wider.

About the camera view, It would be possible to have a fixed default camera. But why not take advantage of the 3rd dimention when it's there? It should be possible to have a first persion look around view (like when you aim in Zelda 64 sort of).

My oppinion anyway.

Nisube 03-23-2010 01:01 AM

Very nice, I like the spinning effect :p

oo_jazz_oo 03-23-2010 01:17 AM

This stuff is very awesome. :D

This is what graal-3d should look like.

Because Graal's dimensions/proportions/style are not really suited for a 3D environment, I think.

hehe, right you are Dusty, but I still want to make it work :D

Here is a little test to show the possibilities. And this is with only the few models I have made so far.

12171217 03-23-2010 05:39 AM

Looks well suited for a DS or PSP game.

Fulg0reSama 03-23-2010 06:22 AM

Graal DS

Make it happen.
