Level Image Generator

Maybe this will be useful for someone. It's just an easy way to generate a screenshot of a level (since GraalEditor has some problems with generating screenshots via ALT + 1).

It supports images, but the image library used is lacking in non-Era images. I can add more if you send me the images.

This turned out to be very useful for me recently, figured i'd let ya know. ^^ I'll add this to the Bible soon if you haven't done so already.

Curious but what kind of problems are people experiencing with alt + 1? Difference between this and alt + 1?

Alt + 1 doesn't work at all with Aero enabled from my experience.

The problem with this tool, and the reason I think it didn't get much initial interest, is that it doesn't work with lights and doesn't have a large gallery of images.

Alt+1 also doesn't support addtiledef2 :/ It's a pain in the ass to go and copy/paste my addtiledef2 portions into screencaps.

However, I suggest just using Gonstruct :)

It does. The problem you're talking about is only a problem on the v5 client on Vista. I believe the v2 version the editor uses still screens. Either way I posted a temp-solution for it a while back:

Ah, cool. Guess this tool is useless then :p

Some rainy day I'll make it accept ZIP files and generate images for GMAPs, since that might actually be useful.

Generating a real-size image from GMAPs would indeed be awesome. I suggested it a while ago but level editor is not gonna be touched anytime soon. :P

I imagine it could be done with an AutoIT script to screenshot all of the levels in a GMAP, and a Photoshop batch script to stitch them all together. But that's a little precarious since Stefan could create a tool for this in ~45 minutes. :frown:

I would absolutely love a real size image generator to next reduce the size of it a bit and add whatever effects I need or textures, instead of getting ridiculous tiny pixels that look far from what the real levels are, or hardly show anything (wtf at 1px bush)

Real-sized images are impractical for actual usage. They are only useful for smaller gmaps or editing them yourselves. The filesizes would be immense and loading such a huge image would take more effort than it's worth.

That's not to say I wouldn't want to be able to generate a real-sized image of a gmap -- like I said, great for editing... but don't ever expect to use them online.

Could be really handy if you could generate the GMAP with a grid overlay too. I personally just want a high-resolution GMAP image for ingame maps and supporting graphics. :)

Soala 05-03-2010 01:10 AM

I know I would never use such huge image ingame, but I guess it would still hold better details than the current generator if you resized it yourself to a decent size.

Downsampling a high-resolution GMAP image will work a lot better than stretching a little image up to size. :p High resolution images let me do nice effects more effectively too.
