Mac Ganis

Is there any way yet to get a Graalshop client on a mac? I've been wondering this for a while, but my PC recently broke so now I really need one.

Help this man with his problems!

I don't think so. You'd have to use an online version, but I'm not sure there are any that are fully functional (though I think there is one that is considerably functional).

If ever get an opportunity that is interesting enough to get back into developing, I'd love to have a go at making one, or finishing the one that I mentioned above.

It's not likely. There is an in-game editor floating around somewhere you may be able to use, though.

Yes, There is an online ganishop but it's incomplete. You cant remove sprites once they've been placed in and only way to adjust once you unselect them is by selecting them through the menu of sprites on the board to the right and using arrow keys or the buttons < ^ v > and its just overall annoying. The newest one's quick sprite maker is also broken. If anything I use it for just the quick sprite maker.

The scripted gani maker is pretty good, in some ways better than graalshop.exe, but it's not finished and there was no scripter yet who can finish those things like sprite maker.

Hopefully a scripter can do that.

Maybe stefan when all of the work on like iphone and **** is done :P

Will try to work on it next week. We need to finish some of the scripted tools, including the scripted RC. For the level editor I still don't know if an in-game editor is better or one which edits the .nw file separately. It seems most devs prefer the later, but an in-game editor (editing directly the online tiles & npcs) will look and feel better and also works for 3D terrain like on Kingdoms.

One important thing to do for the gani editor is to upload the gani like the scripted RC (or use the scripted RC) so we don't need to give the npcserver write rights to everything.

I wouldn't waste time on it if I was you. It's trash right now, and it's not likely to get better because of the nature of in-game GUIs.

Trash in what way?
Scripted RC would open many possibilities including separate logs/tags for special npc data, direct access to other scripted tools, customizable RC news etc.
Playerlist will also work with > 1000 players :D

  • Scripting sucks because of the non-native controls and lack of functionality (e.g. highlighting the start of a function if you cursor over the end brace like is done on RC)
  • You have to be logged in to use client-RC
  • If your client crashes, you lose internet, or you're disconnect, you lose all your work
  • The client-RC doesn't support editing as text or editing files in the default program like RC does
  • Reconnecting is a pain with client-RC
  • Non-native controls are less responsive, destroying the user interface aspect of RC

No scripter is ever going to want to use client-RC unless it becomes equal to the current RC, which would require using native OS controls.

Admins 03-12-2010 02:05 PM

Well the current RC is not using native OS controls either :p
Those are custom drawed GTK controls.

Well, they're a lot more responsive than 20 FPS ones :p

Has there been any updates to this? It'd be cool to have a GANI editor again.

What are you bumping? There's a scripted GANI editor that you can use. I wouldn't hold your breath on a native GANI editor for Mac when we can't even get a working version of RC or a level editor.

I think we should focus on more realistic things, perhaps hover cars?
