Shift+H and a certain person

Quote:

Mass Message:
Hi guys,

I know there's a lot of controversy going on about the removal of the "Shift+H" gani. Over the past few months there has been an increasing use of it as a tool to harass people. It's never been appropriate to have it on the server, and I ask myself why we kept it as long as we did to begin with.

Due to recent events, the cup sort of spilled over (so to say). We decided to remove it to reduce problems of that sort in general. It wasn't based on one person's individual issue, but based on collective issues over a stretched out time span. I didn't see a reason to have it removed when I got into management, but over the past few months it's become very clear.

If you have any questions, concerns, or want to let off some steam about the subject, PM me.

It's a whole lot better than getting the stink eye from the GPs.
~Streety
Personally I don't find this decision a good one.

SO dumb.
Let's just remove everything because one person complains.

DustyPorViva 12-31-2009 09:13 AM

You know you used to be able to grab other players way back when? Ya... that was removed(yes, Stefan removed an actual hard-coded function from the game client itself) because people would simulate humping with it :P(back when you could rapidly pull and make a humping-like animation). So this isn't exactly something new.

LordSquirt 12-31-2009 09:21 AM

Delteria also had this for years, but I could see the downsides to it

certain PWA members know all about this AMIRITE

Switch 12-31-2009 09:34 AM

This just in:

Shift+H was replaced again with "the wave".
Shift+X was replaced with suicide bombing. HMMMMMMMMMMMM...

Is that really surprising? Sex(and the harassment variation) is held way above violence in terms of censoring.

Crono 12-31-2009 10:39 AM

so stupid.

SwimChao 12-31-2009 12:06 PM

It's a little silly that this is being made into a big problem. I could understand if it was about how controlling the controversial outburst was executed, but we're talking about the removal of free, insignificant ganis activated by pressing a button. You didn't have to pay for these, and so it's not like you need to be compensated.

The fact is, they shouldn't have been put on the server in such a manner as they were. At first I blamed the management who allowed it to happen, but at this point I blame myself for not paying attention to it, and not removing it off the bat.

I'm sorry, but what is done is done. I really don't want this thread to turn into some mess, so I'm going to be keeping the stink eye on it. Just remember that you're upset over the loss of the ability to wiggle your character's body back and forth. It didn't even portray the action very well. The feature wasn't even on the server for that long. (You still have *rides!)

Crono 12-31-2009 12:41 PM

remove *hug and *rides plz it offends me

While I see where you're coming from with this response, this might be going a little bit overboard on the situation. There are differences, so one can't just go and start saying things such as that. Next thing we'll have is people sarcastically saying "Remove sword-slashing, it offends me" taking away from the specifics of why Shift+H was removed and how those specifics differ to say a hug or ride.

Crono 12-31-2009 01:01 PM

i do agree that shift+h was testing the line but i cant believe people actually felt offended by it.

thats kind of my point.

Luda 12-31-2009 02:50 PM

Honestly, I think it was just used an excuse for someone to get others in trouble and it went too far. I mean c'mon? Era has guns which promotes shooting at eachother. Cool. I'm fine with shift+h being removed but now shift+x (i see this more of a taunt then a type of sexual harassment) is gone?

zephirot 12-31-2009 04:23 PM

Huh seriously how is it a problem? -_-

12171217 12-31-2009 04:26 PM

What about the hat/body/head combo that makes you look like a *****?

That offends me.

Even though I'm banned anyway :P

Rufus 12-31-2009 05:57 PM

So.. why was mooning removed?

iunno, chin chan was a childrens show, and all he did was moon, why remove it from a game.

Elizabeth 12-31-2009 06:52 PM

I think it was a stupid gani, it got really annoying. I won't miss it.

However, the Peyton talk I will miss. It was like, my favourite conversation topic in mass.

Hiro 12-31-2009 09:11 PM

when you remove one "offensive" gani from the list then it starts to trickle down until they all get removed. you suddenly decide what is right and what is wrong, and it's ridiculous. why don't you ban the people who decide that they are offended by it?

LordSquirt 12-31-2009 09:44 PM

Not sure since i'm not a scripter, however, is it possible for people who are offended to just click a button to disable the gani?

Just remember that Management and Certain Players were upset about the abuse of the ability to wiggle your character's body back and forth. Which didn't even portray the action very well.

I can remember wandering the grottoes of Classic and randomly coming across pairs of players rapidly A+directionaling a few times.

I'm essentially scarred for life.

And Shift+X isn't offensive? My people are jeopardized every day by Shift+X'ers.

Riddle me this: If it didn't portray the action very well, why were people "offended" by it and it was removed?

Elizabeth 01-01-2010 01:06 AM

maybe you should be mad at the people who complained rather than the staff for removing it

Ultimately it was the decision of the staff. If there were enough people complaining to have it removed it's more likely that a verbal minority wish to maintain it.

However, it's all pretty ridiculous - a "disable" button would have been most appropriate.

One or two people probably hardcore complained about it (NO PUN INTENDED ELELEL) until the staff did something. :I

Vima 01-01-2010 03:24 PM

I can just see how this decision is rather going to piss people off and make them more "Anti ######" :/

i really doubt that there was a lot of people complaining about it; if you played UN you'd see it being used all the time. this whole situation isn't important, and there shouldn't even be a thread about it.

Imperialistic 01-01-2010 10:18 PM

I think that it's not breaking any rules, amirite?

Shouldn't of been removed mostly because of the fact that it's only offending, if you interpret it that way.. and that just falls back on the own players fault, rite?

Imperialistic 01-01-2010 10:40 PM

you're a bright guy, think about it.

dark_mater_s 01-01-2010 11:24 PM

Think of it this way, When I added and removed the Gani it was like I added a 1 then removed it. You're back at where you started. Switch if you want the Gani back that's fine, you can gani why don't you make one and replace the gani in your Graal folder? That way when you have the sudden urge to "express" your feelings towards another place via the Gani it will all be on your client and will not be affecting other players.

And towards the exploding Gani and saying it resembles suicide bombers; I am from Middle East, born and raised there and I do not find the exploding offending.

So you guys should really stop talking about it.

Deophite18 01-01-2010 11:47 PM

Lol...most asinine thing iv seen since Tig removed the fart gani from Era.

Frankie 01-02-2010 12:17 AM

can someone explain what the gani was?

Ctrl+H was basically like hug except you moved back and forth slightly.

Ctrl+x was your butt and it made you wag it back and forth.

Both acceptable ganis IMO. But not according to these admins who are apparently trying to protect the innocence of the massive amount of 6 year olds playing graal. I suppose these ganis are 2 XTREME. But a server full of guns or a npc that slices someones head off leaving a bloody stump spewing blood is not nearly as bad.

MysticX2X 01-02-2010 05:26 AM

So much controversy made by one person.

How do they know about my emotions, feelings, tingly-insides, etc? My soldiers can no longer march across enemy territory.
