is Graal##### ever going to be removed?

i thought this graal ### thing was temporary so that new players can get the good accounts names and not taken already

fowlplay4 12-24-2009 12:19 AM

No.

Crono 12-24-2009 12:45 AM

Hope registration is reverted back to the way it used to be.

no

The way that Stefan explained it at first was that Graal###### wasn't meant to be visible at all unless the person hasn't already chosen an account name.

Account names were going to become a hidden thing and the use of email addresses for login and community names for in-game would take over.

The problem is that he didn't change anything on the client at all to actually hide the stupid account names, so now we're stuck with them.

What he should have done was just make all trial accounts expire if they haven't been accessed in 3 months.

Graal###### will only disappear when scripters start making their scripts not show them. As far as I know, the client doesn't actually show account names at all.

The reason the transition is so annoying to scripters is that many legacy scripts need major renovation to work with community names, plus there's a huge lack of support for them.

Playerlist "show account instead of nick" uses accounts instead of community names. Profiles still show account names instead of community names.
RC needs to be updated as well.

Is there a community name equivalent of #a? Or has #a been changed to point to community names instead of account names?

You haven't scripted in a while, have you? :p

#a hasn't been used for years. The new Gscript equivalent is player.account, and the community name variable is player.communityname.

Catbert 12-25-2009 12:31 AM

Nope.

I knew about player.account but I don't use GS2 much so my brain reverts to GS1. Like an English speaker trying to speak Spanish, my thoughts are still in English :)

Anyway, I thought the gang gui on Era was updated recently? It's still showing account names.
Look at the cluster of Graal###### accounts here. Would suck if one of them offtagged and then logged off and you couldn't remember who to remove.

It would be difficult to adapt the current one since community names can change. It's not worth the time since Sales hopes to release his soon.

Man don't even bother. Community names are such a steaming pile of ****.
If everybody keeps neglecting to update all of their systems to include community names maybe in like 15 years Stefan will finally get rid of that crap.

Account names (visible static)
Community names (invisible dynamic (unless you change all your scripts and make them visible))
Nicknames (visible dynamic)

Which of those seems the most useless to you?

An alternative I wouldn't mind would be a playerworld with static nicknames.

Admins 02-15-2010 04:39 PM

Community names are some kind of claiming nick names.

i dont really care about it :P but the suckish is that when you are using names you have to put first accounts name X_X

Jcs1919 02-20-2010 07:11 AM

not really. that's how it was with the older accounts because the accounts stayed with that name the entire time. with the graal# accounts, who cares what the community name is? - it could change at any time; it doesn't reflect a person's alias at all as it does with the older accounts

Masa 02-21-2010 06:07 PM

It's all about style!
Graal###### accounts just aren't cool.
Even if someone has a "cool" community name, it's kind of a turn-off to see them with a "common-day" graal###### account

Scenario:
- Sees someone with the nickname *Zelda; of course the asterisk means his nickname is also his apparent account
- "Gee, that's a pretty cool account!"
- His coolness level has gone up to 6
- Right-clicks to profile, only to see his actual account is Graal345978
- His coolness level drops back down to 3

Accounts are all about status
There's a hierarchy, 'ya see:
1) Ibonic's ultra-cool, so he reserves the top of the list with a two-letter account, *iB

2) Accounts with three and four characters. These are cool because the max characters for account creation was 5, however some people are cool enough to get special treatment.
*Rick, *Duck, *SSS, *Ven, *Masa, *Meph, *LGM, *jade, *Kill, etc.

3) Accounts with five or more characters that spell cool words/names
*Glock, *Eclipse, *Salesman, *swift, *Tseng, etc.

-----------------
- Generally, people above this line realize that they have a cool account and show it off by fronting the asterisk before their name as shown.
- People below this line realize that their account isn't quite cool enough to use as a nickname.
-----------------

4) Accounts that spell cool/witty phrases or semi-cool words
*LoadedSwift, *LordSquirt, *alskdjfhg, *SensesFail, etc

5) Accounts that spell words but contain numbers or underscores, or contain "_P2P" because it was cool to put _P2P a while back
*Demisis_p2p, *Israfel_i, *Fire_Knight310, *Andre2006, *l33tcrayons, *wizard1st

6) Accounts that either don't spell something too appealing, or just don't make any sense. At this point, having a non-graal###### account is cool enough to suffice for higher status.
*Sum41freeeeeek, *Fewynchan, *MWMWM, *Death_Striker, etc.

7) Graal###### accounts that try to look cool by setting cool community names, but in the end they're still Graal###### accounts.
community name - Oddish, account *Graal346472
etc.

8) Graal###### accounts.

LordSquirt 02-21-2010 07:21 PM

I like your hierarchy
