The Missing Quarter...
Where is it? Q3 was in July which means that Q4 is over a month late and coming ever closer to Q1 2010. I don't wanna bust Dev balls here but I'm just curious what, if anything, is planned for this quarter.
With any scheduled (perhaps not official dates but quarterly dictates a 3month regime) they really ought to be some communication if there are any delay problems or the offering of a teaser/preview. We've all seen teasers used very well on other games. |
I think communication is a good idea. We mostly assume nothing is happening when we don't here from any staff member, causing the staff members that are working to become displeased while we're also angry for not being fill in on anything.
When Tig occasionally puts forth his plans/ideas/thoughts, I'm really "satisfied" that he is doing so. I rarely see communication, and I think it's a good thing. |
Communication is a good idea, but they like to keep development on debug secret for some reason, probably just to make us think that things are actually going on when in truth there isn't. Atleast that's the impression I get. Prove me wrong with a good update please, changes like adding no-pk to a room won't suffice.
I mean an update in 2009, not 2010. |

Who is to say the updates Tig has been doing, such as change in plat weight, change in diamond price and the many other things that Tig has worked on are not Q4 updates? Not saying they are but the "dev" team or Tig as I like to call it works hard for you guys. Appreciate the updates he does bring and don't worry about things that have not been done yet.

But would you guys rather updates all at once and call it "quarterly" or would you rather faster updates but in smaller releases? Lets take alook at what was recently "released".
This is just to name a few :\ Maybe they should have been waited and released as an "official" quarterly update but this list is just as big as any other quarter update. However, "update" simply means change and does not specify to change for the good or worse. So like it or not, you guys GOT your updates be happy that there's more to come with a quarterly update (unless this is it, then please label them as so). |
I agree with the new kid. Tig works hard, he is hardly some lazy bum. But there is only so much he can do really.

why on earth have an outside (of all places) level, but just one area where it is a nopk zone? thats down right retarded |

Ugh, no1 said Tig doesn't work hard enough :whatever: Just asking where the quarter is. These little updates recently may well have been Q4 but there hasn't been any confirmation of that. And confirmation is needed for scheduled updates or else the expectation leads to confusion. Like so...

If I remember Q1 was released in October of last year was it not? So then something got messed up, and theres no point going by the 3 month quarters anymore. I'm just trying to remember though, and generally speaking 1st Quarter info isnt all out until mid december, They are actually in the first quarter right now and have been since october

I prefer to the concept of a dungeon to a quest, even if the dungeon hosts some quest(s). Running around like a twit reminds me too much of WoW, and honestly that makes me cringe. |

I am not sure if this was intended but doesn't the NPC's looking for lords usually tell you were the lords are? Because I do not think this works fully if that was it's intent. I think also, that the people looking for escorts were suspose to "track" them as well, or from what I gather from our previous manager Bjorn's website. I would like to see an update that maybe addresses the questing system a little better. Currently people looking for escorts list were the escort spawned and not were the escort really is or at least it seems this way when you comb over the entire island and do not find it just to later find it elsewhere. Maybe add some new quests for new items? The problem I see ever to often is people prefer to be lazy. They do not use the towns for crafting items themselves but rather buy the materials from others. Such as the mines, people prefer to use other methods of making money since these ways (fishing, minning, baking) are ever so slow. It kinda makes the enjoyment of these activity boring and repetative. Bread should be updated as I see it unreasonable that high level mental people such as myself cannot bake such a simple peice of bread but rather unique breads determined on luck. |

Ah well, I can only do so much and my attention is currently focused else where. |

The updates you mentioned, they are fairly minor. They're not something to honestly count as these quarterly updates that are supposed to be updates packed into 1 release. Quote:

I am not saying these are updates I am just saying appreciate work IS being done. Alot of work currently being done on GK is update to MAJOR components of the systems currently in place to provide much more flexability. I was told just recently that some of the mudlib has been rescripted since allot of the mudlib is in C++ and not GS2. Without these "little" updates the "big" updates would be much harder to produce. We all know damn well that there will be updates released around christmas. And this is due to the Holiday. For example, last year Santa was released (I think last year) and he walked around the server and dropped presents. This is when I would start to worry about updates, not now. It would be to painstaking to make an update just to turn around 2 weeks later and make another update. Why not release this all as one, as sean is complaining about? Exactly my point. |
I have been very busy in real life, especially in this god forsaken christmas season. However, I'm taking a lot of my spare time (and maybe even a little of my working time) to actively develop some ideas for Graal Kingdoms.

One thing I saw on some browser game a long time ago that I really liked was the concept of a "Daily Dungeon". Each day it was randomized with a new maze like layout and quest to complete while battling tougher monsters in each dungeon level. The deeper you had to go to complete the quest the more experience you earned. If something along this concept could be made, it would give some people a reason to login 'Daily' and try to complete the quest in hopes of a large experience reward. If you could manage to make it randomize around it would be new and different everyday making it a worth while thing to explore everyday.
Now I know Graal is totally different than a little browser game, but I'm sure with Tig's talents something of the sort could be accomplished. |
