Images that used in pixel art should always be a png because png uses lossless compression giving the image the highest possible quality. In your image you can see the stray pixels where the jpeg compressed the image file.

Here is an example I quickly made of the gun in a png format to show the difference in quality.

lol to be honest i usually do but i was in a rush i always save it as jpeg until im done with it.
but here u go i redid it a little bit and save it as a .png this time

i recommend picking a lightsource, and then giving it volume by making the parts that should reflect the light to you lighter, and the parts that don't receive any light darker.

Eh, how exactly do you see it as different?

Rave_J 11-03-2009 07:09 AM

the shading ..

I like the fact that you used a little bit of blue to shade the gun, most people don't know that metal usually reflects a bit blueish.
However i would really urge you to try a different shading style, try to give the gun a bit more volume, play a bit with the colors.

The thing is, it's not really shaded in my opinion. I see colors with no depth, light source, or anything. It's rather flat with hardly any difference in terms of style?

To each his own, if you like what you've done and don't really care for opinions that is fine. But it's definitely nothing new or different. >_<

edit: To be completely honest, your use of lighter colors/highlights are completely off, unless perhaps someone is constantly shining a flashlight underneath your pistol.

thats sliver and give me a break thats my first gun ever pretty much. So in my eyes yes i think i did very good being since it was my first gun. but i do need to work on my gfxing more and i will work on shading and everything else. just a matter of time till i get good

FaLLChiLD 11-04-2009 03:00 AM

For your first gun, yes. Sorry if I came off harsh, it's not really how I intended. And certainly, time and practice makes you a lot better, keep at it.
