Removing useless drivel from the forums!!!!!

If you start a thread and people insist on replying to the thread with things that are not on topic. The thread starter should be able to report those messages to a moderator for deletion.
This would save both bandwith and server space. The problem is we don't have enough moderators for the individual forums to do this. This is not to silence people and thier thoughts. If you want to discuss something that is off topic move to a new thread or forum where what you are saying will more appropriate.

As an after thought. Stefan and Unixmad would probably answer more posts if people didn't see the need to insert the useless drivel into posts. Such as going completely off topic.
If you are going to say something at least keep it with in the boundaries of the title of the thread.

The report is for report such thing that go agaisnt the system rules. No stuff that is just off topic.

AlexH 09-21-2001 02:43 AM

excuse me
but as stefan said
spam is against the rulez on all the threads
if you want to spam you have to use the Not Graal Related Thread

draco_iii 09-21-2001 02:46 AM

So your saying that you can report a post that is off topic from the discussion at hand. Next question what the chances of those post being removed. When you have 1-3 moderators.

draco_iii 09-21-2001 02:50 AM

AW2_Gohan 09-21-2001 02:52 AM

draco_iii 09-21-2001 03:06 AM

I'm sorry that you see this as a place to show your immaturity in repeatedly posting useless drivel. The fact is you react to what people are post while I take my time to consider what people are saying and thier ideas. If you have nothing constructive to input to a conversation then you should remove your hands from the keyboard and mouse.

STOP I SAID... Removeth thy handseth frometh the keyboardeth!!!

Because you are only contributing to the problem.

Some of us have intelligent ideas and thoughts to communicate to each other. Which makes me wonder how you can operate a computer much less a keyboard. Oh... of course... anyone can push buttons. But to make them say something inelligent, that requires a thought pattern. Hmmm.. I wonder what that says about you on a personal level.

Hey i am cool 09-21-2001 03:07 AM

gohan, don't even go there.

you were annoying as hell when you first started posting, and you didn't make sense at all. He is making a little sense, though.

The person that starts a thread can delete the one he started, nad re-make it if it is getting full of off-topic stuff.

AlexH 09-21-2001 03:08 AM

its something your just gonna have to deal wit

spam - its happened before, and it will happen again

Im gonna stop posting on this thread now

AlexH 09-21-2001 03:13 AM

Uh, no... The rule is for when moderators delete or close a thread because of stupid stuff, it becomes illegal to make it again. It is legal to delete your own thread and re-start it because of people spamming and going off topic.

hehe
gohan you have just been owned

Qwert616 09-21-2001 03:18 AM

I see no problem with going off topic in a thread. I mean c'mon people are just trying to have some fun. When a thread eventually leads to an off topic conversation is someone supposed to go "Oh wait people! we have to start a new thread in non-related forums". And just stop posting on the thread.

So true:)

draco_iii 09-21-2001 03:25 AM

What I'm talking about deleting is the individual off topic posts. That would maintain the integrity of the thread allowing the main ideas to rise through the muck. But then you would have people deleting messages just because they don't like someone. Which is why the thread owner should be able to have those posts deleted. I know that Graal uses a forum that they themselves don't personally write, so making changes to the code would only mess those things up upon the next update. If they had a way for the thread owner to even mark off topic posts so that the individual could set an option in your account options then if you wanted you could turn off the off topic stuff.

Qwert616 09-21-2001 03:28 AM

I see your point
I myself don't mind the off topic things...there fun actually
but yeah a button to turn it off couldn't hurt.

AlkarenHyralt 09-21-2001 04:31 AM

To do such a thing would take a lot of time, and would greatly annoy the moderators. While moderating and watching over a forum, and it's threads is part of the job they shouldn't have to do that. Nothing would be solved by deleting individual posts, one by one. Also, what is this about allowing the thread starter to delete the individual off-topic posts? Do you realize what would happen? The forums would go straight to hell, you might as well make everyone a super moderator then. People would be deleting threads of everyone they hate, or dislike because they bring up valid points and such, that they don't want anyone to see. Yes, you could change the vBulliten scripts for it to be allowed (I could do it easily, prolly). Also to allow the thread starter to "mark" these off-topic posts would be mere folly also.

Now, I have something to say to that. You might have "intilligent ideas" but obviously not when it comes to message boards. What you have suggested sets off red flags, warning signs, do not pass go, do not collect $200 warnings in the common sense department, which you must lack to make such a suggestion. Please, do not "tax" your brain to come up with ideas for a message board, you lack the sense of how to run one, I'm sure. Also you lack the sense to know what is a good idea, and what is surely the most idiotic idea for a message board, that I have ever seen. If you do not care to see the posts that someone makes weither they be off-topic or not, use the handy-dandy ignore feature, and then unignore them later. It is very simple.
