Head nomenclature suggestion

I think that heads should be named for what they are or famous graalians who use them, not simple numbers...for example, head0.png should be fung-head.png, head25.png or whatever should be zorbi-head.png, and so on. I'll start working on a list of suggested renamings if there's anyone interested out there.

numbers are faster to type rather than long names

smallballn13 09-16-2001 10:05 AM

That would make names too long like swords and shields :((((((

um... what's the point of you spamming?

stupid preteens...

JeffTL 09-16-2001 10:12 AM

I'm not talking naming things like warcaptain-head or zero33devil-head or anything like that...I mean like fung-head for head0.

Butz 09-16-2001 10:19 AM

Head0 is still shorter than fung-head....

I think they should make a sword and shield number system, and make a sword choosing NPC like they have the clothing thing :)

JeffTL 09-16-2001 09:47 PM

head0, five characters
fung-head, nine.

difference, four characters and better mnemonic for those who habitually forget their heads (In my newbie days, I had a bad runin with an NPC that changed my head and I forgot that the head I liked was head 788. After that I remembered it and still know it)

CyanideSR71 09-16-2001 10:23 PM

...
Who would take the time to rename and reupload these names, and who would want to have to find the new name of their heads?

JeffTL 09-17-2001 03:17 AM

I'd be willing to rename the heads, anyone with FTP could upload them en masse (WS-FTP can do that, though it'd take a while), and a list could be published with entries like:

0-fung-head.png
25-zorbi-head.png

and so on.

Merlin 09-17-2001 03:19 AM

that's a dumb idea that will do nothing but make things more complicated

IceHawk 09-17-2001 03:25 AM

Nastazio: that would only cause problems like saying Merlin-Head.gif and having merlin say " THAT IS MY HEAD YOU CANNOT USE IT BLAH BLAH" not that merlin would do that heh;)

Birdbird_0 09-17-2001 03:36 AM

The heads are numbers because they are more orginized and esier to use for npcs. The swords and shields didn't come along that eslily though :(

JeffTL 09-17-2001 05:13 AM

Maybe there could be both...the numbered heads could be kept, but copies would be made to a named format, and all new heads would be processed in both ways. A few New Format heads are already there...zormite.png, vincentheadnew.png, stefan-head.png, mrsbear-head.png, and hoss-head.png. Being as the average head is only a few kilobytes, it wouldn't be but a few extra megabytes and there'd be something for those who prefer a better mnemonic and for those who want to have a quick number.

CyanideSR71 09-17-2001 06:18 AM

Can you say unnecessary waste of space? And that 99% of everyone would use numbers anyway?
