Providence or Graal2001?

Give me my bomy transfered over to providence and I''d switch from 2001 anyday!

starkid99 08-17-2001 10:17 PM

Huh? Can you switch bomys over to other servers?

08-17-2001 10:20 PM

I'm pretty sure Providence is a bomy-free environment.

Nastazio 08-18-2001 12:22 AM

i hope Providence has as good as RP events as old Valkorila did

cohn 08-18-2001 12:25 AM

Am I the only one getting bored of Graal 2001?

no -_-

cohn 08-18-2001 12:32 AM

I don't care for providence that much either. A fun and good quality server is hard to come by these days.

freddyfox 08-18-2001 12:35 AM

Like I've said ten million times before, we're working on it.

I still enjoy G2k1, but I also like providence and I'll probobly help it since my friend, Tyne, runs it.

konidias 08-18-2001 12:42 AM

I will play providence a week or two from now.. I don't like playing servers that just get online because I know that there will be bugs.. and the last thing I want is to go through all the starting trouble, pick my class and start off and then for some reason they have to reset it all.. Just let them work the bugs out and get some user input on levels and such.. it will improve if work is continued.. but if they don't listen to users and they just run the game like its done, providence will slip.

FatherDante 08-18-2001 12:51 AM

In spite of all the buzz providence isn't really ready yet. I'd like to play a server with class(es) as much as the next guy. But... not if there's nothing to do.

cohn 08-18-2001 12:55 AM

I'm not really a fan of classes.

FatherDante 08-18-2001 01:46 AM

I like classes. Anything that makes players more unique.

*raises eyebrow*

"More unique"? Is that not bad English, Mr Dante?

Ha, I've been waiting to do something like that for months. Hey, but what does that Kanji mean?

IceHawk 08-18-2001 01:59 AM

Although I can't script or make graphics, I'll try to help Tyne with it

Yeah, but I can hardly be blamed for my own incompetence.

FatherDante 08-18-2001 03:26 AM

Well, Kaimetsu, my use of the phrase "more unique" although uncommon and perhaps syntactically awkward was indeed grammatically correct.

My avatar says "Dante."
If anyone would like their name written in some form of Japanese script I'd be more than happy to do it for them. And, I do mine by hand, no less!

Grammar schmammer. 'Uniqueness' is a binary value. Nobody can be more unique than anybody else who is unique. I can't have a uniqueness value of 0.8 and say "Ha, you're only 0.6 unique!"

The very word means that there is only one of something. How can I be half unique? It's like being half called Kaimetsu.

Perhaps people can be closer to unique, if there are fewer things identical to them, but not more unique.

ArchOwl 08-18-2001 08:59 PM

can you do Archhibou in japanese?

or whatever ArchOwl is in japanese in kanji?:D

Cloud_X 08-18-2001 09:04 PM

Many thanks Dante you should make like a font hehe

FatherDante 08-18-2001 09:48 PM

You know, Kaimetsu, we've become grammarians. ^_^ I can't believe so many people have argued about this before us.

Usage Note: For many grammarians, unique is the paradigmatic absolute term, a shibboleth that distinguishes between those who understand that such a term cannot be modified by an adverb of degree or a comparative adverb and those who do not. These grammarians would say that a thing is either unique or not unique and that it is therefore incorrect to say that something is very unique or more unique than something else. Most of the Usage Panel supports this traditional view. Eighty percent disapprove of the sentence "Her designs are quite unique in today's fashions." But as the language of advertising in particular attests, unique is widely used as a synonym for worthy of being considered in a class by itself, extraordinary and if so construed it may arguably be modified. In fact, unique appears as a modified adjective in the work of many reputable writers. A travel writer states that “Chicago is no less unique an American city than New York or San Francisco,” for example, and the critic Fredric Jameson writes “The great modern writers have all been defined by the invention or production of rather unique styles.” Although these examples of the qualification of unique are defensible, writers should be aware that such constructions are liable to incur the censure of some readers.

So, I suppose you are more correct, Kaimetsu, although you can see my usage is not unfounded.

08-18-2001 09:54 PM

you guys are so up tight about grammer =\

08-18-2001 10:40 PM

Eek, I'm a grammarian? ...Does that mean I get, like, a special hat or something? :)

Indeed. I always said the same thing until I saw some dude correct himself over it on what I think was the original Titanic film. When I saw you make the same 'mistake', well, it was a dream come true to actually look half-educated in the English language.

It would be great if you could make one of:
"Stylez"
"Romeo2k" (just "Romeo" if numbers are a problem)
