Update: Sure enough, Eurocenter got a little overzealous with their claim -- Rocking Pocket's Blue Skies has had 3GS-specific enhancements for a while now.
Oh well, at least they still got some publicity

Crono 09-12-2009 01:53 PM

Just hope that Graal benefits from their work on the iphone games.

Soala 09-12-2009 02:01 PM

Congrats ^^ ! Looks awesome !

Jcs1919 09-12-2009 02:09 PM

good job ;o

Unkownsoldier 09-12-2009 02:23 PM

Lol it seems that whenever Eurocenter takes the center stage it usually has some defects. I.E. that link just claimed that the company was overzealous rofl.

It's still a major accomplishment. As far as I can tell, Blue Skies isn't 3D.

Anyways, is that Stefan in the avatar? :)

kia345 09-12-2009 05:55 PM

Pretty nice.

And it's not some dime a dozen poker or bejeweled either!

Yes
The press announcement was "First 3GS game with stunning graphics" which is true :)

you can't claim something subjective like "with stunning graphics" is true.

Regardless, nice.

cbk1994 09-12-2009 06:43 PM

I know Stefan has been working quite hard on this lately, congratulations!

EDIT: Here's the press release...

PARIS, September 11 /PRNewswire/ -- In June, Apple released the new
iPhone 3GS, which was said to support advanced graphics in games which would
bring it up to par with PSP and finally make it a real player in the mobile
games department. Until now, however, the only difference to previous iPhone
devices which players have experienced has been slight speed improvement in a
couple of games.
Now, this is changing. Eurocenter, an indy development studio which has
developed several highly awarded online games on iPhone and iPod touch, has
released Adrenaline Golf Online, with full support for the advanced iPhone
3GS graphic extensions. For the first time, players on the iDevices can see
OpenGL shader effects in real time on their device. Adrenaline Golf Online
showcases highly detailed golf courses and features beautiful water
reflection effects throughout the game. The environments include a relaxing
beach atmosphere, Amazon forests mirrored in green water, night scenes with a
reflected moon and a volcano theme including lava.
The developer has revealed some interesting information about the
difficulties of writing an engine that uses the full features of the iPhone
and iPod touch. Unlike games on PC or Mac, the iPhone OpenGL ES 2.0 requires
the developer to write a completely new engine to utilise the new features.
Everything that you know about OpenGL, including camera placement, streaming
object vectors and setting up light effects, needs to be rewritten to
incorporate the new OpenGL shader programs. On top of that, to not lose
compatibility with existing iPhone devices or iPod touch, applications need
to actually support two distinct 3D engines. When the game starts, it detects
which device it is running on, and chooses the appropriate engine.
Besides the stunning graphics, Eurocenter also used its experience in
online games to provide a unique gaming experience. In Adrenaline Golf
Online, players can compete worldwide against other players, collect stars
and send bonuses to other players much like in Mario Kart. Players can
compete in 72 completely different courses and play in a realistic 3D
environment which features a real-time physics engine to support moving
platforms, cannons and other obstacles.

Congratz.

fowlplay4 09-12-2009 07:13 PM

Do FF7 next, with OGL2 shaders on the 3GS, you'll be rich!

Darlene159 09-12-2009 07:20 PM

Nice, congrats! :)

It's the people that could be working on graal :D

Twinny 09-13-2009 03:36 PM

Crazy question but when are these games gonna be added to the Games Server in Graal? Isn't that the kind of server that would really benefit from these types of small multiplayer games?

Nataxo 09-13-2009 06:19 PM

Nice! I'll look for it on my itouch to see if I can purchase it. (or download demo first)

Mark Sir Link 09-13-2009 06:29 PM

does the golf program use a similar physics engine to billiards on Graal?

Elk 09-13-2009 06:46 PM

These games are developed for the iPhone platform ;)
and I doubt you will be able to play with iPhoners as you'd have an advantage as PC player

That's fine. Keep them on separate networks but this is the kinda stuff i'd expect on the games server. Extend it further by allowing players to play these games on their relevant servers.

Be sweet to be able to do matchmaking and vs other players in other servers whilst being in your home server.

If you were unixmad/Stefan, would you be focusing on Graal, where you can make minimal profit, or on iPhone applications where there is way more potential? They've already had several successful applications (and likely made a lot of money); it only makes sense from a business perspective to continue to pursue them.

However, I do hope we aren't abandoned completely .

Nataxo 09-15-2009 04:36 AM

:o:o just tried the demo, Seems like a fun game. Best thing: you can play online!

But still it isnt my kind of game :s

jkool666 09-15-2009 05:20 AM

Extremely impressive, nice work Stefan.

Switch 09-15-2009 05:26 AM

Congrats on the game.
One thing I don't approve of from Eurocenter:

Quit the bull, or am I completely wrong and require an example? And would it kill to actually have some way for those interested to contact you to license QuattroPlay, or even update that site it's on from 2+ years ago?

MagikMasterMind 09-15-2009 05:29 AM

Impressive. I might get it ASAP. 

This is a special offer for TV-settop boxes. Most of our iPhone games and Graal are working on such boxes. There is a big market for that especially in France, although often the providers want full rights which we cannot accept.
The website could sometime be updated to talk more about the iPhone games but it's not that important right now.

BTW: we have released a new game, Cocoto Kart Online :)

The game is from Neko Entertainment, unixmad had some contacts over there and Stefan ported it over to the iPhone from Playstation and added a multiplayer mode.

Elk 10-05-2009 05:39 PM

reminds me of Banjo Kazooi or so

Gos_pira 10-05-2009 05:42 PM

Reminds me of Mario Kart 64
