Graal for Mac Beta

The beta testing stage of the new Graal client for Mac has started. This is the latest version of the client which features external windows, new script features and fixes and is optimized for Intel processors (which will make the client much faster and less laggy on newer Macs).

If you are interested in taking part in the beta test process, please forum PM me or email skyld at graalonline dot com with your account name and PC ID. I can then authorise you and send you the disk image with the new client in. If you don't know your PC ID, don't worry. I can still send you the client and you will be told your PC ID when you try to log in with it.

If you have been using the old PowerPC client on an Intel Mac, your PC ID will likely be different anyway so again, don't worry about sending it. The client will tell you your new PC ID which you can ask me to approve. You might also need to get this new PC ID added to your RC rights on any server that you have RC access.

There are three clients: a 64-bit version for Intel Core 2 processors, a 32-bit version for Intel Core processors and a 32-bit version for PowerPC processors. All three are contained in the disk image, so you can use the one that is most relevant to your computer configuration.

There's also a readme included in the download package. Please don't ignore it! It contains useful information.

The client isn't perfect, and will have a few bugs or problems. Please report any bugs you find either directly to me by email or forum PM, or by posting in http://forums.graalonline.com/forums...ad.php?t=85509. Please make sure to state whether you are using "Graal Intel 64", "Graal Intel 32" or "Graal PowerPC 32" with your bug report.

Thanks, and enjoy!

The Windows beta client is significantly more buggy than the current Mac and Linux beta client so it will be some more time before it is released to beta.

A Linux beta client will hopefully be sorted soon.

Nice

Unkownsoldier 07-18-2009 10:31 PM

I don't care if windows is buggy, it can't be worse then the current client.

Inverness 07-18-2009 11:05 PM

Why is the Windows client more buggy?

Vman13x 07-18-2009 11:20 PM

Nice, Im gonna try it out.

define this amount of time.

like 3~5 users here on the forums have a mac, and the rest of us use windows. windows DOMINATES as the OS choice for so many people. Why is the windows client so much more buggy :(...

I don't know the exact details - I rarely use the Windows client - but Stefan told me it was buggier and will need more work first.

I don't know exactly, Stefan's input would be needed here.

Thanks for the notice, provided our patience is paper thin, I guess it's for the better rather than going through the horrors of a significantly bugged release.

Mac Beta Client but still no RC eh? o.o

Admins 07-19-2009 02:09 AM

The scripted RC works better in the new Mac version, it's in a separate window and stuff.

I like stuff, what kind of stuff?

Admins 07-19-2009 02:23 PM

Well, GuiMLTextCtrl is much faster, so editing of scripts is better. Also the client can use timestamps, so the file browser can display the file time.

Unkownsoldier 07-20-2009 12:54 AM

So Stefan, do you have an estimated time until the beta of the Windows?

Admins 07-22-2009 09:27 PM

The Windows version is making progress, it's now completely C++, all memory leaks have been fixed (bugs in VisualC++), started to re-add Flash support (using Firefox plugin). There is still quite a lot of work to do (particles, input, opengl etc.) so I cannot give a time yet.

Vman13x 07-23-2009 01:57 AM

Is anyone else having the same problem as me? The powerpc mac beta wont open for me. Ive already spoken to skyld, but I wanna know if anyone else is having the problem.

Click the Apple, go to "About this Mac". What kind of system do you have?

Does it say the program is not made to run on your architecture (when you try to open Graal) or does it just close or something?

fowlplay4 07-23-2009 05:24 AM

So is this v5.2 or 6?

Right now I believe it's version 5.x, but I can't check. I'm guessing it'll be version 6 by the time it gets released.

Of course, and on that note I'm extremely pleased with Windows 7. :p But this is Graal development, not Windows development.

Are you using Visual Studio (or Visual C++ Express) to develop the Windows client? I don't want to see DLL problems like there were in the past with previous version; problems that Visual Studio alleviate.

I would also like it if Graal was Vista (and 7) compatible, meaning that the Graal executable could be installed into Program Files directory and downloaded content and per-user settings would go into the proper folders in your user's directory.

Code::Blocks > Visual c++

I meant to ask, are you running Tiger or Leopard?

You're not in any position to be deciding which IDE is better.

It is, meaning it's correctly installing itself into a user directory and storing data there. We won't mess with the NTFS shadowing stuff. The exe is only 2.x MByte so I don't think that it is a problem.

Well we have npcservers running for more than a half year without restart and not having any memory leak, also a linux graal client running for 3 months without memory leak. We are regulary checking new versions with tools to make sure there is no memory leak or uninitialized variables or similar. The only case where there can be memory leaks is when there is some bad sound or gfx driver, the operating system, or some script messing things up in a way that is not protected.
