Battle of the Bands

Note: Battle of the Bands will be on Sunday, May 3rd, not May 2nd as was previously announced.

You can now rent instruments until May 10th at the Comic Club. As of right now, this is only temporary; eventually, a real renting scheme will be implemented.

These instruments are mainly to be used for Battle of the Bands, but you do not have to participate in that in order to rent an instrument.

Come down to Comic Club for more information!

--

Battle of the Bands! Enter this contest with your friends for a chance to win big! Battle of the Bands will take place on Sunday, May 3rd at about 3 PM EST. There is a $3,500 sign up fee. If you choose to sign up, you will receive no refund for any reason, even if you are offline or do not win. If some band members are offline, you can choose to forfeit or play without them to the best of your ability.

Your performance can last no longer than five minutes. We would prefer if performances were 1-3 minutes long. You can participate by yourself or in a group. There is a maximum limit of five people per band/group. Each band member can be in only one group. Once you add band members, they will have to accept. If they refuse, you will not be able to get a refund, so please pick wisely and talk to them first!

To sign up, create a band, & invite members visit "Chedda Cheez", the Battle of the Bands NPC representative outside of the gun shop by unstick me. Special prizes will be given to the winners of the event. And no I won't tell you what it is!

Good luck to everyone.

When there is someone to compete against. :asleep:

Frankie 04-30-2009 03:12 PM

it's a cool concept but it would be even cooler if people play actual original writings instead of "OMG LOOK AT ME I CAN PLAY THE MARIO THEME."

Pelikano 04-30-2009 03:22 PM

I hope the prize won't be something overpowered, I rellay hope so.

Frankie 04-30-2009 03:26 PM

a non-pk oriented event calls for a non-pk oriented prize. that's how I see it.

Nataxo 04-30-2009 03:30 PM

someone lend me an instrument

TheMaestro 04-30-2009 04:19 PM

Someone should totally play the Pokemon Theme Song.

CharlieM 04-30-2009 06:17 PM

I agree 100 [percent].

This isn't Battle of the Cover Bands.

And as for the prize, I have a feeling it's going to be one of the unreleased instruments they've been working on.

BlueMelon 04-30-2009 10:15 PM

I won my piano concert mom look what i won! "Takes out a gun"

rofl xD
Yah really hope the prize is non-pk able

Hopefully someone wins an Award for being great at playing pre-made tunes with a computer keyboard. Come on, seriously. Battle of the Bands on Graal? lol.

Ever heard of techno, electronic, eurodance, trance, ambient, breakbeat, or synthpop music? It's a lot more popular than you think.

Thanatoses 05-01-2009 02:21 AM

I'm black, that should answer that question. And, I personally think playing an instrument irl is a burdon, I play era for entertainment, I don't think anything burdoning is entertaining, unless I'm getting paid. No one is going to pay me for playing a digital contra bass.

I don't find playing instruments a burden, I find it relaxing and fun, hence why I can play several.

No one is forcing you to attend Battle of the Bands (though you don't really have a choice). The majority of players have liked these instruments and events.

Thanatoses 05-01-2009 02:27 AM

When I want to relax, I'll call a lady and hit the movies or toss on the playoffs. Not blow my lungs into oblivion or bang my fingers on something.

I never intended to, lol. The players like anything for the first week to month of its release, as you'll soon find out seeing as you haven't been around so long.

Trick is finding something to keep them busy for longer.

CharlieM 05-01-2009 02:45 AM

Instruments are fun to do when not pking they are mainly only popular with people who don't have the best pk ability, who want to master something

Thanatoses 05-01-2009 03:19 AM

Counterproductive to play a PK-Based server and not intend to pk. If you want to play an instrument, buy one or dl a program

Many would say that Era is not a PK-based server, and if it is now, perhaps it can change.

CharlieM 05-01-2009 03:44 AM

What if we want a pk server

"You" is not "we".

A lot of people seem to enjoy the instruments; plus, can we not have a PK server and instruments, or is that too horrible?

I find it pretty low that EC's statue was replaced with the dumb battle of the bands NPC. at least add it back after the event. you could of just stuck it in a different location, but I guess you just had to have that particular spot

Ohhhhhh. It's Squirt with an afro. My god, that's comedic genious.

Before I was upset with them replacing the statue with a sign up NPC that could have been placed in a multitude of places other than the exact spot where EC's statue was, but now that I realize it's funny (squirt with an afro lol)...I feel like such a fool.

I'm a beast at the acoustic guitar. Ask my about my special xnbmq chord.

We're all sad about EC, but the statue has been up for what, two months now? Did you think it was going to be permanent?

Nataxo 05-01-2009 09:55 PM

I agree with Chris.

if I remember correctly, you weren't even on the staff team when his statue was put up, yet you're going on about how it was never supposed to be permanent. big bad dev admin Chris Vimes after 2 weeks of being staff on Era decides EC only deserves a statue for 2 months. I totally forgot who I was dealing with here!

point being, the statue wasn't harming anybody. was there really a reason to remove it? you honestly think that the statue was there too long and needed to be deleted? it wasn't in the way, didn't really bother anyone (if it did I don't see why..) it was a nice little memorial for EC who was a great person and a great player/staff member. you went out of your way to remove it to replace it with Squirt with an afro when you could of placed that BotB NPC anywhere else at unstick me. quite sad honestly.

ontopic: I think Monty's band seems promising. I hope he wins.

Nataxo 05-01-2009 10:35 PM

Of course it doesnt hurt anybody Frankie, but the fact that you have the statue of a player in the game looks unproffesional.

I really dont want Era to become a mausoleum

Frankie 05-01-2009 10:51 PM

a statue placed in front of a building is unprofessional? there are plenty of statues of people in cities all around this world. how is that unprofessional?

have you been in the ET house? they have statues of past ET admins FFS. they don't even have statues for past managers. ET admins clearly are more important though.

also, I'm not sure what instrument I should play in BotB

EC had a huge impact on Era.

Remembering the life of a person who meant a great deal to a large majority of the servers is unprofessional? First of all, you can have a soul and be professional.
Secondly, let me get this straight:
A statue/sculpture (a form of fine arts that's been recognized and included in many professional works throughout history) memorial of a deceased player isn't professional.

But a ridiculous, afro-wearing bloke playing a triangle is professional?

And for the record, since when the hell has Graal ever been professional?

Do you think staff teams built entirely from the PLAYER-base is professional?
Graphics of all styles, levels of quality, and perspectives is professional?

Using archaic methods such as staff blocks instead of automated server messages (if it was important, just ping it everytime someone logs in?) is professional?

Staff players wandering around unstick me showing off a variety of spawned/unavailable/in progress weapons/instruments/etc. is professional?

Useless mass messages from staff members pertaining to inside jokes that happen on RC chat is professional? (That's not happening so much anymore, thank god. I've only seen it once or twice in quite some time)

The list could go on and on. Bottom line: Even if you disagree with my view of professional, don't try to undermine the value of a lost life by acting as if a memorial is some kind of petty eyesore or annoyance.

What, do you want to get rid of graveyards in real life, too? They're wasting prime real estate space. How unprofessional.

I'm really excited to play the piano at battle of the bands. werty werty ytr ytr werty

Nataxo 05-01-2009 11:07 PM

then don't propose an argument based on being unprofessional on a game if you're just going to counter it with "it's just a game."

this just in, I might be playing the drums in the event. my friends helped me decide :D

now it's

Which is it?

I wish everyone the greatest amount of luck in the virtual instrument contest dubbed "Battle of the 'Bands'". :]

You remember incorrectly, I'd been on the staff team for at least a month at that point.

No, it wasn't harming anybody, but why leave it there?

I did not remove it so I'd have a place to put the Battle of the Bands signup. It had already been removed; it wasn't even myself who removed it to be honest. It simply disappeared when I updated the GMAP as it should have, and I happened to place the Battle of the Bands NPC there.

I didn't say it wasn't professional, so I guess you're talking to Nataxo, but the statue still exists elsewhere. I don't see any reason to leave it at unstick for eternity.
Quote:

Again, I didn't say that, but it's somewhat of a fun joke. The only reason people don't like it, in my opinion, is because it "replaced" the EC memorial.

Those who would say era is not a PK-Based server obviously haven't played Era or no nothing about it. Doesn't take much analysis to conclude that,
and not if the Instrumental is given more importance than the PK-Aspect.

My opinion, if you all want to play instrument, build a server for it. Don't re-focus an already an established server.

EC died, I didn't like the fella. Rest in peace, making a controversy of whether or not he receives a statue is idiotic. He made no more of an impact on era than $Swifty G$, even if he did. Chrisz, Zorg and etc didn't get a statue, why should he? No one should get rewarded for dying, its a natual part of life. He's gone, let him go, nothing controversial should happen over him. Regardless of what, he's not here... nor does it affect him.

Battle of the Bands thing (ew)
