Zone Forum Rules: What's up with this?

A quote from the new forum rules.

Do not post abbreviations, or your post will be deleted.

This is a joke...right?

Supernanny I admire your attempts to make the Zone forums an overall more satisfactory experience but things are becoming a bit...soviet. I mean honestly, who the hell is going to think that BRB stands for 'Be ready to bat'? That is probably worse than the no-outside-links-allowed-or-you-will-be-shot rule.

Relax a little. There isn't even a purposeful meaning to back up these extreme measures, if the forum was in a state of becoming out of hand as it had done in the past when I was a moderator, I just pushed my tolerance to 0 until it calmed down again.

Oh and please refrain from becoming trigger happy and deleting this thread spouting something out along the lines of 'Forum PM moderators if you have an issue with the moderation system'. Please, don't patronize me or the Zone community as a whole.

he did this because i said QFT

and he thought it meant quit effing talking

but i meant quoted for truth

so now hes making up all these different meanings for abbreviations like brb and stuff...

He did it because abbreviations can mean many things, and sometimes it is hard to tell. It's not hard to spell out a word.

I do agree, though, that abbreviations such as BRB, and AFK should be ok.

Crono 10-14-2008 09:07 PM

Nice, nice.

xAzerothx 10-14-2008 09:07 PM

Guys I think Supernanny is AFK.

Elizabeth 10-14-2008 09:08 PM

from what he told me, he said that the other meaning for qft was used more often- yet i'd never even heard of that meaning, and i dont think many people have?

I have.

jkool666 10-14-2008 09:11 PM

Well I can see what hes saying, for example I had absolutely no idea what QFT meant. But I think some abbreviations are pretty obvious. But really, what abbreviations are used on the forums other then...
tbh = to be honest
qft = quoted for truth, I think I can see another meaning for this, is it something to do with homosexuality?
brb = be right back
atm = at the moment
afk = away from keyboard
And brb/afk I've never really seen used lol.

*Opens mouth* -Wait...I don't really know what to add to what has already been said. Anyway, my point has been made clear, the moderation is becoming a little too extreme. Could we get this ridiculous rule removed?

DustyPorViva 10-14-2008 09:19 PM

Wow... abbreviations are pretty universal on the internet and while some people can skew them to other meanings you hardly ever see that happen. And when you weren't too sure, instead of making assumptions you simply asked.

Again, wow. Sorry man, but this is the worse thing I have ever seen on any forums. Ever. The only thing that tops it is the explanation for why it is even a rule.

Shadow5596321 10-14-2008 09:26 PM

Wow, i wouldn't even make a retarded decision like this.

Atleast look at the CONTEXT of how the abbreviation(s) is used. Your just being plain out lazy.

SN you deserve and epic fail.

Elizabeth 10-14-2008 09:28 PM

keep in mind this rule was added because i said qft yesterday, and a big deal was made about it.

Doesn't make it any more right though, I bet some people say the same about the Unabomber or various other terrorists. :rolleyes:
Yeah yeah, I might have exaggerated a bit with the comparison

Keep in mind I want as much attention from this as possible!

It escalated far and beyond you just saying "qft" so stop playing innocent. SN wouldn't do something like this if he didn't feel he had good reason to.

That or he wanted to feel a bit more important by deleting posts. It's a bull**** rule and you know that.

As I said, SN would not have made it if he did not have a good reason for doing so. Maybe you should send him a Forum PM and ask him what prompted him to make such a rule?

Elizabeth 10-14-2008 11:22 PM

maybe he should have forum pmed me first instead of deleting my post right away, and asking me what i meant by qft

He doesn't have to. If he views it as against the rules he is fully within his rights to act accordingly.

If he deletes something his isn't sure about, He should contact Jesse or you. If Jesse or you didn't know, You should ask Sam or Darlene.

I'm sorry Darlene, but really?
You'd go as far to defend a ludicrous position like this?

And no we aren't pushing it, because the moment we let our guard down someone is going to find a way to crush us like a bug.
If we don't make it perfectly clear that the players will not stand for complete ******** rules, it's only going to happen again, and again, and again, and again.

Re-read her post, he had no idea if it was against the rules and promptly **** his pants, deleted it, and THEN asked questions.

Guilty until proven innocent.
Shoot first ask questions later.

Shall I go on?

Yes, please. As a moderator he can do such things, but don't act like he's all powerful.

You know very well you could contact Darlene about it or make a thread like this and it would be handled, as this thread proves.

The players objected to the rule, so Darlene saw your side and changed it.

Please don't try and play the victim card on me.

Two things:
I'm not playing a victim card, I'm merely making a statement that the users of this forums are always getting the short end of the stick (the EXTREMELY short end of the stick, a splinter in many cases) and that we're constantly battling to make sure we keep that last bit of freedom we have left.

And second, that part of the post was not intended for you, the part I'm talking specifically to you about is under your quote. Respond to that please.
