dev updates

so, I've re-scripted the HUD and the Inventory, all working fine! [Need to add some more display stuff to the inventory though, but other than that it's done]

The items are all on new Era, need to re-do the guns part. [Doing this part last, it'll be some-what fun for me!]

I'll be working on the overworld stuff now, however I'm wondering if you'd like a training kind of world, or to just add newbie protection back that lasts for a few hours, i am thinking the protection. Your suggestions?

Should be done on the flower stuff tonight, maybe with item digging too ^^ ^^

cbk1994 09-26-2008 06:09 PM

Training world.

Look, I have a halo over my head, and people can't hurt me! I'm going to go punch people, since I can't figure out how to make money. Wtf, I lost my halo??!?!?!?

Bell 09-26-2008 06:23 PM

Training world, although I thought Vulcan was working on one of those last week.

[email protected] 09-26-2008 06:28 PM

oh this is for new era, no idea on old one ^^

I could modify the current newbie protection though, although the training world may be better i suppose

Sage_Shadowbane 09-26-2008 06:44 PM

I wouldn't make a whole seperate world just for training, but instead.. if possible make a tutorial on the gmap if possible. Like if a new player logs on, they have to do certain tasks in order to remove their halo. (Obviously there should be a command to skip this for the not so new players.) This would be a way to direct players in where to go and how to do things. (Example would be they have to goto the flower shop and pick a few flowers, make a bouquet, than buy something with the money they make, perhaps a drill or something?) I dunno, just throwing some ideas out there.

natchez416 09-26-2008 07:07 PM

some kind of training world. or some kind of tutorial in the main world.

Frankie 09-26-2008 08:32 PM

it's going to be funny when we get the people that keep changing PCIDs and hacking and will have to keep redoing the tutorial each time they want to come back on the main world, rofl.

DuBsTeRmAn 09-26-2008 08:42 PM

Oui! Would be cool.. And Sparbots ;o

No.

Don't force people to go through a start tutorial, classic does it and it helps kill the playercount.

Honestly, that's kind of true. I logged on Atrius a couple of days ago and you had to go through the tutorial. I instantly logged off after the first couple of parts and came back three days later to finish it.

I'm guessing that causes problems, since a staff member asked, "did you finish the tutorlia?" when I couldn't be hit.

[email protected] 09-27-2008 06:49 PM

wouldn't it be their fault? :p

Sage_Shadowbane 09-29-2008 04:49 AM

That would be why I suggested the part where you could skip it. Eg: Player logs on and NPC says "If you would like to skip this tutorial, say "i hate tutorials".

Kneegro 10-03-2008 04:26 AM

Perhaps you get something for completing the tutorial? : ]

Shotoo2 10-03-2008 04:30 AM

a free handgun with no ammo

Yocas 10-03-2008 04:32 AM

I would say reward them around $50 so they can buy tools. Any more than that and they'll just log on trials to do the tutorial for free money.

Kneegro 10-03-2008 04:50 AM

Sounds hot. Who knows if players will constantly make accounts and do the tutorial to collect up on the prize rofl.

You can make $50 in thirty seconds on Era. No one is going to bother making trial accounts to do the tutorial.

xAzerothx 10-03-2008 05:27 AM

Completing the tutorial should give you a handgun, a clip of ammo, and $50 to get yourself started.

Yet I see new players running around asking for money even when they know exactly how to make money. : [

Exactly. And if worst comes to worst, make it an EC since those can't be dropped or traded.

CharlieM 10-03-2008 01:42 PM

How about just give them the items not money

Hm, if it were to be an item I would probably say a melee weapon.

Frankie 10-03-2008 07:54 PM

giving them an uzi wouldn't be bad.. honestly, a HG won't hold up these days. an uzi with like 5 boxes of ammo would be nice. the tutorial could teach them how to equip it and load the ammo, and they basically just keep it.

DuBsTeRmAn 10-04-2008 02:51 PM

I would say.. Give them a Shovel, An uzi with 5 ammo packs and they can start with becoming rich?

Yocas 10-04-2008 04:11 PM

I would say give them a choice on what start pack to choose from; like:

Self-defense starter pack:
- x1 Uzi
- x5 boxes of uzi ammo
- x1 Armor kit

Work force starter pack:
- Shovel
- Drill
- $50

Balanced starter pack:
- x1 Handgun
- x2 boxes of handgun ammo
- $30

But people would just log on other accounts to have all sets.

I'm sure it could be scripted so that they can't be traded away. Otherwise it'd be stupid.

Would need to give them dupping for dummies along with the handbook to scamming.
