What happened

... to make Cyberjoueurs stop using these little gems? They were by far the nicest of the Graal logos to date, and the older Graal client start screens using this looked awesome too. :(

Bell 04-21-2008 10:12 PM

Now those look like Graal!

Dan 04-21-2008 10:16 PM

Would look nice to see the left snapshot as some sort of serverlist :D

Galdor 04-21-2008 10:16 PM

yea those are the best, I dont like the "new" logo and website.

xAzerothx 04-21-2008 10:16 PM

Graal isn't massively multiplayer when only 500 people play.

This doesn't change the fact that the logo rocks.

kia345 04-21-2008 10:21 PM

This isn't Graal anymore. Even back in v3 things looked good. Now everything, the website, the serverlist, the task bar, the icons; none of it looks like Graal anymore.

Don't you think it's more up to the guy drawing the logos to decide what Graal looks like though? Graal may look like this to you, but apparentally not for the guy designing all of the recent stuff.

Green does look a lot cooler then Blue though.

I wouldn't even think "Graal" when I saw this stuff if it didn't say Graal in big letters.

cbk1994 04-21-2008 10:53 PM

The website sucks, I think we can all agree on that.

xXziroXx 04-22-2008 12:30 AM

Old Graal looked, and felt, way better then new Graal. Problem is, only players see this.

Stephen 04-22-2008 12:57 AM

Graal doesn't consider branding (consistent logo use) because they're oblivious to that sort of stuff. I doubt they realize how damaging it is to use 17 different logos and styles.

Yes, I've always noticed there is really no consistent feel for Graal. Originally green, but now we've got this ugly Login screen, and then the ugly website, and then the ugly Toon theme, and then the ugly support center.

None of it matches.

Especially since v4 it's gotten worse.

Also, the first image in this thread, I'm assuming 2001, actually looks amazing. It doesn't have that generic cartoon/flash game feel that Graal has now.

At least this old stuff resembled the game.

DustyPorViva 04-22-2008 04:30 AM

Ya... I miss the old stuff :(
I think Graal is the only place I've ever seen that has made green work. Why go to all this fruity crappy colors?

Graal reminds me of all these commercials I see these days on TV with rap in them--trying way too hard to be 'cool'.

You know, we're not saying this stuff because we want to screw you over... it's the truth, the new site looks terrible. Oh, and not to mention it's horrible to navigate.

Programmer 04-22-2008 04:31 AM

I call dibs on remaking the site.

I agree strongly with the navigation. If you're a new player, you have no idea what playerworlds, kingdoms, etc are. There should be one site, not multiple sites. And that one site should have information about the types (playerworlds, zone, kingdoms, etc)

Unixmad said he knew this about a month after the new website was uploaded. I guess you've got to get your moneys worth (lol.. if it was paid for.. lol..) and use it for a while. No mention of a new site though, but it's probably best to look forward than to use up old work.

He chose bread over a new, nice website.

Was the new website even really necessary? It looked fine before, there was need to change it. If anything, it should've went back to its older looks.

Can't we just consider this true for almost ALL criticism directed toward Graal?

I mean... I don't constantly complain about GK by some motive of wanting to "screw over" Graal. I just want to play the damn game and have fun :(

Door 04-22-2008 10:20 PM

It would be nice if the word 'consistency' meant anything to our lovelies in charge, but as far as I can tell, it doesn't. At least nothing important, anyway. There's this amazing thing called marketing psychology, it deals with all sorts of issues like product recognition and the mere exposure effect. If any sort of consideration was put into Graal dealing with these things at all, we'd do so much better as a game.

It's actually laughable how much the way this game is run actually works against the potential of the game. It's kinda like watching someone try to fly a sailboat like a kite so they can somehow harness wind power.

Nice to see nothing's changed in the years I've been gone though.

lol @ bread joke

kia345 04-22-2008 10:55 PM

It offended me greatly that he puts more value on bread, a very cheap food, than he does on Graal

I have to agree with you there.

LOL

Inverness 04-23-2008 12:47 AM

I really do prefer the old Graal look.

I'm sure curious to see what you (all?) can come up with :)

Pimmeh 04-23-2008 12:30 PM

We had that contest before, and as I recall it I thought that...
Cant recall his name...
Cythus? He made one hell of a logo!

It offended me greatly that he thought paying for bread (which is most likely freshly baked, if he's buying it daily like he said) is parallel to us paying for Graal. Graal is more like stale bread.

I'm surprised Stefan, Darlene, or unixmad haven't unnecessarily deleted this thread yet for what they call "bashing"

Yea right, the GermanKr3w takes everything at face value. "Oh, you made us a webpage? Fantastic. What - you did it as part of an ongoing relationship with our business? Nonsense, what's that now? You're disgruntled? WE'LL SEE WHO HAS THE LAST LAUGH"

It's nonsense.

If people say that they don't like the style of the website then it's ok for me, although I don't agree. Many people are stuck to the old, and don't accept new stuff, but that doesn't mean that the old stuff should be kept. It's better to see what is good in the old stuff and then take that and build something new and exciting.

Deleting a thread will only make people complain even more. Of course there are limits.

kia345 04-23-2008 10:54 PM

If you get rid of the old, and bring up something new that the majority doesn't like, the old would've been better to keep.

Just because something is new doesn't make it good. We're not "stuck on the old" we just hate this crap.

DustyPorViva 04-23-2008 11:03 PM

It's not about being stuck on the old. It's about the new being ugly, and hard to navigate.
Also, it's been said... consistency helps a game. Changing everything every time a version comes out only kills the game and is a waste of resources and time.

cbk1994 04-24-2008 12:45 AM

That website looks like it is designed for a 7 year old.

Most of Graal is teenagers and above!

There is no way that site would appeal to someone who is lie 16.

xXziroXx 04-24-2008 01:03 AM

The problem with the current website, and Graal's design in general, is that it has lost the essence of Graal.

I agree, but even if they can't understand this, they need to understand that

1. It doesn't appeal to Graal's target audience, unless they are now targeting to 6 year olds
2. It's hard to navigate -- if you're new, you have no idea what the hell Zone or Playerworlds are.
3. Not consistent; there are like three different websites for some reason! Just make one and have a page about it.
4. Confusing-- it makes you think that you have to download either Zone, GK, or Playerworlds and you can only play one.

kia345 04-24-2008 01:26 AM

To Stefan to report to Unix: Let's keep childish things on Fairyland, ight? We're a tad more mature here. I'm not asking for a gory website, but these cutesy bubble letters aren't gonna fly if you want to rake in decent Graal players rather then people of Zone's calibur on every server

It's not a matter of sticking with the old, Stefan. People's taste are maturing - and I don't mean your current players... I mean youth as a WHOLE. Just look at how popular the iPod is, the sleek interface, simplicity, and well designed shell are what sell it - otherwise, it's just a MP3 player. I'm sure there are a lot more colorful or youthful MP3 players out there.

Besides, there's a fantastic saying... "Keep It Simple, Stupid" or "K.I.S.S." - the webpage doesn't have to be a ajax fest or flash feast. Just a NICE design that's SIMPLISTIC and easy to use in it's nature. I'm not saying you need a new webpage now - but you could let me work on your GUI stuff. I'd whip this ***** into shape in no time and I know that for a fact.

I know you are waiting for him to acknowledge you, and probably offer you some kind of reward - but if it were me I'd just do it, show it off, and let it convince him instead of waiting.

We're always waiting.

I'm sick of waiting.

GO. DO.

But hey, you might not be motivated. I dunno. I couldn't keep people interested in a teamspeak server to collaborate on, because they didn't care about collaborating.
