No more.

After 10 years, Graal is no longer fun. The game has lost its edge.

Graal Kingdoms was ruined the moment the mudlib was used.
Zodiac is a grind-fest. If I wanted to grind on a game, I'd play some other game.
Zone isn't worth $50 a year. The game that Zone mimics is a ton better and is now completely free to play.
Graal2001 was the WORST when it came to grinding. It never got you anything more than some cosmetic items. All it had going for it was the community.
Graal: The Adventure is gone. The cheap knock-off they have going now just doesn't have the right feel.
Era was going great until a crap ton of guns that took way too much time to get came into the server.
Elven Lands, Sanstrata, and other servers that I can't remember the names of... very much like the original Graal, they were fun.

If you want Graal to have a good player count, Graal needs to become fun again. Grinding is not fun. Working is not fun. Being left in the dust because you can't dedicate 8 hours a day to being on Graal is not fun. Being left in the dust because someone is more skilled at the game is not fun. Knowing how to fix the entirety of Graal and being ignored because everyone is brainwashed by what the staff says is not fun.

Graal is not fun and I don't see any reason why I should stay. Goodbye. Sorry to all those I'm leaving behind.

Tigairius 01-25-2008 08:35 AM

Good bye, Ed, it was fun playing GK with you.

Exactly when didn't GK (g2k2) use the mudlib?

Going to fix this.

Goodbye Ed.

Horrified 01-25-2008 02:04 PM

If you know how to "fix" graal and make something that's fun, I don't see why you didn't just make a playerworld...

Because that's just a waste of money with the possibility of it never going hosted/classic? Just a thought

Anyways cya later guy.

In the very early stages, it didn't seem like they used it.

I didn't like the terms and conditions.

cyan3 01-25-2008 05:15 PM

Bye Ed :)

Pimmeh 01-25-2008 05:54 PM

Ed, dont evade the question, HOW were you gonna "fix" graal?

They didn't use the mudlib at the very early stages of 2k2, you're right.
It was implemented like a few months after GK was.

I was not going to fix Graal. I said that I know how to fix Graal.

Graal needs to be fun again. It doesn't need to be a number based grind-fest. It doesn't need a complex job system. It doesn't need item collection methods that take hours. Graal needs to focus more on the fun factor aspect.

Take Graal Kingdoms for example. USDing only became a problem because it became more worthwhile to spend a few hours working IRL to get real money to buy items instead of grinding in the game for like 50 hours for in game currency for the same item. Scamming only became a problem because it was worth the reputation hit for that rare item. And FFS, stop sitting in the illusion of RPing. The staff don't put any effort into making new content because you guys sit there and burn up Gold time typing emotes to each other instead of pushing for more content. I can sit in a ****ing AIM chat room and RP just the same as I would in GK.

Zodiac is a great example of a grind-fest.
Era is a great example of long hours of item collection.

Graal is a game. If I'm spending more time working than playing in a game, why should I keep playing?

DustyPorViva 01-25-2008 08:29 PM

Heh, I remember that, the double slot(S/D) equips.... fun!

Ok, so you know. How come Classic isnt fun anymore? How come N-Pulse isnt fun anymore?

Horrified 01-25-2008 10:09 PM

What, in your mind, makes a game fun?

Almost EVERY game requires HOURS of SOMETHING tedious to finally get a large sum of gold or whatever. The majority of Graal (read: Zodiac) COMPLETELY COPIES OTHER MMO's. Yen said so himself, that a lot of the stuff he did was complete rips from games like WoW.

Is what 2D is what makes the game suck? Then why did you SIGN UP in the first place? Why did you PAY MONEY to say a game sucks? What's wrong with you? And don't say "I upgraded back then," because you're talking about GRAAL KINGDOMS which requires pay by itself every year.

And, what the hell makes you so slick, that you can say "I KNOW HOW TO FIX GRAAL," when you can barely create a decent example of what is wrong with the game in the first place. Almost EVERY game requires endless grinding, tedious item collecting, at least in MMO's. And complaining that those that don't have those need Skill, the only thing you COULD BE PROUD OF in online games, that you can get 2000+ rate in the 2D sparring? You're making a blatant cry for attention, you even LOGGED BACK ON THE FORUMS to continue to complain.

You suck in so many ways I had to use capitals, multiple times, because it'd be too much to bold. That is a real ****ing low.

MasterNuke 01-25-2008 10:14 PM

I didn't want to point out those two servers.

The changes to Classic using GS2 make it feel very uncomfortable and sluggish.
Last time I played N-Pulse, any sort of action was obscure and hard to find.

Knightmare1 01-25-2008 10:16 PM

What is this, free zone?

What makes a game fun depends entirely on how the game was designed.

I stayed around for the community.

Pretty much any real gamer can see the flaws of this game.

Stop making assumptions about me.

And, just because I quit the game doesn't mean I have to quit the community. YOU'RE POSTING IN MY THREAD FFS.

"real gamer"? You're one of those asses, who somehow think they are better then everyone else? And the community is pretty bad, but you seem to fit in pretty well.

I make assumptions because what you show me is what I assume.

I don't see why you don't answer my questions. If you bash the game itself that I play, you shouldn't expect to not see some hate.

Pimmeh 01-25-2008 10:46 PM

Just leave, and be done with it.
Im not gonna miss you since I dont know you, and the people who DO know you will stay in touch

MasterNuke 01-25-2008 10:54 PM

This is the simplest way I can put it.

Back then, the game presented itself as a fun game. Today, the game presents itself as a tedious game where you need to put in extra effort to make it fun.

If no one points it out, it will never be changed.

CABAL49 01-25-2008 11:28 PM

Bye Ed, come back and vist sometime.

kia345 01-25-2008 11:35 PM

Bye Ed!

And Horrified, your posts seem to be laced with dogmatic feelings, proving that you are no Pastafarian. A disgrace to FSM Himself

Word.

Peace, Ed.

Switch 01-26-2008 12:14 AM

Cya Ed.

Maybe one day Stefan/Unixmad will listen to players telling them what they should to do make the game better, and if that happens, I hope to see you ingame again :)

Well, a key note to remember is that the other games do it A LOT better than Graal. They have better funding, so better support and updates.
Graal has, on the otherhand, poor funding and resources, being coded by one person and the majority of the game being made by players.

Googi 01-26-2008 12:33 AM

The most successful MMORPGs are all grinding games. Making an MMORPG isn't like an offline RPG where the player is only supposed to play for something like 40 hours. It's not clear why but grinding seems to be the only thing people are willing to spend hundreds to thousands of hours doing.

MasterNuke 01-26-2008 01:59 AM

Satisfaction from grinding in a MMORPG tends to be very consistent with rare drops being momentary spikes of satisfaction.

The point isn't "satisfaction" or "fun". The point is that not only will people do it, but they're willing to spend more time doing it than they're willing to spend doing actual "fun" things.
