Atexia is hiring graphic artists!

Atexia is a promising server with a very simple concept set. The style is that of a fantasy RPG but it contains a flavor of a strategy game. This server will become a gold server upon release (as deemed by the big man himself).

The whole world is laid out in a grid layout and contains a multitude of "item usages" that allow you to do many things with various items. A good example I like to use:
  • Kill a cow to gain 'Side of Beef'
  • Use a 'Cooking Knife' on the 'Side of Beef' to get '4 Uncooked Cow Legs', 'Uncooked Cow Ribs', '4 Animal Fat', '4 Animal Guts'
  • Use 'Sheers' on a 'Pine Tree' to get 'Branches'
  • Use 'Branches' on an 'Empty Stove' to get a 'Loaded Stove'
  • Use a 'Fire Starter' on a 'Loaded Stove' to get a 'Lit Stove'
  • Use 'Uncooked Cow Leg' and/or 'Uncooked Cow Ribs' on the 'Lit Stove' to get 'Cooked Cow Leg'/'Cooked Cow Ribs'
  • Use 'Shovel' on the ground to get a 'Well'
  • Use a 'Bucket' on the 'Well' to get a 'Water Bucket'
  • Use the 'Water Bucket' on a 'Cooking Pot' to get a 'Water filled Cooking Pot'
  • Use the 'Water filled Cooking Pot' on the 'Lit Stove' to get a 'Boiling Cooking Pot'
  • Use 'Animal Fat' on the 'Boiling Cooking Pot' to get '4 Candles'
  • Use 'Animal Guts' on the 'Boiling Cooking Pot' to get 'Bow String'
  • Now you can eat the meat for food, light the candles for visibility and use the bow string on an unstrung bow to gain a new weapon!
  • This is just one of the many examples of "item usages", there are many many more out there!

It may seem a little complex but it just shows the versatility that every single item can hold.

We currently almost have all of the scripting completed (an estimated completion of all the scripting is about 2 weeks) so are now looking for graphic artists! Almost all of the graphical work to do is just basic icons but there is a call for some sprite work and also some tileset work (very simple terrain-style tilesets only!).

I'm sorry I don't have any screenshots to post but there isn't much graphical content to show (almost all the current content is just coding). The server is also in a staffonly like status because that is part of our agreement (since we are using Gold server bodies).

If you wish to gain access to see the server (even if you are just wanting to look), please feel free to contact me via one of my contacts listed in my signature and I'll be happy to give you a personal tour!

Reminds me a little bit of RS for some reason. 0_o Just a little constructive criticism here... it might be a little too complex for the average noobeh or for anyone in that case. Some people may get annoyed about all the steps you have to follow to end up with just a few simple items. Maybe you should tone it down somehow?

Life isn't simple! Not everyone has to follow such complex steps though. For the simple minded, there are the combat characters. These item usages are only really used for trade characters. Combat characters can just go on dungeon raids, get their money and buy the things they need.

A lot of what I said above isn't what you have to do all the time. If you own your own plot of land, you won't be digging a well more then one time (unless you plan on moving it). A lit stove will last a very long time so you can get all your cooking done at once. You also could cut all your branches during one run and just carry home a stock pile of branches. When you get low, go get a ton more!

Gileada had to be put on hold for a while longer as I had virtually no help with it. Ideas like those work when you have a team of staff comprising of many talents but a scripter alone can't make something like such. This other server I am making is very simple and should be complete rather quickly.

Cool. We are still looking for Graphic Artists just so everyone knows. When I get enough people, I'll be sure to say so on here.

zokemon 07-01-2007 10:17 AM

Friendly reminder note!

Also:
A ton of updates are done and we plan to be going hosted very soon once I hash out the whole using Gold bodies while hosted thing with Stefan.

A big portion of people who visited the server just got confused and left before but now that we have a very friendly and easy to use tutorial, people seem to be having a much better understanding (and I just love to see people go "OOO" when they see what they can do ;) )

So:
- If you wanna just look around, give me a buzz!
- If you want to apply for a graphic position: Great! We really need you!

Spoiler!

Here is a little sneak peak of what is on Atexia at this time. It is a screen shot of the warp center that acts as a central nexus to all the player-owned land plots. This is only temporary until we can add gmap support (which requires Graal v5 as I am using tilelayers at this time).

I want to remind you that the graphical quality is not the best at this time and is not the main feature of the server either. In order to really see what you can do, you just need to login and check for your self! I think the screen shot alone should be able to convince you that this is not a normal Graal server.

By the way:
Everything you see in that screen shot was all made using in-game tools (all of which are available to every player) from the items (walls made from bricks, chair made from wood) to the tiles (made from surfacing). There was no use of staff tools here (other then to set these specific land's rights) and no use of and level editor of any sort.

Yes, you can do this too!

Although with the lack of replies I'll probably just make a new topic since I'm sure most have flagged this thread as "pointless to read" or so...
