A little less complication, a little more Classic...

Something I've been putting together in the miniscule amounts of spare time I can find (having a baby to take care of) for Arca. Tom told me I couldn't show off the graphics but he didn't say anything about the level itself, so I changed to the Classic tileset. It's a little less vibrant like this, but both tilesets feel Classic enough that the level is nice in both.

Remember though, it is a Classic level and isn't supposed to be swamped in new-fangled detail styles or houses ;)

Edit: Yes, I have noticed the tile error in the bottom right. It's something of a pain, as the error with the Arca tileset is only a single pixel.

Darlene159 04-12-2007 03:35 PM

That's nice. I like it. :)

Sam 04-12-2007 04:13 PM

Could be my favorite residential estate on classic ^^

Mursle 04-12-2007 04:31 PM

Yeah its really nice, I love it ^^

xXziroXx 04-12-2007 06:37 PM

Awesome for a Classic server!

Crimson2005 04-12-2007 07:31 PM

Pretty!

Shaun 04-12-2007 08:19 PM

Nice, although a little too plain. Adding grass fences around houses I find does wonders. Maybe with a couple chairs and perhaps even a table. And I would round out the road's corners a little bit more.

mmmmkay 04-12-2007 09:03 PM

If it's a classic city level you've got to throw in hedges. And I'd suggest instead of fencing off an area with nothing in it, fence off a house maybe. Good though for the approach.

Ducati_Link 04-13-2007 05:00 AM

Nice simple level. Agree with mmmkay that you need a hedge.

Kittah 04-13-2007 05:02 AM

There're hedges in the other levels, but I'll see about throwing one in here too ^^

Here's a shot of one of the other levels in the town (it's 4x4 so you can see where it fits in with the first, though there's a house added between the levels now). No detail yet, but you can see the layout. For some reason I'm in love with the buildings here.

Luda 04-13-2007 07:39 AM

Looks great :) Lol I don't think they want me to make levels for them anymore.

Your levels weren't bad so much as they were in a bad setting. Classic levels look horrible with the new tileset which is sad. You also need to work on your detailing, but otherwise they weren't bad - just keep them simple and clutter-free aside from detail ;)

Shaun 04-13-2007 09:32 PM

I miss the old tiles and classical style of tiling (or LATing or whatever you newer folks call it).

I don't get it :p

warp2ukew 04-16-2007 05:18 AM

i personally you don't think you'll ever be half the lat luda is/was (especially in his prime)

Infernix 04-16-2007 05:31 AM

Great to see some quality work from some other than the same 3 people.

middo 04-16-2007 06:06 AM

I miss the original Graal, that was only classic :(

I love levels like this, good job.

Running a search, Luda has made some very nice levels. His cliffwork is beautiful (much like my own is I would say, though in terms of gmaps I often simplify the cliffwork somewhat to look better on a map image). I think the difference is that I don't often make levels much for show. His Classic levels a little down the page are not something that I personally like. They're simple but not quite Classic.

I would also say his detail is severely lacking. It comes down to a matter of taste though, because each person likes their own detail style. Luda is probably more imaginative than I am, but I only ever really make outdoor levels and I like to focus on cliffs and detail. Besides, most of my current work is Classic styled - not intended to overwhelm people with orgasmic delight ;)

Rapidwolve 04-16-2007 08:04 AM

I love these, great job.

Even someone who's great at something still needs advice and still has more things to learn. :noob:

Ducati_Link 04-16-2007 03:28 PM

One never stops learning.. as once you do, you fall behind.

Please don't tell me you're basing somebody's time and efforts on GraalOnline based on these brief and recent forums. There existed for a long time a GraalOnline community long before these forums. Still even now, the majority of the community has virtually nothing to do with these forums.

Your scope is narrow.

I don't get the criticism. I'm not familiar with Luda's work (because I only play on and off in phases, hence I am not always "in the loop") so to get an idea of his work to return someone's criticism I used what I could to get a brief idea. Obviously what few levels he has posted are not the sum total of his levelling ability but it gives me a small idea. Great work for pointing out the blatantly obvious.

For the record, I've been playing since 1.28 so yes, I know these forums are nothing to base the total of someone's Graal experience on. It looks to me as though you've based my own experience on my forum account join date. If that is so, your own scope is narrow.

I never looked at your forum account join date and don't know how you came to the conclusion you did.

The forums are inconsequential.

You still haven't explained the point of your original criticism.

mmmmkay 04-18-2007 08:47 PM

Yeah honestly if I was to butt in I would say Shaun came out of nowhere with the whole narrow scope comment as you basically used the resources at hand the best you could. And the funny thing is Luda posed levels a year ago, and very recently so Kittah does in fact for the most part know the extent of Luda's abilities thus being able to judge his skill off these forums.

Gothika 04-18-2007 09:05 PM

I don't really like the classic style. But yeah, good job.

ff7chocoboknight 04-27-2007 04:50 AM

very nice levels, and is that a custom tileset?

It's the original(?) Graal tileset.

ff7chocoboknight 04-27-2007 09:37 PM

oh... I forgot I had the tileset for the server I work for on my level editor

syltburk 04-27-2007 10:48 PM

I don't get it, it's like any classic level.

Read the first post genius, that's the whole point. Now get out of my thread and take your bitter trash elsewhere.

Yeah but what I said is basically, why post something we've seen so many times? I mean you're not bad, actually I like your levels but I would only get impressed by level makers who actually can do some originality.

Some levels that for example mkay made, I envy. Instead of fending me off, being like I am usually on graal you could make a try making something which is actually original.

Mafukie 04-30-2007 01:06 AM

Nice levels, Luda is a very respected Level creator.

I don't know why everyone is jumping on you, maybe because you just
started trying to make a name for yourself levels wise. Don't let it bother
you too much though.
