Frequently Asked Questions

Konidias are you having everyone start out with a sword or do we have to quest for one?

Will it be easier to get money?

Will bomy pets still be around?

Do you have an idea on when graal2001 will be going public again?

You start out with a sword. In fact, you can't attack with your fists at all.

Dunno what you mean by "easier". If you mean can you become wealthy in a day, then no. If you mean will there be more ways to make money, then yes.

Yes. They will be a combination of the old scriptable bomy pets and the bomy pets that you could feed and ride. :)

I honestly couldn't tell you. I thought I'd be finished months ago, but it's really not possible to give a good release estimate... I can only hope that it's before this summer... if we don't run into a bunch of problems or go short on staff.

smirt362 01-29-2007 10:45 AM

How fast will the train go? Do you support standing up mid ride and going...WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

konidias 01-29-2007 09:20 PM

36,000 tiles an hour, and yes... except you have to actually stand up at home and do it. :p

Shotoo2 01-29-2007 10:13 PM

Will I be able to go pearl diving? :D

Damix2 01-29-2007 11:25 PM

I didn't really feel like making a thread about it but I had an interesting idea. When 2k1 first came out there were no free jobs. You had to beg someone with money or win an event before you could start one of the other jobs (fishing/mining/farming)

I suggest that the 'free' jobs be disabled or made to cost something.

It took forever for the first person to gain 1k the first time it was released, over a month. And the only person with 10k before the 'free' jobs were released was IceP(r)ick.

It'd be nice to have the economy balanced like that again instead of like the last release where people had over 1k in the first 2 days.

zell12 01-30-2007 12:33 AM

So you want to give the winners of events the power to control the economy? Pretty unfair I think. That wouldn't be a solution to the problem...

if there are enough events right away the problem will solve itself, as it did right when it came out.

Or you can enable the NPC that gave everyone 30 gralats at the start again and then let them choose what to spend it on.

zell12 01-30-2007 12:52 AM

I'll comment on what Koni has done when the server has been released, if I'm still around.

Btw, your sig is fsuking scary... Men are not supposed to wear make-up... :/

Yep. But not as a bomy player. >_<

Like mentioned above, I don't really think that's a solution to the problem that you brought up. Eventually everyone would have the supplies to do all the jobs, so all that would be doing is slowing everyone down a week and then after that week everyone would be making way too much money again.

All I can say is that I'm going to do everything I can to make sure the economy is more balanced so that measures don't have to be taken after the server is released.

Since gralats are now based off US currency, it's easy for me to calculate how much money a person should earn doing a graal job. I also will calculate "living expenses", since obviously if you made the equivalent of $6.50 in gralats every hour and you didn't have to pay for food or rent or anything, you'd be wealthy in no time. This is why the economy has failed so much in the past.

zell12 01-30-2007 05:00 AM

Just don't make it so you have to make money in order to fully play the game. And lots of it too... :/

Dude, he looks like he wants to give me a reach around. He's wearing make-up, and he is a guy... That shouldn't be allowed. I wish he came to a city around me so I could whack him up-side the head.

Eh this would be a problem when someone has like 10 accounts.

I can't promise that, lol. Obviously you have to make money in order to buy certain tools or whatever... Unless someone is nice enough to give them to you.

I'm trying to make the jobs as fun as possible and have other ways of obtaining items/money. Really you'll just have to wait and see for yourself. I promise I will try not to make this server boring or repetitive in any way. (except rock jail, rock jail must be boring and repetitive. :p

warp2ukew 01-30-2007 07:23 AM

Make fishing more fun :( When Lance released it didn't matter what bait you had, etc etc.

zell12 01-30-2007 09:57 AM

idk about that mushroom hunt either.... baking wasn't too fun either...

Mabey have lots of events, some you dont need ETs for maybe? Make the same amount of money there... sorta, as much you would doin jobs?

Correct. We have more than enough on our plate as it is without adding in dozens of bomy ganis, scripting all of the tools/instruments/items/events/jobs/quests/etc to work with bomy players... just so people can walk around as a bomy. I looked at the pros vs the cons and that's what I decided. Just so I might try to convince you of why bomy players are a bad idea, I'll list those pros and cons now:

Pros:
- players get to play as another race which allows them to be more different from another player
- special quests and events and jobs for bomy players only

Cons:
- a crapload more scripting needs to be done
- many more ganis need to be made
- bomies still have no hands so it's hard to make any jobs or events or quests for them
- the new clothing system pretty much cuts out like 10 articles of clothing so they can't use that stuff...
- it was weird and illogical to see bomies walking around talking and acting "human" and then seeing human players walking around with bomy "pets".
- bomy pets allow human players the exact same abilities as a bomy player (in terms of movement)
- bomies have a different attack range/damage system which means that a bomy vs player fight is never going to be evenly matched.

Let's face the facts... Bomy players are severely limited and it's not possible to change that. Everything on the server is pretty much designed for humans. All anyone ever did as bomy players was complain about the unfairness or even "racism" that bomy players had to deal with. How they never got enough good jobs to do, or quests, or how they couldn't wear hats, or do human jobs... In the end some of these things were resolved but at what cost? Bomies playing instruments and fishing? How the heck did they hold the instruments or tools? Magic?

No I think it was telekinesis or something right? Sorry that's getting a little farfetched for me. I'd like to try and keep the world in some sort of believable setting. Not psychic bomy creatures who have advanced technology and robot suits that let them have arms and laser cannons... It's just not what the original 2k1 was about.

Totally agree.

konidias 01-30-2007 10:27 PM

Glad I'm not alone. We will have other races though... just human-type races such as Zormite. (since you can no longer "sethead/setbody" there is a new way to obtain these different races. :)

They won't have any significant advantage over any other... Basically Zormite are just like Humans... only they look like fish creatures. =P This allows everyone to wear the "human" clothing while being different races.

I think the enormous variety of appearance options you'll have for your character should make up for the fact that you can't be a bomy. I mean you get to change your skin color, hair color, eye color, gender, every article of clothing you're wearing, and so on. :p

If I was bored enough I'd come up with the actual amount of different possibilities available... I'm sure it's reached the millions by now.

Luda 01-30-2007 10:55 PM

Would be cool if Zormites swam faster, and maybe have Bomy's evolved more? With hands :S I don't know just a suggestion. Also will the name still be Bomy Island, if there is no longer going to be Bomy's?

Sage_Shadowbane 01-30-2007 11:03 PM

Im pretty sure there are still going to be Bomy's but they will be used as pets instead of another race.

Oh okay, then never mind my last question Konidas.

It was considered, but doing so would give an unfair advantage to Zormites. Then you'd have to nerf something of Zormite's... like make them walk slower on land, or make them need to go to water every x amount of time or whatever... and I think that would just be a pain.

I want to make it so everyone is on even ground during events and sparring and such. If zormites swim faster then you can pretty much rule out having zormite/human swimming events since zormites would win hands down. If they walked slower they'd get destroyed in a spar against a human... etc.

It sounds neat to do in theory but the end result isn't so pretty.

As for bomies evolving... lol they aren't pokemon nor do I want them to be. There will definitely still be bomy pets and there will be stories involving bomies... but I'm keeping it basic and not going into lots of detail about all that Zalactic Labs crap and futuristic technology and all of that nonsense. I'd much rather prefer the bomies are just from another planet and are more like dogs or monkeys or something than human beings or super intelligent beings.

I think of them more as Yoshis. :p

zell12 01-31-2007 05:51 AM

Just give humans something special... idk what...

Bomies could run on a treadmill for some sort of Bomy Slave Electric Generator Program.

Yup. Except I believe you'll have to be a Zormite to be in the Zormite kingdom...

Thank god you're not doing that Zalatic Labs and futuristic bull****, man that was stupid.

jacob_bald6225 02-15-2007 05:43 AM

Any possibility of adding height? Could do it simple by the positioning of the head on the body image.

Sage_Shadowbane 02-15-2007 06:13 AM

From my knowledge of what's going on with the server, They could only do that by adjusting the players zoom for the sprites, otherwise the head would just pop off the shoulders.

You wouldn't let it go for an unlimited distance, maybe a few notches up, and a few notches down.

Valder 02-15-2007 07:11 AM

Will we be able to win bomy pets through events again instead of having to pay a rediculous amount of money for one... I liked how I WON my bomy pet through an event. Also, will we be able to choose what bomy pet we want (as long as it's not already being used)?

And make it so that if you already have a bomy pet, you can either give one to your friend, or you just win some gralats. This way we don't have people running around with 30 different bomies.

That might make it look a bit weird though. Even if it is just a small adjustment.

There really is no need for more than like 2 FAQ. They can just create a script of some kind that the player can toggle and search for the answer they need.

I guess the person to person interaction is needed for the less intellegent players though...

zell12 02-15-2007 09:27 AM

Pretty sure we discussed this a long time ago with a few people on g2k1, might have been somewhere else... something about players helping players... getting good reputation for helpful people... something like that.

But again, if we only need two... I want one of them... But only if I get that leet FAQ tool.

Thak2 03-02-2007 01:32 AM

Are some of the things that were made for the Kingdoms while Lance was in charge - still going to be used?

I Hope so.

I wish you well in making all the new stuff too.
