Vista Final Version 6 (6000)

Randomly crashes GraalOnline every 10-20 seconds; This is the error I get from Vista error reports. I've sent quite a few to microsoft lol.

I have about 100+ of these errors and this is always the error that occurs when Graal crashes.

CheeToS2 12-12-2006 05:57 AM

I can log on and play with RC1, but Graal4 often crashes with that exact error randomly.

gx_staff5 12-12-2006 06:13 AM

Gah, Its probally something to do with Vista hopefully Stefan will patch graal to be compatible with Vista. I think Vista launch date is end of January, Hopefully it can be fixed before or by then so when people upgrade to Vista or new users jump into Graal with vista they can actually play.

gx_staff5 12-12-2006 09:39 AM

This may be one issue; Vista uses NTDLL Version 6.X; and all other Windows OS seem to use a NTDLL Version 5.X; Could there be an incompatibility?

Admins 12-12-2006 10:41 PM

Something in the windows library yes, hard to know what is causing it. Might check Vista sometime in January, right now we don't have any copy of it.

Get the RC1 then. Has the same core librarys as my final copy of it.

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvist...y/preview.mspx

RC1 Trial is Valid till June2007.

*Update:

After talking to CheeToS it is not the exact same librarys the major version 6.x is the same but the minor version 6.0.6000.XXXXX is different but the librarys probably still function very similar if CheeToS also experiences the same problem I do.

Admins 12-17-2006 06:12 AM

RC1, RC2 and RTM are quite different. Also we don't have the time before christmas. Even half of the Microsoft products don't run on Vista right now.

ReBorn_Spirit 12-17-2006 08:27 AM

It's probably the same error reason you get for XP x64, I just cant find the crash log.

It seems to be some odd error, probably in the microphone/sound files for graal. But I could be wrong.
I can get a somewhat stable graal window when I launch the Teamspeak client, to further stabilize it, I need to run about 5 other programs dealing with sound or video, sometimes even IE7 does the trick.

Admins 12-17-2006 02:31 PM

But disabling the sound doesn't help in that case?

Inverness 12-17-2006 09:50 PM

Pac can't post at the moment because of password problems, so i'm doing it on his behalf.

On vista it helps me to have GW and WoW runing besides the extreme lag and yes I need both so its semi - stable; without it, it only lasts about 2minutes then crashes.

I do not believe that disabling the entire sound system will help any, it still loads the 32 bit dll's.

I have attached a new Graal4.exe (v4.207) to this post. The only modification is that the sound library has been updated. Please check if this is working better.

Want a download link to test Graal with Vista? :D

Since the last update, Graal has been crashing for me in Vista before I get a window with this error:

Exception EAccessViolation in module AcLayers.dll at 0001172E.
Access violation at address 7445172E in module 'AcLayers.dll'. Read of address 00000010.

:(

Before the last update it would crash randomly, which I think your new exe might help with.

Admins 01-09-2007 12:25 PM

So is this version changing something for you?
Did you try Graal in compatibility mode or so?

It worked somewhat before the last global update, then I started getting the AcLayers.dll error. In other words, the most recent update that all players received caused another problem with Vista. Because of that error, I can't see if the version you posted here fixes the problems from the version before the global update. I am betting if the AcLayers thing is fixed, sound will start working :)

It is running in compatibility mode, yes.

(Windows XP x64 Graal4.exe test)
That exe does make a difference, it actually loaded without Teamspeak client running. Though it might be a glitch still from me running my processor up to about 95% inuse before I launched graal before, I will post any changes if any after a restart.

**Graal4.exe still difficult to launch.

MS released a new Application Compatibility Toolkit to evaluate compatibility with Vista yesterday. It can be used in Win2k and WinXP :)
Not sure if it is of any use, but here it is:

That program is more for checking if the installed programs are known to work fine after OS upgrade / Windows update. It is not checking for bugs or so in the program or OS itself.
We will try to test Graal soon on Vista.

Mog 02-04-2007 07:05 AM

we need a Windows Vista compatible Graal client right away. Compatibility is set to "Windows XP (Service Pack 2)" and everytime the Graal client is run, it goes through its usual auto update and once the Download Progress is at 100%, an error message is displayed on the screen:

Access violation at address 6CFD1826 in module 'AcLayers.dll'. Read of Address 00000010.

I randomly get booted off the Graal client, but one thing that does close the Graal client is if you press Alt+2 to try and take a screenshot. Sometimes double-clicking on toall messages will boot me out of the Graal client too. Graphics seem ok, except for when you press the Tab button to show the text box.

Oh btw, my Windows Experience Index base score is 4.1 out of 5.

Admins 02-04-2007 04:15 PM

You downloaded the latest version of Graal? It should not auto-update in that case. Also the aclayers.dll thing was eventually caused by the sound library in the old Graal version, so it might work better with the latest version.

Are you sure you're not talking about a BETA version or the RC1 release?

i have version 4.0.2.7; the client tries to update itself evertime I log into the server.

other problems include being sometimes booted off the client if I try to read PM's and when I try to download additional files such as the Level Editor, I get booted off the Graal Client too.

Admins 02-04-2007 07:25 PM

Current version is 4.208, download it from the website. That should fix the update problem, for the other things you will need to wait until we have fully tested and fixed Graal for Vista.

Mog 02-05-2007 08:08 AM

i'm also missing a few folders in the Graal folder. the only folders i see are:

languages3D
levels
levels3d
sounds

I'm pretty sure there are more folders (and files) such as "PM" and "Profiles", etc... when I try to read a PM, i get booted off the Graal Client, so i can't read any PM's from anybody and it doesn't save any PM's anywhere on the hard drive. Also, one thing i noticed was that sometime I get hurt in NON-PK areas and I don't get hurt in a few PK areas on Vista (I'm not at 100ap). I don't know what the deal is, but the new version 4.2.0.8 seems a little more stable, but i still get randomly booted off the Graal Client.

Should also mention that this happens when you try to open PMs :P

Rufus 02-06-2007 06:29 PM

:frown: Yeah, I was silly enough to buy and upgrade to Windows Vista Ultimate today much to the warning of Crono, but I'm having all of these problems too.

Atleast your desktop is pretty now. :P

JkWhoSaysNi 02-06-2007 08:31 PM

I dont have that problem.. but whenever updateboard() is called, it causes very strange graphical errors.

Doesn't the XP tools work on Vista? :O

Are you using the 32-bit version of Vista?

And does anyone who uses the 32-bit version get errors when trying to read PMs?

RC2 works (except for freezing while it connects to the npcserver), RC1 has problems displaying text. Graalshop works, and I haven't tested the level editor.

Mog 02-12-2007 08:35 PM

same problem too reading PMs. and im using the 32-bit version rather than the 64-bit and i guess i got banned on the forums for a while for posting graal errors huh?

Expanding on this a bit.. if I check history of someone before I PM, I can then open and reply to and PM, but only after I've opened some random history x_x

Admins 02-16-2007 01:03 AM

Ok dokey
Please everyone who has Vista try following:
Rename Graal4.exe to a filename with at least 9 characters before the dot (e.g. Graal4bla.exe) and then start it and try to open the PMs.

Devil 02-16-2007 01:12 AM

http://img442.imageshack.us/img442/2...opgraalhk2.jpg

I open Graal, and that error won't disappear.

I can't retrieve my password from my email account because the server is too busy, so I'll try the PM's later.

If I change Graal to GraalBlah.exe, I do not receive that error anymore.

Devil 02-16-2007 02:22 AM

Double post, sorry.

Everything seems to be working fine, the .exe is named GraalBlah.exe, PM's work perfectly.

I'm running Vista Ultimate.

Admins 02-16-2007 03:39 AM

Interesting :D Will try to find a way to run Graal fine without that "hack" though.

Devil 02-16-2007 03:40 AM

Yeah that's cool, everything is perfect :D

Happy to help.
