Tileset Preview

I know I need to balance the colours because everything doesn't fit together very well. Anyways, what are your thoughts?

Zero Hour 10-08-2006 12:51 AM

I'm beginning to hate the optics of Graal now that I've noticed everything appears vertical.

What exaclty you mean?Oo

Draenin 10-08-2006 01:12 AM

You just see the sides and tops of things.

Goboom 10-08-2006 01:15 AM

I think he means something like:
http://img84.imageshack.us/img84/3850/roadba6.png

Look at the road...
He would like it more if graal had the optics of the left but it only has that of the right.

Elk 10-08-2006 01:21 AM

the outlines look good though

Yes, essentially. Even if you make a very nice 3D building and everything else 3D you will always meet this flat appearance... unless you use the 3D engine and that changes the game very dramatically.

I think I see what you mean. So you must like graal's current cliffs since they appear on the sides rather than keeping realism. hehe

I think I am just becoming picky, because it really bothers me.

There would have to be some sort of 3D engine probably using the current GMAP and some perspective engine.

Em 10-08-2006 01:45 AM

Yah I agree with you zero.. It's kind of sad really.

Tom 10-08-2006 01:46 AM

Ah damn you zero, i never noticed that before. Now its just bugging me.

Also, your artwork remind me of star wars, purty nice.

Yea, that's also what happened to me. It's very frustrating once you do notice it.
Ninja Edit:

I was just thinking, a decent way to fix this is with a "Field of vision" some effects or 24bit PNGs which fog the vision further on down the screen. Could be modified with items for certains servers with classes and such :)

Crono 10-08-2006 01:49 AM

You guys never noticed this angle? I've just grown used to it, though it also bothers me a little bit. X:

The annoying thing is now, is that it looks like its downhill. So when i play graal now, ill be changing the way i look at it all the time :(

Deek2 10-08-2006 01:51 AM

It bothers me now, too, as well. But I can easily ignore it.

Luda 10-08-2006 02:22 AM

i like it Em, the sand looks cool :)

I remixed the colours and stuff.
How do you feel it looks now? does it blend together? Is anything sticking out?

Goboom 10-08-2006 03:03 AM

The Graal character itself is sticking out.

I haven't made custom bodies yet. Other than that?

Zero Hour 10-08-2006 03:17 AM

Hope Red is ok with you using his graphics o:

Luda 10-08-2006 03:23 AM

is that a wooden couch? i think you should make it more "bench-like"

Yah it's a couch.
I thought it looked like pillows O.o Soft.. not wood.
Hmm Il have to work on it some more.

Zideruic 10-08-2006 04:25 AM

I think the dirt needs a graininess added to it, as of now it looks like wet sand.

Devil 10-08-2006 04:43 AM

Uh guys the topic is about a tileset, not what you think looks crap with Graal and how it's viewed.

I like the tileset!

excaliber7388 10-08-2006 04:45 AM

Why is there indoor stuuf, like a couch and a tv, outside?
btw, gfx-wise, the tileset looks nice

It's a magical couch.. when you sit on it, it randomly transports you somewhere.
I sat on it and ended up here. I know, like wtf.

Sulukra 10-08-2006 05:28 AM

The palm trees don't quite fit in.

Hmm yah that's what I was thinking too.. Tony (Co-manager) likes them though.. I'm not sure what I'm going to do yet. I'll probably make new ones that fit the tileset better.

WanDaMan 10-08-2006 11:32 AM

Very impressive detail on the sand. I really like it =D

Demisis_P2P 10-08-2006 11:51 AM

Looks like a watercolour painting.

Crono 10-08-2006 01:10 PM

Ok to be honest it looks a lot like sands of glory. That's not a good thing.

Tom 10-08-2006 01:25 PM

Some of the lines have great potential, just need better colouring.

Id suggest totally recolouring the palm tree, 2 dark shades, 1 light and 1 base colour :D See how that turns out.

hampy 10-08-2006 02:12 PM

I really like it, the house looks a bit funny in my opinion but everything else is real nice :D

maximus_asinus 10-08-2006 04:33 PM

The colors are too dark. The door to the building is too small for a player to fit through. I dislike the palm trees a lot. The sand is ok, but as said before it looks like a water painting.

Androk2 10-08-2006 07:12 PM

To Zero: Perspective is what you make of it. Chrono trigger was in overhead viuew as well, but the courtroom scene was nothing to sneeze at.

Those images....are wow lol And hes got a point, but the angle of graal is a bit bigger than that courtroom scene.

Yea, I know what perspective is - however it needs to stay consistent. The way Graal 2D engine works now things look wrong because buildings are on an angle but the entire canvas is viewed birds eye.

You would have to have a engine like the old GTA games.

Crono 10-08-2006 08:28 PM

chrono trigger 4 lyfe
