Why do you..
Question: Why do you develop for graal? I really am curious on why people take there time to develop which (sorta) saves stefan/unixmad some money due to not having to pay people to develop though it would be more-well managed I guess.
But back to the question, you are not being paid to develop.. so why develop? There are tons of places you can get paid to script, or make graphics. So why do you develop for graal? :p ( I think I just repeated my question 4-5 times, so i expect an answer of 4-5 sentences though one sentence will do ) |
Well it started out making my own little house back then and I wanted it to go up on graal the adventure. Didn't work out since my computer broke though.
When I come back I start playing Xone, and Outlaw (ex-manager of babylon at some time) is looking for people to make levels. I hadn't ever made any levels apart from that inside on classic but I decided hey this could be fun. So I made some ****ty town for his server but it wasn't really used. I kind of liked making levels because some people (i dont know why, I sucked really bad back then) liked my levels. I kept working and more and more servers wanted me and people liked it. Up until today I still improve and people still say "hai crono ur dat lat =D" |
It's a really good question.

I develop because I find it pretty fun and engaging.

I develop (via coding) sorta because I am trying to learn other languages. (I've already learned a big chunk of php due to gs1 - i've been scripting since 2000 :o -- Or attempting :( ) |
I learned how to script back in the past with graal script (and the offline level editor :frown: ). That's maybe why I'm still using it now. ;)
|
Hm, I make Graphics because I like to draw. I've been drawing by hand and painting since the third grade. Has always been a passion of mine. So much so that I occasionally stay up till 4:00AM on nights I'm not exhausted to GFX things and get better and better. ^o^

It's fun :)

I like to make levels for self satisfaction now.
I used to love making them for the players, but since I can't do that anymore, I do it for myself :) |

Because I can only make levels, and that only serves me a use on Graal.. :P
Plus, I enjoy it. |

Because through GraalScript, GS1, I got my very first taste in computer languages.
I used this to learn a tad of JavaScript, and I made one or two interesting things. I continued this and got heavily into ActionScript for Macromedia Flash, and I made my own Music Control script, which allows a crossfade between songs, a fade in and fade out when a song begins and ends, and can give the user complete control over what playes, when, and how loudly I guess I could make it better and add more to it. I continued my scripting and eventually got into programming, into C++. Never before did my computer make such bizzare noises and warning messages. I'm pretty sure that's how I destroyed my computer. Now I'm very much into computer programming, even though this poor little crappy computer can't handle much of anything I do. Amazing it even runs Graal. I've always been interested in how things work and how things tick, so when I first started Graal, I wondered how the NPC Character Baddy that Stefan created worked. I never could understand that script, but I got into GS1 in the offline level editor and made very small scripts. I made it to where I am today--very proficient in GS2. My accomplishments include being a very tiny, tiny part of the #gscript community, which was a blast. I strived to be a part of the Global Scripting Team, but never got that far. Currently I'm the Game Developing Administrator on Zodiac, which is pretty much all scripting and planning. Why do I develop? Because Graal is how I got started in computer programming, and GS2 is so much damn fun. I just wish it could do more, like make our own C#-based classes, maybe a namespace, maybe something else. I'd love to make my own functions and add them to the predefined string-type class, if that would someday be possible. |
Play GraalOnline.
It's so much more fun. |
Because it is fun to see your friends play with/in graphics/levels that you made. Gives a nice cosy feeling inside! :]
|
Cuz im good at it?
Same with why anyone sticks with anything.. they try it out cuz it seems fun (Alotta times because they want to be known for something) They stick with it, get better and better and pretty soon are one of the best and people look up to them. Its the whole idea with Power i think.. Power and being famouse in ways. |
I am just curious why people would wanna dev on Graal rather then get a paying job to dev..
|
It's good practice for me. Plus, in an online environment you can get help more easily when you need it.
|
I used to develop because it was fun making quests similar to Zelda, FF.
|
It was a good sandbox for input and output in my creative endeavors. I don't do as much developing now - but once in a while I still do when Kingdoms needs something or a friend convinces me.
