The totally SMOOTH GFX Engine.

It's truly beautiful on my Pentium 2, 128 MB RAM,I move ever so slow across the map. I hit F3, hoping to turn off those damn lights, wait! There's NO BUTTON!!! Honestly, I don't care whether or not the DEVs know if I see the lights or not. I want them off, because my income is extremely low, can't earn a better computer AT ALL, so this is basically taking Graal away completely. I already lag terribly on Era, what's with the more torture?! Just add the stupid button and let me play. Anyone else that has a bad computer, please post here as well. Maybe we'll manage to get that one important button back. [] Turn off Direct3D (lights) Best. Button. Ever. |
Direct3D lights are an important part of Graal, disabling them takes away a lot of the atmosphere from several places.
I would like to see, however, Graal 4 having OpenGL support for drawing graphics, though. I found that Graal 3 was much quicker with OpenGL. |
I agree I used to turn off the light, when I was new because of the lag. Then I turned them on and really dont care anymore most servers look far better with the lights on. Also people can use lighting in quests and for atmosphere and not worry about people not seeing it.
|
:whatever: If only you knew how much I was suffering.
Oh wait, Look! http://img349.imageshack.us/img349/3312/bad3tn.jpg |
Seriously, if anyone has this "affinity" for the atmosphere, that's why the button is there!!! So then the atmosphere lovers with their newfangled computers rejoice, while we poor hoboes can actually have fun at a game that can ACTUALLY play on our computers.
|
Lights not only add to the atmosphere, but to the game play as well... If you turn lights that might give you an advantage in the game that the developers did not want you to have. They might've used light effects for something other than making the server look pretty.

You have a Pentium 2 with Windows XP? I seriously doubt it. Update the graphics card driver please. Graal v4 has been tested on computers with only 300 Mhz and I was able to start several Graals without slowdowns. It is not really possible to turn off light effects since it is also required to draw the GUI and text. Servers could theoretically make it possible to turn off some effects, although then you should also use that (right click on the Era gui to change the transparency, after a few clicks it will be non-transparent). |
Edited:
Windows 2000, dude. And, I said that I have low income. A graphics card is like... wow. It's like buying a boat with 5 dollars. I make $2.00 a week. |
I have used this makeshift Star Wars Compatibility checker to kinda show you where I am.

Also, out of curiosity, where do you live? |
Mississippi.
Where can I find a graphics card driver, then? All the ones I've tried have spyware, hard to actually put INTO [the hard drive] the computer, and also don't make a difference. Most of the ones you have to pay for seem to work, but no cash on me. Edit: I need a new GFX card too. Seriously. Turns out that the one that I HAVE in this computer is built-INTO the computer's motherboard. |

Hmm... 9 minutes 'till download.
I've got a 3D RAGE PRO AGP 2X on here. Regarding Wages: Where would a 14 year old be living? You tell me. I got this computer for my birthday, 2 years ago. Edit: I have no idea what I'm looking for. https://support.ati.com/ics/support/...ge&folderID=27 |
How exactly are you planning on turning off Direct 3D lights, when in OpenGL Mode? <_<

I would say it's https://support.ati.com/ics/support/...uestionID=1301
It might be possible to get better cards for free though, even my 6 year old Riva TNT (from NVidia) is better, also it should be possible to get Geforce2 or similar for a low price, but I don't know if you have contacts or so. |
128ram is quite horrible my friend. If you cannot afford much you should probobly check ebay or do some good researching for some good ram. Also I noticed in the bottom right corner of your screen you have various programs running. I would advise you to end some of those programs to decrease the amount of cpu useage. Im sure you could get a better gfx card AND 128extra Ram for atleast 50 dollars. Which is about as much as a video game. Zz I also used to play on a 333mhz computer alittle Ram will take you far. (Graal really doesnt need a good graphics card of any sort)
P.S. I have a Nvidia 5200 FX 128mb graphics card that plays Half Life 2 and I got it for 32 dollars. Expensive? I think not. |

Stefan: I know some one who has Windows XP on a Pentium II, and it runs fine. |

Speaking of gfx, what's the best color quality for Graal v4? 16-bit and 32-bit seems to be both having problems. My driver version is 6.14.10.6693 Is there a newer one? Nvidia's download page is horrible with older drivers. |
Ditto Skyld.

Well, says "this session is now expired" on that link. |

The 5 at the beginning of the driver version might be the windows version (5 for Windows2000/XP) |
"Could Not Be Authorized"
... hmm, I think it'd be best if you just said something like in direction form: Example: Go to ATI.com>Go to Support in gray menu> click on Windows 2000 driver in middle menu... etc. Anyway, I've upgraded my driver [by accident] to a PRO AGP TURBO 2X, but something tells me there's a more recent upgrade to it, so let's just see. |

... Click on Drivers & Software, and search for: W2K-J5-30-1-B02.EXE -or- Drivers & Software (Windows 2000 Drivers and Software) RAGE RAGE PRO (more...) -then- Windows 2000 Display Driver version 5.0.2195.5013 W2K-J5-30-1-B02.EXE |
Oh, sweet. Now every time I launch Graal4 something worse happens. It flashes an Error message with blue background, so fast I can't read it, then it goes to the Compaq loading window. Looked like a memory dump, I checked the system memory usage history and saw it rise more than usual before shutting down.
!pissed! !pissed! !pissed! !pissed! !pissed! Good thing it didn't fry!!! Hmm... although, the Graalonline animated banner seems to be playing less choppy. :whatever: |
Sounds like Reboot on Error is enabled. If it is the same on 2000 as XP then do this:
Control Panel > System Click the Advanced tab Click the settings button in the "Startup and Recovery" category Uncheck "Automatically Restart" |
Is that safe?
|
Thats weird...I could play Graal with my old Computer, too, and this one only had 233 mhz and an 12 mb grafics card lol o.o.

Solution: get a better job.
Any job that yields $2.00 a week isn't worth it. D: |
