Now I know this is rich coming for me the noobie guy. Maybe reather petty too, perhaps no at all what you are looking for, but it was the fisrt thing that stuck out to me (Attatchement thing).

Would in not make sence to go 'red to red' as you have done on 'blue to blue'?

I'm with Gerami on the grass on grass thing. Some parts look good but in other parts it just seems to stop dead.

I like the over all look though.

Please don't hate me for posting this heh.

I like the idea of the overgrowth of grass like that. Very unique, never seen it done before.

As for the pole wrap tile thingies, very minor thing a player wouldn't notice unless they were carefully scrutinizing everything about the level. Not that big of a deal.

xAndrewx 12-08-2004 09:31 AM

nice clfis D:

syltburk 12-08-2004 11:02 AM

thx mates

anyway the grass thing is pretty much for not overtiling the level, my personal feeling about levels is not spamming it with tiles.. Beacuse then it will just look like a big mess.. I could fix some places here and there :)

I think I’d disagree with parts of that. Although, yes it is a small thing and doesn't really matter, for me at least, my eye went straight to the house because it is almost the focal point if the level, stands out from just the vegetation etc. Also the NPC you look at, and well, I just think continuity make a map look better.

Although, I don’t want to fall out over it, just my opinion. Although, having said that, I am new to the whole level making thing.

Its no big deal really, you can change that in 1 second.. Its not like because of that the player is gonna go "OMG THIS LEVELS SUX PLEASE"..

xAndrewx 12-08-2004 09:52 PM

tbh that clifing is supreme, did u do it?

Not a bad level at all, I found a few things you should take a look at however.

Red - Tile Error
Blue - I don't like something in blue :(
Green - I'm unsure if it is an error on your behalf or the tileset.

I kinda like how you are getting comfortable with unique grass styling and such, but like, I don't like those two grass-things circled in blue. :frown:

The cliffs are either mising shadows, or you are using the bottoms of the cliffs that have shadows on them. There are "shadowless" cliff bottoms. :p

Oh, and on the top its kinda bare. Other than that its a fairly well put together level.

(I missed a few errors, but I hope you find them. :frown: )

Cluttered, horrible cliffs, no sense of perspective.

Forgot about this post for some reason.

Anyway, editing the tileset for one level? IF there is an error with the cliffs, fixing it would be for all levels, would it not?

xAndrewx 12-10-2004 09:01 PM

jaffer dosnt do maps, just random levels.. lol

oinknessx 12-11-2004 01:48 AM

It looks like something I made a year ago.

Wan is still around? Haven't talked to him in awhile. I like Wan but he just "*****s" his levels around from server to server.

xAndrewx 12-11-2004 10:48 AM

true, hes calmed down now.. its only like 2 servers now.. 1 with spark and 1 on his own :) ill get himto him you later if I remember..

jafer, on't give up u have some potential!

Crono 12-11-2004 12:07 PM

jaffer wtf stop acting like you suck, you're better than me -.-

Blitz_Hunter 12-11-2004 08:30 PM

Seems like your detail is just going in a diagonal line down the level between the house and first set of cliffs. :redface:

CaTigus 12-30-2004 09:08 PM

* House needs a door.
* Where are the cliffs in the lower right hand corner going?
* Old man, Uneccesary.
* Better shadows.

npc content is actually good because the level has something other than tiles. :D

Shaun 01-05-2005 06:45 PM

I'll try to be kind:

-Cliffs are not done properly.
-Shadows don't connect properly.
-What happened to the path to the house? It's there, then it isn't, then it is, then it isn't. Have a path or don't, but don't try to compromise both choices.
-Why are there random green path tiles everywhere? That, and random fence posts everywhere, are all of a sudden common. Was there a farm years ago with fenceposts and garden paths? Was it built of steel to survive the tectonic plate movements that changed the landscape to a mountainous terrain?
-Random outdoor chair. Could have put something else there to justify having a chair there. Flower bed? Garden? Table?
-Second floor of house connects weird to first floor at the sides. As levels makers, we've all felt tempted to use those tiles to try to be creative, but there is no adequate bottom as a tile for those. Perhaps try using other tiles or an npc bottom (I believe one exists for the door frame like that).

EDIT:

I like your grass over the grass parts. It seems somewhat realistic and shows creativity. I haven't seen anybody try that before, and I've gone through plenty of player levels in my time.

This level forum will never change. You'd think there would be a different level style by now.

Alexander 01-07-2005 10:18 AM

Cortez still reads the forums xD
