Macintosh RC?

Is this even in the works? I am currently saving up for a powerbook and I have been told there is no RemoteControl client for it. Does anybody want to group together and make it? I have a few Mac programmer friends whom I will ask about helping. If interested get me on AIM (In profile) or email me (In sig) for forum pm me (C'mon now.)

I...think there is one. It's just not in the setup.exe - i think?

If there isn't one currently, I think there used to be for previous graal versions...

zell12 09-21-2004 02:47 AM

I think I recall Stefan saying he was making one for mac?

ThinkDifferent 09-21-2004 03:07 AM

He better :P

It would be possible to make the Linux version compile on Mac, using Darwin or XWindows extension although it's not a very simple thing to setup. So the only way is to use the scripted RC of the new scripting engine, which will hopefully be released in a few weeks.

Update:
I have checked it once more. It is possible to compile it on Mac and bundle the gtk2 (gui) libraries with the RC package, so all you need is to install X11 or XDarwin to run it. This will take some weeks though since it is some work and we are currently trying to finish Graal3D.

Hell yes ;) Sounds like a good reason to buy a Mac.
Except we would need Stefan's top secret knowledge of the arcana that is required to make it interact with the Graal server, which is not going to happen.

ThinkDifferent 09-22-2004 03:53 AM

Loriel nice to see your post :) I am sure if we got a knowledgable and respectable team (And brought baseball bats to Stefan's house) that we could get everything we needed. I will talk to you on AIM

I'm sure candy would do the same thing.

A smile only gets you so far, Joker.

You're not going to get anything, Stefan already said to wait anyways.

ThinkDifferent 09-23-2004 02:50 AM

Are you just trolling me around waiting for me to post so you can post your negativity right behind it?

The old RC it was able to do things with it, as it was just compressed. The new protocol is compressed and encrypted, which no one other than Stefan knows exactly how it's done. I've heard it was modified from an existing encryption, but I do not know for sure. Just wait for Stefan to do it >.<

The new Linux RC has been released, go to the download page to download it. For customizing the look edit ~/.graal/rc/controlconfig.txt.

VeX_RaT_Boy 09-24-2004 11:16 PM

YAY LINUX RC!!

I would like to suggest that the directory to load images from as well as the directory to save PMs to be as customisable as the directory to download files to, even if the first suggestion's implementation might require the user to restart. Though a button for on the fly skin updates would be cool++ as well.

I like it, although I dislike the huge fonts. Maybe you could include something for setting the font/size etc.

ThinkDifferent 09-25-2004 01:35 AM

Loriel / Anybody can that be emulated or whatever for Macs?

nullify 09-25-2004 02:27 AM

I should think so, it's a binary, so it should run on any UNIX box with the needed deps.

Admins 09-25-2004 02:36 AM

Running x86 Linux binaries on Mac is not so simple, its different CPU, although there are commercial tools for that.
Loriel: in the controlconfig.txt you can specifiy absolut paths for the images

YAYA! Stefan! Thanks for making it man, now I can use my Mandrake Linux machine to play graal and RC now without having to dual boot anymore. Thank god. Time to spark up that cigar now. Tis a good change, yes.

I can only see options for the icons in the graphical menu which I do not use anyway.
Does this work for all images?

I just added this to my ~ directory as "rc" and chmodded it of course.
NPC Code:
#!/bin/sh
cd ~/rc;rc|cd ~&

It seems to work fine.

That looks pretty freaky.

NPC Code:
cd ~/games/graal/rc
exec ./rc

It may look freaky but it works. I just launch it from my Openbox menu most of the time anyhow, I just drop the "&" off of the command. :)

I bound it to [Windowskey] + [L].

nullify 09-26-2004 12:33 AM

I should start binding more stuff, I'm far too lzay to do that though.

Or, you know, you could take the time to write out e=mc˛.

Projectshifter 09-28-2004 09:29 PM

lol, I won't point out that I've had linux RC for months :P Although he did add some nice features as of late. Also, the font could also do with what windows environment you're running. It's not too bad under my KDE but under Gnome it's bloody crazy >.< And I normally just do ./rc& but I also wrote a small shell script so I can do an icon. I just switched to wmaker last night and I like it, so I might start using it more often. Not sure how it is handling the fonts, but it is quite nice. Just once I get him to compile 3.1/3D for linux for me we'll be all set ;) It's such a hassle playing on v3.0 with linux, it's got some bugs to it that make it rather annoying. Also I don't think my windows install even works anymore, I haven't had it up in months. Perhaps I'll snag vmware, but I do not plan on really having to be limited to windows anytime soon...

nullify 09-29-2004 04:42 AM

PS, for your font issues you need a GTK (2) theme setter (or config file). I use gtk-theme-switch. The build generates the switch2 binary and that can be used to set your theme and font under all window managers.

And just as a note about 3.0, it's horrid on Linux for me.

Loriel 09-29-2004 11:28 PM

I use gtk-chtheme. It is a little more comfortable in that it shows the newly selected theme in the selection window itself, with more different widgets as well. Also, it seems not to display as many themes that are not actually gtk themes.
