What does everyone use?

I'd like to know what people use to make GFX.

Personally, MS Paint and Adobe Photoshop 7 owns. Of course, Jasc Paintshop programs are good for transparent things in 3 seconds. Plus, Adobe Photoshop 8/CS sucks!

So what does everyone use?

haunter 05-02-2004 11:07 PM

Photoshop CS...

Works fine for me.

Chaos0838 05-02-2004 11:07 PM

MS Paint, nothing more

Malinko 05-02-2004 11:10 PM

CS sucks horribly. It's just bleh. 7 is so much better. Paint for outiling and everything else for shading.

haunter 05-03-2004 12:24 AM

I have to use 7 at school... I don't notice much difference... The only real thing I've noticed between 7 and CS that's annoying, is that CS doesn't allow you to edit any sort of image of money. :\

Scott 05-03-2004 12:25 AM

MSPaint, and Adobe Photoshop 7.0.
I use Gimp at school though.

MrCharles 05-03-2004 12:49 AM

paint and i have psp7 but i dont use it much

Gabnid 05-03-2004 01:06 AM

..and all this time, I've been drawing on my monitor's screen with a Sharpie.. I'm such a goon.

davidpsy 05-03-2004 01:07 AM

There is nothing wrong with using psp7, I use it alot better now (Ive learned its not how many colors you use but how you use them so I use some techniques from pixelation) and if you would like examples...

Skyerus 05-03-2004 01:59 AM

Adobe Photoshop 7 and Paint Shop Pro 7. ^^

billybob256 05-03-2004 02:40 AM

Fireworks MX!

I do so many things in flash so i am used to the layout of Fireworks and i like the gui and the way that all the options for image editing is laid out.

protagonist 05-03-2004 03:34 AM

GIMP.

Fricking stupid limit grr.

teshy2 05-03-2004 05:51 AM

PhotoImpact 7. In my oppinion the best graphical software out there. I've give photoshop and paint shop pro several chances but the low quality soon made me go back to Impact.

Galdor 05-03-2004 06:06 AM

I use PhotoImpact 8. Much, much better then Tesh's PhotoImpact 7 xP
When I finaly get my wacom tablet so will I probobly use photoshop a bit more then Photoimpact.

TonyRivers 05-03-2004 06:43 AM

Psp7 and mspaint

WanDaMan 05-03-2004 09:14 AM

Well I normally use ms paint, untill around a week ago I started testing/experimenting with adobe. But I like paint much better, malinko told me somet cool on there :D

VeX_RaT_Boy 05-03-2004 09:28 AM

Mspaint and Fireworks.

Mr-Cool 05-03-2004 03:21 PM

And dude, haro, while it does have basically the same thing, it's buried under craploads of fancy tools and layers and wossnames and weird stuff that i don't care to understand o_o

Yup, on fireworks you have to click about 3 buttons just to get a straight line that isn't textured or really thick -.-, which is why most people use paint.

Ya, it's cool but it looks lame
I'm a bit mad ( :pissed: ) I used to make tileets in paint, only took 30 mins o.o, not even that 20 at the most ^^

edit the pissed smiley dosn't work :O

also made this GUI aswell in photoshop :D (earlier today)

Mr-Cool 05-03-2004 06:46 PM

i think the biggest improvement with psp is the ability to work in layers.

It took you 30 mins to add some noise effect and change the colors a bit? o_O

Not really...
I had to do the graphics in paint then convert them into photoshop using layers :p
and read my other post, 20 minutes xD i'm also new at photoshop so don't make it harder than it is..

XxDarkrazorxX 05-03-2004 07:25 PM

Ms Paint, it rox...

haunter 05-03-2004 07:28 PM

Yeah, Layers are the big plus for me with Photoshop... But using translucency on a layer for pixel art = a no-no.

You can use Photoshop alot faster than MSPaint I find... Once you get used to the hotkeys that is.

Mr-Cool 05-03-2004 08:21 PM

i use layer translucency in pixel art. you can change the shading hue and depth on the fly with a little slider. its awsome

i understand the need to minimize colors if your making sprites for cell phone games and gba games. but this is PC games we're talking about. Id rather have my file be 1k bigger to keep the quality you would use by cutting down the colors. too much dithering makes it look crappy

--Chris-- 05-03-2004 09:05 PM

MS Paint only

ZER0_H0UR 05-03-2004 10:06 PM

MS Paint for image-makin' and photoshop 7 for file conversion and transparency

Scott 05-03-2004 11:12 PM

I find MS Paint is just all around more user friendly. You can access stuff mouch more quickly, and it doesn't have brushes for el' lazy people. :] If MS Paint had layers, it would be ultimate.

TonyRivers 05-04-2004 12:20 AM

I don't even understand psp7 im a little slow when it comes to programs but I like mspaint for outlines and shapes because I can get a crisp thin line. But I do eventualy want to learn about the layers and stuff. Also im looking for a program like that online pixel board alrid posted. That would be great for drawing concept art because the lines were really thin and when they go diagonal they don't add pixelage..

Also, if MS Paint could handle transparency and the newest file types (maybe even plugins?) it would be the ULTIMATE graphics program (:
