Warning!

If you recieve email from Spark with the attachment "osiqfw.zip", or anything like that, DO NOT OPEN IT!

It is the mydoom.A virus. I don't know if it is Spark that has it or some dope is sending it with a spoofed email address. Inside the zip is a .doc file that is opened as an EXE. Again, do NOT open this file.

In ZIP format, this virus is ~ 22-23 kB.

Blitz_Hunter 02-05-2004 11:28 PM

Oh, cool! ;)

superb 02-05-2004 11:48 PM

adam 02-05-2004 11:49 PM

Hopefully not something intelligent.

Spark910 02-06-2004 12:01 AM

+_+
So much for anti-virus. I guess it stops it but still lets it send it on.
Anyway I dont send file attachments. If you have already opened it then run anti-virus if you dont have one here is a good free one:

I'm lucky, I aint got one :)

Some informations about MyDoom.A (and apply also to MyDoom.B) :

- The virus is transmitted by mail. The subject and the content of the mail is random.
- There is always an attached file of type : .pif .cmd .exe .zip .bat etc... (any dangerous attachement)
- When you open the virus, you'll see a notepad document with random binary characters

When you run the virus, it will open all text, html, etc.. files on your computer (Internet Explorer cache too) and try to send himself to all email addresses found. The "from" and "to" fields are random. If Spark have his email address on many webpages he will have more chances to be in one of the two fields.

I personally got more than 100 copies of MyDoom.A during the first hour of infection. I had to block all mails with .zip, .exe, etc.. files in order to protect me.

It has been reported by some companies that their mail server (managing only one domain name) were getting more than 3000 emails per minute.

Incorrect.

Especiallly don't open them from people you do know.

Becouse they often send out through your address book to all your friends.

Spark910 02-06-2004 05:33 PM

I just dont use address book, its easier.

WanDaMan 02-06-2004 05:38 PM

They can send anything as attachments.

Well sending a .txt document would be pointless to spread a virus. And sending .nw/.graal also pointless because not as many would open it.

.nw/.graal is a non executable, Wouldnt do any damage. But remeber MyDoom will try to trick with like

document.txt .exe

and Outlookpress wont show it all (It will when you click on it)

R0bin 02-07-2004 02:16 AM

It will show it all if you have the folder option "Hide extentions for known file types" Disabled.

Uhh yea right , I was being sarcastic by that statement. Just making a statement that I have good protection on my comp so it is unlikely ( not impossible mind you ) that I would get a virus.

ZeLpH_MyStiK 02-07-2004 02:37 AM

hehe havent got one mydoom email...DONT EVEN THING ABOUT IT ;p

Alex Stravier 02-07-2004 05:50 AM

Speaking of viruses and stuff, I managed to pick up a "Microsoft Internet Explorer has experienced a problem and needs to close" type virus (probably because my dad was romping around for Janet Jackson stuff after the superbowl, retard) and now I'm using Avant Browser. Uh, anyone know anything of this?

Winamp5 can use WA2 stuff. I believe there is/was a plugin that allowed you to do that in winamp :)

Lyndzey 02-11-2004 11:51 PM

For anyone who has contacted me at [email protected], you might get an email saying "hi" from me. This is one of those email worm things that I haven't gotten rid of yet. Do not download the attachment because it is an email worm and it will continue to spread using your email.
