New Graal Version Released (2.21)

A new Graal version has been released. Use the setup.exe from the graalonline.com website to download it.

It is causing less network traffic and is less laggy. There are also a few other improvements. It is recommended to install this new version soon, it is really helping for reducing the lag.

v3.0 will be updated later this week, will try to fix problems with Graal2001.

In the past few months there were not a lot of updates because we are working on a revolutionary new Graal. v2.21 should help with filling the time until that is released.

What problems? o_O

-Ramirez- 11-04-2003 11:12 AM

2.21 has changed the way it retrieves the server list. What port and protocol does it now use to retrieve the list? My firewall doesn't like it. :P

Oh, and is there a possible release date for 3.1? Even if it's inaccurate, at least it's something. :(

EDIT: Nevermind about the port thing, I found it, finally. For anyone else who may need to know... it connects to listserver.graalonline.com (207.44.156.91) via TCP port 14922.

EDIT2: OMFG, it ALSO connects to the GServer via TCP port 14900 when you log onto a server.

EDIT3: I can't connect to Classic Dev with 2.21... even with my firewall completely disabled. Any ideas? I can connect to other servers that have an NPC Server though...

Problems with the freezeplayer and disabledefmovement commands, among other things.

zell12 11-04-2003 03:13 PM

And it also uses the old sword sprite to use the sword, even though graa2001 uses a gani.

Why can't you fix the first Graals before hopping into
another one that is going to have a lot of problems also?
That way you would atleast make a few people happy. :\

osrs 11-04-2003 07:29 PM

Good, i'll download it now.

davidpsy 11-04-2003 08:17 PM

Umm stefan I'm having many problems with the graal 3.01 first I cannot put in my password it just will not let me. Second when I am in the training part the graphic's look really bad. When I use the d3d thing everything looks fine and works only its very laggy. How do I turn off direct x lights in graal 3.0? Can you make it so the open gl thing works as good as the d3d thing? Can you also put an option for those that dislike the new mouse thing?

Nm about the password thing its working now.

VeX_RaT_Boy 11-04-2003 08:17 PM

Nice, I think the actionclientside will come handy :)

Also, I hope the playerlist and stuff will be fixed in the new V3..

Thats an effect of the freezeplayer problem.

Stefan can you also fix these things? Please.

I think he has a slight idea of what things need fixing, the client is most likely already coded and just needs some slight touching up.

Not 100% sure, but I think specifying a different "Temp" directory should do it.

Open the setup.exe, click on the -RemoteControl line to change it to 'Reinstall' or 'Skip'

There we go, i tried what Stefan said to do first, it didn't work so i tried what you said and it gets stuck on this.

Specify an explicit path, e.g.:

C:\graaltemp\

You mean make a folder called graaltemp and put it in C and use that as my different temp folder?

In the "specify 'temp' directory" box, specify that directory. A smilie ate my text, so I had just edited it to disable smilies, only to find you'd just replied, heh. I don't believe the directory needs to exist beforehand, but you could create it there just to be safe, if you want.

There we go! it's working.
Thank you :D
Edit: i opened graal and it said it's version is Graal 2.2 + 3.0
Is that the new one? cause it looks the same, i was just wondering.

If I'm correct, the 2.2 + 3.0 are the versions the server you're connecting to accepts.

Also, which exectuable did you open? Graal.exe is the old 2.2 version, while Graal3.exe is the Graal v3.* version.

Admins 11-06-2003 06:09 AM

To see the exact version right-click on Graal.exe, select Properties, Version.
Good that it works now :-)

KyleOdin 11-07-2003 06:05 AM

I am glad that you were able to fix the graphic upload problem with the newest version of graal in a very timely manner. :D

That means that people can see my graphics again and not a "censored blob" like they used to look like with the problem. ;-)

Keep up the good work I and I hope to see more releases and updates in the new future.

Take care and remember pixels have fellings too.

Shrink your sig man.

zokemon 11-07-2003 07:54 AM

wub teh stefan for 2.21

yay this new version has 3 GREAT features which help out in PWs and scripting a whole bunch:

Quote:

- when a tiles-image has been downloaded
all tiles using that image are redrawn,
so preventing messed up screens when
entering a room with new tiles
This can help PWs a bunch especialy Gileada with our wonderful overworld tileset :D
Quote:

- when weapon scripts do 'showani' then the
used ganis can do gani-scripting too
(e.g. for displaying nice effects on
status bar)
Very helpful for what was just listed above like it says and other use ful things
Quote:

- server-side scripts can do
'triggeraction 0,0,clientside,weapon,params'
to directly trigger the client-side part of
weapon of the player - catch it with
'if (actionclientside) actions;
This is what got me happy :D cause now we dont have to do anymore of that save[0] stuff and all that just to go back to client side

KyleOdin 11-07-2003 10:22 AM

That was my old sig since I could not remember where my updated EoA sig was located. After some searching around on my webserver, I found it once again and I have updated my profile accordingly. Sorry if my old sig bothered some of you. :(

Take Care & Pixels Beware!

When i open the download....it works but it doesnt really download.....it stays on 1% for like 20min and dont go anywhere o_o

ForgottenLegacy 11-09-2003 07:48 AM

Oh, and somthing that is very helpful, make sure that you have no read-only files, the install will freeze on those... x.x

ignorantfella 11-09-2003 09:22 AM

i am unsure if this was said but

can you please make the playerlist moveable off of the graal screen like it use to be O.o

This topic is about 2.21, not 3.0.

GoZelda 11-12-2003 12:13 AM

AND HOW CAN U BE SURE HE DIDN'T MENT 2? I can move the list with both versions. Anyway, make version 3 the same layout etc. as 2, people only play for less lag because of openGL

Kaimetsu 11-12-2003 05:07 AM

Using OpenGL won't affect lag.

Everyone says :(
Doesn't it handle images better than DirectX?

Kaimetsu 11-12-2003 06:24 PM

It's not merely a case of OpenGL being faster/better/whatever. Both have strengths, and if they were used in two equally well-programmed engines, you'd have difficulty seeing a difference.

Anyway, graphical output isn't at all related to internet latency (the common definition for the word 'lag' in the context of online games).

NovaNET 11-17-2003 06:03 PM

Unfortunately, The graal dev team constantly hops from project to project not that i can really speak on that subject as i do aswell. But atleast they are productive and more futuristicly speaking when all the young players of graal hit their adult hood they can have a whole bunch of different graal games to play...

hopefully thats a good way of looking at it although i know everyone just wants unixmad and stefan to stick to their word.

keep up the good work stefan and unixmad
