My beef with Graal: Kingdoms.

Well after coming back I have firmly grasped that Graal: Kingdoms has yet to change. After 3 months of being gone you'd think there be some lasting conent for players, the only lasting content is the all immense hack and slash leveling. (Cast and dash if you are a spellcaster) Sure there are events, but events only last awhile, trivia is boring. Of course theres been some nice Roleplay events, but after the event is over everybody doesn't continue roleplaying, they go back to leveling, scamming, trying to buy the best items and so on and so forth. Whats the point in leveling if theres nothing to level for? Sure theres that addition 2 HP (WOW!) or addtional mana or damage/wc. There needs to be something that makes players want to stay and want to roleplay and do all that without the need of "Event Masters."
From the farmworks it says there will be Capturable Islands, great that will bring some lasting gameplay to Graal but they need to have something to make it worth the fight. Of course that gives kingdoms something to do untill the decide to setup a world alliance or neturality to insure all Islands stay under the same rule.
Personally Roleplaying needs to be mandatory. Of course the start island doesn't help people learn how to roleplay because it tells you what everybody is after, items, levels, mutliclassing, etc etc. I mean I'd roleplay but when theres a "BUYING R$&*! EVENT ITEM FOR $(!*& DIAMONDS OR ($!* TRADE it doesn't help, nor does it when people go U R MY HO! and randomly playerkill you. Also one more thing since putting brackets around text is both hard and sometimes forgetable just make a command like "OOC:" then every text after that would be inside (( )) brackets.

Lets move onto kingdoms for a momento. Yes kingdoms are more or less a tag with a island. There is nothing speical for kingdoms, nothing to say "I want to be in this kingdom" aside from being with your friends. (which is suitable but what if you are new and have no friends at all?)
Kingdoms need a speical bonuses via stat was, skill wise or what not. The supposed soon capturable islands as stated above will bring conflict, but how much conflict? As I see it, if you are in a kingdom, you are in a battle mode, no matter what. Now sure this leaves our newer guys vunerable but how about making each kingdom have their own little Training Area (to atleast get them to level 10-15)
Now for roleplaying. Roleplaying is nonexistant outside of events. There needs to be something and influences and makes people want to roleplay, roleplaying is fun but only if everybody does it. Sure you are capable about talking sell or trading about your new skill, magic, weapon but when people attack you for no reason or just talk about things outside of the game. Its just doesn't work. As I see it, its monkey see monkey do, If you get a good amount of people roleplaying the rest follow. (sorta like how the evil internet slang came about) Of course you come across the whole Which came first paradox, the chicken or the egg.

Anyways I'm going to dump this thread over the the masses and allow you all to state your mind, I'm not bashing anything, just stating how things are. You might also ask why don't you suggest new content and etc. My reply is, I have in about 10 different threads.

It seems to me that Stefan is focusing on the new graal versions rather than new content to keep players going. This is one of the reasons i quit kingdoms x.x

took a while to read, but.. I agree I guess :)

Heiwaronsha 07-27-2003 04:49 AM

I'm not going to read it, because I'm sure you're right.

I'm leaving, and I'll come back when there is content. I restarted my character before I left to stop myself from coming back (I have a habit of doing that). I probably should have restarted my items, too, but I just dropped them in front of my friend so he could have them. He'll probably make good use of them anyway.

Yes, I did just get an EM job, but it's not worth it. All I've pretty much gotten is "You suck" and what not. No one on Kingdoms shows much any respect at all, and I've gotten tired of it after all of this time.

So, maybe I'll come back once Stefan or somebody starts to make Graal Kingdoms into a real game, not one that focuses on level and amount of platinum coins.

Bye.

:O Ghost though you want RPing and i hate your guts and i kidna agree with you, you didnt help much eitrher being an ******* and all x_x and this *******ism did happen a while ago so im not tryin to bring things back up but im just saying you didn't help at all. and of course you wouldn't want to hear ppl wanting event items seeing as how you have alot of them  but more to the point, GK would honestly beed less popular, tho i wouldnt care, if it was more rp and less demi-god competition, the only way to make it worth it, is to REMOVE everone from kindoms all of them, pick new kings/governors, only recruit to any kingdom if they RP well an dkeep EVents and crap within kindoms, that way they are obliged to rp if they want to continue to play how they do.

Amoun 07-27-2003 06:55 PM

I don't really part-take in any of these except trying to get event items for myself, because i want t hem cuz i like how they look and to be powerful enough to do maps easily to get diamonds to prep it and then get things for money to get house furniture, i for one, myself, play this game for fun, i reset often and i really havnt ever gotten to lvl 15 or gone higher, and i RP now and then but none else bothers to RP so sometimes i just go off on my own. But i think my suggestion is good, do a clean whipe of kingdoms, make everyone the same, make them have to rp to join a kingdom, and rp well and rp while int he kingdom and while on tag. Hold events only in kingdoms so that theyll be obliged not to remain kindomless if they want to continue their stupid demi-god race.

Maybe it could be as simple as a /roleplaying on/off command.

You're going to turn out as a Sliq, I gaurentee it, "quitting" every so weeks just to get attention. Armadeus was asking for 25 people to get to ask you to come back, and you'd only come back if 25 asked you to, which I think is completely stupid. Also, to the point and topic of this thread, I think Ghost Pirate is completely right with everything he said, and if things could be this drasticly changed, it'd be so much better, but I understand why it won't be, there are a variety of people play there, and not everyone feels the way Ghost Pirate and myself do...unfortunately.

Removing and readding doesn't help solve the problems that people are free to not roleplay and nothing around them helps the fact to roleplay (Events like trivia, gokarts, soccor, icehocky, 40 chest blockout or whatever else there is)
The Start island is a joke, it teaches you how to multiclass and do jobs, doesn't show jack on how to roleplay which is what people need to know when playing Kingdoms. It also tells NOTHING about the kingdoms themself (what kind of game doesn't even tell you about the main part of the game?)

Personally I wouldn't mind having everybody being removed from the kingdoms. I can't stand some of the people who have some how wanderered their way into Pirates. =/

Geno 07-28-2003 01:26 PM

idea.
if graal kingdoms is to encourage roll playing.
on starter island why not add in a last task that walks you trhough and explans the simple rules of role playing, that would be nice.

Geno 07-28-2003 01:29 PM

i'm going to go with ghost on saying that starter island is a joke.
if graal kingdoms is to encourage roll playing,
on starter island why not add in a last task that walks you through roleplaying and explans the simple rules of role playing, such as what IC and OCC is and some basic tearms like the (()) rule and do's and don'ts and all that great stuff, and if that is asking too much.
then on the main map install a role playing school that does all this for the members that are WANT to role play. so it is still optional, and then before you join a kingdom the kings would make sure you took the role playing class then you just kinda pick the rest up as you go on.

Amoun 07-28-2003 05:37 PM

ya i agree with ghost for once too :O
i once played 2k2 back in the day for about 2 days then quit and went to classic, i remember how the newbie island use to be full of rpers before there was any uber crap or event items they all had the same basic craftable things and only a few people bothered to pk or act stupid, the rest role played and stuff and it was nice, but i quit because back then i didn't really understand the game except how to roleplayer so i didn't bother with it and left.

Wow, are you serious? You are the total opposite of Ghost, Thallen. All you do all day is scam people, call people arrogant and stupid, and everyone knows it. I can't believe you even typed that :O

Satrek2000 07-28-2003 08:20 PM

I knew the basics of roleplaying before I started playing here, but I didn't learn about the (())-rule before I joined my kingdom. A RP-starting task would be a good idea, maybe one ending with the player being scammed by an NPC, just to sharpen their senses... well... my 2 cent.

Zach1 07-28-2003 08:49 PM

There needs to be a way to police non-rpers. The kingdoms SHOULD be doing this, but they dont. and what's left in the middle are unaffiliated "omgusuckdoyouhaverot" *****s.

Ziro_Vitrudestec 07-29-2003 12:29 AM

I have a few things to say too...

I'm glad to see that someone who people actually listen to is finally speaking out about the problems of Graal Kingdoms.

About RPing...
The main island needs to be put into RPing somehow. It should be an island in which everyone fights for control of. This will determine who the strongest kingdom at the time is.

People seem to speak of how RPing is only for events. If this is true, they should get off their IC names and stop using their kingdom tags all the time, while talking OOC. RPing should be done most of the time anyways; not just for events.

Ghost Pirate, were you not one of the most powerfull fighters in the game before you left GK? I don't know where you stand now, but I'm sure you can get back in the game again. When you do, having a real Ghost Pirate RP character would be cool. It's just a suggestion, but it would be nice to add more color to the RPing like having fish people (going to check on that thread in a few...). I can imagine it quit well...having people speak of the mysterious and evil "ghost pirate" who sails the seas and attacks with no mercy. Also, I never considered it, but I supposed Pirates could very well PK while IC, however, for reason. It would be pointless to PK characters who are weak and poor (if there are any in battlemode. I used to be one, getting PKed). It would make more sense to go after the others to take their money and such. But then again, this would only work well if RPing was a whole lot better.

Kingdoms need to work together to filter out characters with bad names. Many people like to use names from TV shows, cartoons, anime, movies, video games, etc., and the kingdom leaders cannot ALWAYS know if a name is taken from there. This is why members of the kingdom, if not any RPer, should point out when they notice someone who does not have their own character name. Each player should have only one nickname he/she can use on kingdom tag also. Kind of like how the guild control panel works.

Other things...
Alchemy items need to be fixed up for balancing (allow creation of them again). The last action taken against them only made things unbalanced.

MKSLAYER 07-29-2003 12:30 AM

just for the record im very strict about RP'ing (just ask the people that are complaining about me >_>)

I was 3rd strongest character
Shrimp was first
DragonX was second
I was third

Well on 2k1 I went with the whole Ghost Pirate RP Character, however you'll find out what happens to the crew and Ghost Pirate during future Crescent (Pirate) Island Updates.
