Hackers

Jellyfish and his buddies somehow got one of a SL's account and tried to get onto rc. The account is LegendOfGeovanie and they used trainers to get the account banned on a few servers.

It's not somehow. They even admit the account was gained through the use of a trainer.
The moral of the story? That's what happens when you download a trainer.

Then why would you post it here? That is like....a waste of a thread? No one really cares lol, is it to make him look like a *****? o.O

Kaimetsu 06-23-2003 05:43 AM

The account should be disabled anyway, it's in violation of the sharing rules.

zell12 06-23-2003 05:44 AM

Hey, if you kids were adding ip ranges and only giving level 4 rights to ONE MANAGER this wouldn't happen.

The guy that hacked the account didn't get on RC.. he was trying to tell staff to let him on. I know for a fact that SL's staff keep all the RC IP ranges set. Tackler was just letting people know that the account was hacked thats why it was banned on soooo many servers.

edit: and matrix with level 4 RC? hahaha he only wishes

Us "kids" stopped the person from getting on RC, and disabled the account. Adding the IP range is what kept him off RC.

Read the actual post next time before responding.

zell12 06-23-2003 07:26 AM

I read this post not the one for SL because I am lazy. No one cares if the account was hacked, just tell Lyndzey.

Actually if the Playerworld managers would notify everyone of these sorts of happenings, other Managers would know the story and would be able to make an educated descision immediately.

Or at the very least, be informed of what's going on.

100% agreement. However I think the PWA should be doing this.

MarkB 06-23-2003 10:22 AM

Seriously...i think we should bring back inspections, like what was it, HR Admins or something?

Perhaps, but the PWA will have to acquire more than 3 members for that to work out right.

Stop confusing "cracking" with "hacking". Seriously.

Nitkizi 06-23-2003 02:36 PM

Matrix's ip range was set, so there was no chance they could get on, even with their magical "ip spoofers" . I was making this aware to any staff that sees that account online and such. And I am also aware of the fact that they tried to get a scripting job on Frolic, I don't know if successfully, but obvisously to get NC and wipe out all their npcs.

TifaKhan 06-23-2003 04:02 PM

That account was banned on Doomsday.

CheeToS2 06-23-2003 05:10 PM

sort of off-topic, but am I the only one who has a problem with the atlantis/doomsday ban messages?

Yes, then just continue insulting hackers, and look like a newbie using but mixing up terms from the hacker jargon.

Why don't "hackers" call themselves programmers if they don't want to be associated with people that damage computers?

zell12 06-23-2003 06:47 PM

Ip cloakers/morphers could of allowed this person to gain access onto RC.

because hackers are misconcieved as people that damage computers.

Angel 06-23-2003 07:07 PM

Why should hackers find another name just because some(many) people cannot tell the difference between them and crackers, or because many people are just ignorant about it?
Be aware that the original sense has been there before medias started to abuse the word.
Also, "programmer" does not equal "hacker". There is more of a "culture" and "philosophy" behind hackers, while programmers are merely people creating programs.

They don't have to change their "title", but they shouldn't expect everyone to abandon an easily remembered/easily understood term for absolutely no reason.

well put

Kaimetsu 06-24-2003 01:53 AM

It's annoying that the meaning of the term 'hacker' has been warped by the media, but it's not Joe Average's fault. The real hackers are expecting millions of people to change their lexicons, but that's inconsiderate. It would be simpler for the hackers to change their titles.

I could imagine that there was some kind of publically accessible proxy in the same IP class that's set in the RC, though.

What exactly do you expect from hackers then? Shall they just accept being blamed for every malicious internet being's faults?

I don't expect anything from "hackers". And as I said before, if they wish to escape popular reference then they should change their title rather than expect the greater majority to change it's phrasing. The latter will simply not happen.

It's a possibility but not a given. There are limits to what they can do with their downloaded toys.

It is his fault, he already looks like a *****. I would highly doubt there is any need to check anything.
